But not making her character would completely disrespect the film. She is the hero.

In fact I am disturbed that some people here watch the film and seem to dismiss her in favour of a clearly secondary character like Vickers. Sure Théron is prettier and she has the violent scene with the flame thrower, but again elevating that above Shaw's heroics seems pretty messed up.

Shaw was a very ham-fisted, pedestrian character portrayed by a not-very-good actress. That's why I don't give a damn about her. At least David & Vickers are interesting and given life by solid performances. And an Engineer/Jockey figure would just look cool (important for $200+ collectibles).

If the Shaw is the first/only figure revealed, the line will sputter and go no further (unless space jockey is already in the works, too).

Why did he do this film? Read below for George Miller's $ad reasoning to return to "Mad Max/Road Warrior."

Of course, Miller isn’t the only well-known auteur to return to the material that helped make his name; Ridley Scott is nearing completion on “Prometheus,” a prequel to his 1979 film, and planning a follow-up to “Blade Runner.” Miller suggested that part of the reason he and others are taking on these projects from their past is that their cache among audiences makes them easier to get produced. “I think the way the business is now, sort of tentpole movies do require an already built-in audience,” he observed. “Films based on well-known properties, whether they’re television, really epically-selling novels or books or remake of old movies or sequels, it’s just become a staple of the business, because it’s a very, very tough business, and hard to get anybody to pay attention because there’s so much out there.”

It happened to Lucas, Spielberg... now Miller and Scott. I guess you get old enough, you just don't care anymore, you want the cash to leave to your kids.

Dent had it partly right: You die a hero or you live long enough to become what you hate.

It almost feels like Rocky 3, too long at the top and you lloose your fire. It seems every director I've genuinely respected when I was younger has been putting out mostly mediocre work. I wonder if it's just time and happens to all, or if our current film culture that only wants remakes, reboots or prequels is to blame?

Completely agree.

Just back from the movie .... entertaining but disappointing on the plot, what's the point making this movie? I do not understand .... why show the alien at last, wtf :panic::panic::panic:

That's basically how I felt about 1/3 of the way into the movie. That was when I already knew how the plot would unwind (and was disappointed).

I basically enjoyed the rest of the movie as the visual that it was, but nothing more.

"Alien" had characters that were not only believable - but they each acted in a way you very quickly learned to expect of their character (because they were well written and acted). In Prometheus - the characters seemed to be just moving from cue spot to cue spot and delivering lines.

According to Wikipedia, Charlize Theron was casted as Elizabeth Shaw and would have played the heroine in this movie if it wasn't for her involvement with Mad Max 4. The delay in that film allows Charlize to rejoin this movie, and her character was further developed than originally planned.

Also check out the list of attractive women that Charlize initially beat out: "Actresses Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, Gemma Arterton, Carey Mulligan, and Abbie Cornish, were all considered for the role during development".

I remember thinking when I first saw the teaser trailer and heard Shaw's character say "We were so wrong" - that she sounded irritatingly whiney.

Turns out - she was like that throughout most of the movie. It was hard for me to sympathize with her. She was annoying.

Saw the movie last night and absolutely loved it! I like how it was different from ALIEN and ALIENS and how some questions were answered but some new ones arose. Thankfully I didn't listen to the handfull of disappointed people which were probably expecting an alien or aliens movie!

I wasn't necessarily expecting "Alien" redux. But I was also not expecting "Aliens VS Predators" redux either lol.

i didnt really give a $%*^ about what happen to the characters besides Shaw, the captian and David.

I agree with a friend of mine when he said that it seemed to him that David was in a totally different movie. He was doing stuff that didn't fit into any of the the other character's plot motives (including Weylan).

So it was hard for me to feel anything for him as a character.

Yeah, because such a line of thought is so irrational. :lol

It would be like going into the Bane figure thread for example and repeatedly bashing the character design even before the figure has been revealed. Fact is film bashing and the same negative posts wouldn't happen in any Batman or Avengers thread; and if it did the guys wouldn't stand for it anyway.

This thread and the movie thread are being used by people to release their trollish internet behaviour.

If you guys don't like the film and don't want to buy the figures why post in here?

But we do want some of the characters from this film as figures. We just don't want some of the others, and have discussed our reasons. Why is this a big deal? Why is it "trolling"? And why are you getting so upset about it?

And believe me, if you think this is negative and "trolling" you probably haven't spent much time in many other parts of these forums. :lol

Spoiler Spoiler:

...or do I?:rolleyes2

He was actually pretty good in his small, blink-and-you'll miss it role. The film would have benefited from him in a larger part. He probably should have played Holloway, actually.

We should rename this the I don't want this figure because I didn't like their character in the film thread.

Actually, a better title might be "I don't want this figure because I didn't like a character therefore no one in the world could possibly like this character." :) But isn't that most threads on here (and the internet for that matter.) People conflate their view with that of the general populace all the time.

Seriously though, I think it'd be cool if they did the Engineer first. Then David. Then maybe the ProtoXeno followed by Vickers. Between Vickers and Shaw, I think Vickers is probably going to be more of a draw, depending on the outfit. She might do better in the suit. But if that's the case, I still like the idea of doing one with both Vickers and Shaw heads. Not that HT would probably do that.

And anyone who thinks Theron is a bad actress... well... that's an opinion, I guess. :)

Whoever said anything remotely like that?

The closest might be when I said that if Shaw is the first/only figure that Hot Toys reveals that the line would not go very far. And I stand by that observation/prediction. But that certainly doesn't mean I think no one at all likes that character or would want that figure. Quit casting aspersions.

Do people always have to get so butt-hurt when others don't like something that they like? Geez. Grow a pair, folks.
