His the 3d in this. Haven't seen a lot of reports on that. I know it was shot in 3d so I'm expecting it to be good and the fact Weta did the digital effects I expect those to be good as well. The rest we shall see.

Well, it's good but has its flaws. Definitely not the masterpiece some were hoping for. With a great script it would have had a shot. Still a lot better than standard Summer fare, though.

I now have a different kind of feeling about the engineer at the very beginning. Since we are watching a movie with clearly culturally derived name, maybe we ought to look some more into it. Perhaps the engineer that seeds the earth is like Prometheus in our mythos, we see the ship leave the planet earth and one engineer is left behind. But is he left there on purpose or did he secretly leave the ship to give earth the building blocks of life? Perhaps this engineer has seen where his race in going and tries to make amends to life. Maybe the engineers didn't change their mind on earth after all, maybe it was never supposed to be. This could explain why the engineers on LV-223 are seemingly so keen to destroy earth and the crew of Prometheus.

Great theory. But there's a problem with, and a problem in general with that whole plot point.

1.

Spoiler:

I keep reading that the Space Jockey's want to destroy Earth. This makes absolutely no sense. It doesn't even make sense with the great explanation Moloch Horridus came up with. And here's why: The Space Jockey's/Engineer's KNEW about Earth and KNEW about the human beings (early civilizations) that lived here. Remember, the whole reason the Prometheus mission happened was because the two Archaeologists found paintings(!?) from early human civilizations depicting Space Jockey's showing their "home world" i.e. the star system coordinates to find them. They would have no way of knowing this (i.e. the first SJ that seeds Earth was dead millions of years before their existence) unless the SJ's came back and visited them and gave them that info.

Which leads to the second problem..

Why in the hell would these SJ's give these early humans coordinates to a military installation instead of their actual homeworld!? Because I keep reading that LV-233 was like a military base that housed their bio-weapons. Ok. So why would they give humans that info!?

And just in general, a lot of this movie's plot sounds like Star Gate.

Ah, the classic, "sideways is not an option" trick.

It actually looked closer to Sil from Species.

Which is still okay because Sil was designed by Giger and maintains that humanoid, yet WTF quality. I could see her being part of this same universe in a way.
