On the run.
A lot of thoughts have floated around in the Resident Evil 6/HCG Resident Evil collectible thread about the utter disgust of what was done with the last installment so I thought I would put this out there on what you think should be done with this sinking ship franchise.

I personally think to even gain back the fans trust is to do a nice dark REmake style game of Resident Evil 2 and or 3 as well. I think a reboot is a little late in the game and would undermine the material that everyone is so fond of.

REmake is still the greatest gaming remake to ever be made and if Capcom greased Shinji Mikami into returning it could be absolute greatness.

I would like a Outbreak 3, but I honestly think they will never revisit it and it's not realistic to hold out for it.

They have hinted at a REmake 2 for years now if they got the fans behind it, which they have been for over a decade -_-

The games have pretty much gone down hill after RE 4. The series really has to return back to its survival horror roots, for me to be interested in it again.

RE4 was a blast, but it was such a departure from tank controls/awkward camera angles that a lot of old school fans hated it. I do take issue with it but I don't think it took away from the experience. But at least it did have horror elements. From RE5 on it's action action action and more action :dunno

I honestly blame the films on infecting the franchise with the action genre.

From those choices, I picked Remakes.

But I'd like them to continue the story, but hire an actual writer or something. And map out the damn story for the next couple games. Stop making it up as you go along.

At this point, I fear a reboot would be best for them though.

I don't know if it necessarily needs remakes (though I would love it), but returning to the roots of the series in terms of the gameplay and tone would be a good thing IMO. I didn't play 6, but 4 and 5 essentially turned it into a fast-paced first person shooter, which wasn't what the series originally was of course. I'm assuming 6 continued that trend. Unfortunately, I don't think Capcom has the faith in videogame players to go back. Kids have short attention spans getting shorter all the time, and the original games weren't so good for that kind of audience.

Hate to say it reboot the series its is a mess start fresh go back to horror in some form remakes are great but it's not advancing the story.

I'm thinking the reboot option would be the only way to save face for them since it would be a clean slate and it would cater to newer gamers to the franchise.

Capcom does not care about the 90's fanbase, it's quite clear from the ORC garbage.

But how would a reboot work without starting at the mansion?

I'd rather be told the same story over again in a REmake form then see the convoluted nonsense they have defecated out in RE6.

Raccoon City never gets old. I don't know why there isn't a game a year based on it at this point. ORC was awful but it wasn't developed by Capcom, but that doesn't say much about Capcom even if they did at this point.

I put remakes of the originals but i'd rather them just leave it now.

If they did remakes of 2 & 3 though i'd be happy

Could go back to the mansion go back to playing as two characters no coop focus on story I picked reboot.

... I hate to say it... but a Reboot is about time.

Go back, and Start at RE0, and go from there.

and for the love of god, KEEP IT SURVIVAL HORROR.

If I Want an action game, I'll play left for dead, or dead rising.

Go back Before teh mansion, start at the events of RE 0, with the intent of making it the START of the series.

move from there to Resident Evil, at the Mansion. But to mix it up, Make the story evolve. First playthougth is VERY short. Player picks Jill, or chris ( Yes, Keep the same Characters) .

That story lasts a TOTAL of an hour, ending with their capture by an unknown entity.

Then playthrough with the other ( again, either Jill or chris) culminating in the eventual rescue of the captured party member, and full reveals....

then ANOTHER short playthrough with Barry, so we get his story.

And Fianly.... to keep the action fans happy, a more Actiony Story/ playthougth of different parts of the mansion and facility... As Wesker.

so it goes
Chapter 1 ( Chriss or jill) 1 hour
Chapter 2 ( Jill or Chris) 5-8 hours
Chapter 3 Barry 1-2 hours
Chapter 4 Wesker 5-8 hours

As long as they're not action based I'm all for it. Over the shoulder wouldn't work in those games. I mean they can branch out and make the story a big grander with keeping the same formula. Make the game longer by adding in multiple areas. Personally I would of liked to have to stay out in the streets longer before reached the RPD in RE2.

Well you're kinda asking for a Reboot Remake :lol

Sound like re6 all over again to many characters.

Yep true, that's what i liked about 3. The sewers in 2 could be lengthened and adding new sewers creatures with a puzzle.

I hate how games are so easy these days. I remember actually not being able to play games for days because i was stuck on one puzzle. It's just run around at kick something slide through it's legs and shoot it in the head these days. That's supposed to categorise 'survival horror'

I miss the suspense

The only glaring problems with RE2 and RE3 is the geography of Raccoon City is messed up since two different development teams made both games.

Like how there is a chemical plant right behind the RPD? :lol
I mean it's not but they shortened the sewers due to limitations and seems like you only traveled a block or so in the sewers before getting to the plant (where you need to control Ada or Sherry to move the boxes to get the Club Key was it?) But the chemical plant was supposed to be at the edge of the city according to Sherry.

Expanding upon sheer area would be the only major change I think for REmakes.

The biggest problem with the newer games is that they make you so heavily armed and you don't really need to conserve ammo anymore.

ITEM BOXES NEED TO RETURN

I'm a firm believer that if you're going to re-make then actually re-make it, don't retcon it.

REmake as you said should be the pedestal game for all companies who are thinking of remaking one of their classics

That's the only reason i wouldn't want them to go back at start all over again. Because they will most likely only ruin it

It would be interesting if they did a MGS2 structure for the reboot game.

Have a prologue section where you explore the mansion as Chris or Jill, then have it expand into Raccoon city, where you play as Leon or Claire, and you meet Chris and Jill similar to how Raiden meets Snake.

Basically condense RE1-3 into one cohesive narrative.

I dunno....could be interesting.

Since Shinji Mikami and Hideki Kamiya are out, I don't think I expect anything from RE nowadays. I'd rather play REmake and the old games over and over again than getting RE6 (haven't bought that).

I remember falling asleep playing RE5 and I've never doze off when gaming! That's saying a lot.

So as for the future of RE, I dunno, bow down and die, perhaps?
