Thinking about getting rid of my DX09. As much as I loved Batman 89 when I was a kid, as an adult I find the Nolan movies to be the definitive film version of Batman.

Something I would unwillingly do, only if absolutely necessary to pay some bills or the like thereof.

You have your reasons and that's fine, I respect that, it's all cool. But it's not something that I could do with this figure. Here's why,

Batman's big emergence in film is represented by this figure, it's a pivotal marker in The Bat's history. After the comedy camp of Batman 1966 style, the world was ready for a meaner leaner Batman that looked like he meant business. I know that the casting choice left a lot to be desired to begin with, crticism of which I too was guilty initially. Then I saw the "I'm BATMAN" trailer and everything changed. I don't know if it was the long bat-ears, the sculpted cowl, the vitually all black costume, it all re-enforced in me the knowledge that in my mind Batman was my top pick of all the heroes (with Spiderman and Superman running equal second). This Batman was tough. In truth, crappy budgets aside, this new tougher Batman was much closer to the old monochrome serials than the '66 TV version.

Plus, just as a figure in its own right...it looks simply incredible!

I guess it shows that he is my favourite hero...right?

I bought quite a few Acrylic cases, for storage and display. Well today I was looking at my figures in my collection and looked at one of the extra '89 Batman bodies I had in the smaller acrylic case. It's just the body, no hands, no cowl, gauntlets, nothing.

Well I opened it up to check it out. The ****ing thing was starting to eat through the case!



I checked and the body/rubber wasn't damaged . . . however it looked like the case itself melted at parts. The back part of the suit (like the sculpted panel/shoulder's on the back with all the folds) and the figure's rear end lied flat against this acrylic case. Where they touched the case is where these melt marks were. Like someone had tried to cut and carve into the case with a knife where the back and butt had touched the acrylic.


Pretty damn strange. There's no residue and the actual suit is fine, no marks. The integrity of the suit is still perfect. I just thought that was a little odd that it's strong enough to start eating through acrylic? My other cases are fine because other than the feet touching the floor of the case, the figures aren't in contact with the walls of the acrylic.

Batman is my favorite hero as well, and I absolutely loved the 89 film when I was a kid. I remember seeing it in the theater and coming away with such excitement. However, I as an adult now, I have an even greater admiration for the Nolan Batman films. I feel like Nolan's interpretation is closer to my own interpretation of the character, so it resonates more for me.

The main reasons I'm thinking about giving up the DX09 are:

1) My collections mainly consists of figures from the Nolanverse, and Keaton looks out of place.

2) Since all my figures are from the Nolanverse, they complement each other well. Keaton feels lonely, which makes me want to get to Nicholson Joker.

3) Don't really want to get the Nicholson Joker.

So it's not so much that I don't love the figure, or love the 89 Batman movie. I still love the movie, and I think the figure is incredible. It just doesn't fit with what I'm trying to achieve with my collection right now.

hey difabio is your case near a heater ? any pics just put one of my bats in a temporary acrylic case until can get my cabinets.....ON the other TOPIC wingchunjourney I would put your figure away and not sell until your sure ...This guy will go up in value eventualy and dont want to pay double later...There is more batman coming like the batwing and returns figure's and they will need a 89 to go with either way i'd wouldnt sell until your sure of what display you want...

I have other figures in acrylic cases, rubber suited Batmans included, and they're all fine.

Remember, I said this was just a loose body laying in an acrylic case on it's back. It's not the whole figure, just the body. I have another '89 Batman in an acylic case with the head and cape and everything and it's just fine.

This was just from the suit laying against the case I think.

Well you got me riddler or difabio ??? I was thinking a heat source or chemical reaction ...The only reason i picked 2 bats up for just in case anything happens ,but so far bats still all good. Let us know if figure it out...

I'm just glad the extra suit/body is fine. It was just weird seeing the affect it had on the acrylic case.

I wonder if, had I left it in there and not noticed, would it eat through the entire wall of the case and come out clean?

Those pictures are superb! It is such a well done figure that it is easy to imagine a whole face under the mask, rather than just the mouth plate. And the eyes are captured perfectly too.

It's just a brilliant figure. The cape's a pig, the posing can be slightly limited and the PERS panel can be obvious on some folk's figures, but all-in-all this is my favourite figure of all time!

Or is it the Chris Reeve SUPERMAN..?

Rubber always have some primer on it... And it is always expeling it, thas why it have always "rubber smell". That primer have reacted with your acrilic case while have been on contact. Something like that happens with the dx02, but with the contact of 2 materials of the actual suit.
The reaction only happens with the combination of some materials, some plastics and rubbers. No all the rubbers and plastics reacts with each other.

Thanks, guys. I think this and the Joker are simply very photogenic figures. Haven't seen a single unflattering shot of them (not that this statement should be taken as a challenge ). HT did a bang-up job on these compared with other lines and they're classic characters, which makes them all the better. Here's hoping the quality continues with Catwoman and Penguin.

Ok, so I futzed for over an hour last night with this cape and still can't get it the way I want it.

Love the figure, but damn this cape is so frustrating. That being said, it is still one of my favorites. Was my first HT too!
