all of you complaining about the price.. when u see IM3 MOVIE.. youll change ur mind and Pre order it... its a die cast figure plus an annual increase..soo. they gave us a PLASTIC mark 7 for 250..5% increase and a die cast figure... ill take it

people were paying 300 for the plastic DX 12 BATMAN that need all this modifications to look accurate.. just sayin

adding Diecast was HT's way of a justifying a price increase, even though they still have yet to tell us what on the figure is actually diecast, plus IMO I still think plastic looks better than metal, there is still so little we know about these new figures, like how much articulation they actually have, what they weigh, if paint will chip or fade, there's just too many unanswered questions right now for me to drop $300 plus on one figure

Never said it was new but it hasn't made anything better. There's also been a huge change since Hot Toys saw what some people were making from customs. You can't tell me Hot Toys never saw that and said, lets get these mugs... they'll pay it no matter what.

I'm not sure what that has to do with scalping though. People modified their figures because they felt HT's were inferior, people were paying through the nose for them (TDK Joker I'm looking at you) and then when HT decides to cash in but at a fraction of the cost, people still lose it. The Joker was at one time being done via customs to better the HT versions for around $1000, then the last HT version which incorporated Kato came and people still freaked out at it.

I don't fault HT for offering reissue after reissue, it's good business if people will buy, what I fault them for is essentially gauging the prices as far as they can go because people will blindly follow. If ADs are offering them at 10% cheaper and still make money then you know that the mark up itself it enough even at MSRP to show how they are moving the price as far as they can get away with.

Mark my words, we'll have figures close to $400 in the diecast realm by next summer and people will pay, complain the whole time but still pay.

Sorry but plastic detailing and paint look just as good but often BETTER than diecast. HT knows this and will alter material on certain parts of the figure to call it "diecast"
I really think it's obvious this is done to get a $50 plus price point increase. Period.

Too bad it's not a regular MMS.

Agreed. Jury is still out on this one. Will have to wait and see before I agree to preorder one.

Hey Hot Toys, I have a great idea!
Why don't you fabricate 40% of the armor out of solid platinum,
and call it the '$40% Platinum/ignore the other 60%' Line? That's catchy!
Nevermind the fact that the armor parts will be painted, and when it sits on the shelf there's no way of really telling that it's platinum. Who cares about that? Just using the WORD 'platinum' would make it super-cool, which would justify a $11,500 price point.
And while you're at it, you could replace those tacky LEDs with genuine argon laser lights, and raise the price another $1000. Oh- and you could carve the RDJ likeness from black-market ivory smuggled in from Kenya, and charge another $5000 for that! (too bad the ivory will be painted fleshtone, but... must be film-accurate.) And the stand- make that 40% platinum too. The fact that the stand is SUPPOSED to be platinum colored doesn't matter- PAINT IT ANYWAY.

As for the many thousands of collectors who bought your cheap plastic figures in the past, and MADE your company successful... SCREW 'EM!

Hot Toys didn't like people on eBay and such selling it higher than what they asked. Prices increased and so did reissues because some people were buying bulk just to sell it on for profit.

Personal customs are one thing, selling unlicensed stuff is another. Especially extortionate ones. Hot Toys saw this. If it wasn't for that Hot Toys wouldn't have had a 2.0. Hot Toys appears to like full control. Or the last product. Look how they act even towards Enterbay.

Everytime somebody does something that puts Hot Toys to shame they come out with another version. Just so they can. Yet they had every bit of skill to nail it from the first version.

Everything thats been going on since 2008 on forums has added to price hikes. Because they see openly on forums what people are prepared to pay. Pure exploitation. Push another bit more and another.

DX 12 was 2 months early, whereas DX 09 was close to 3 months early. There's hope

ive just pre ordered the Iron Man MK VII and it was going to be my first IM figure but now that ive seen this one I don't know

The price is pretty crazy but i guess theres plenty of time to decide.

Im only new to this hobby but I already know to not trust release dates. I have Black Widow, Iron Man MK VII both on preorder and i want Spiderman and Cat woman but i know i have plenty of time do decide if i actually do want them.

If we all stopped paying these prices would it drop the prices down

Lol, quoted for truth. Material costs are a drop in the bucket compared to artist sculpting, painting, licensing and assembly costs.

No one asked for the switch to diecast though and it's not like they were struggling to sell the Ironman figures either is it

I don't see really see what the issue is about the "40% die cast material" some people are having here.. I mean, do HT mean it's only 40% on the outside or on the total figure? If they mean the outside, the armor, then I'd complain that it wasn't really much of a die cast figure.

But if they mean the whole thing I don't see the problem with it being 40% die cast as they probably made most of the armor in die cast and everything under/inside in plastic. Why waste more expensive material to increase the prices even more and not to mention the weight it will have if it was all die cast?

They also mentioned that some parts like the helmets would be in plastic because of die casts limited detailing. Not a problem if you ask me since I don't see much difference between the plastic and the die cast.. that brings me to another point though.. die cast = totally unnecessary as I see it. It will probably feel nice to touch, being more realistic.. But, I don't see any difference. Maybe that will change when I get to see them in hand to compare..
