So to recap, my Solid Snake has:

No serial number on the box
the warning and attention boxes are of a dark background
the box art of the character on the side is a bit blurry
the box under a light is a dull black sheen
the 25th sticker is a cheap glossy finish
the circular tape on the boxes was cheap and a bit off centre
The face has wayward gray paint smudges on the cheeks, chin, ears and neck
Orange eyes with hardly any gloss
dark brown untidy lips
More of a semi gloss finish on the upper torso
Loose leg joints straight outta the box

Also the card on the box just feels cheap and rough and the instructions look like a cheap photocopy.

So yeah i'm screwed, lol.

The only plus points are the weapons, the finish looks accurate and the famas even has a metal ring on the strap, but going off the quality of the figure overall (it really doesn't feel or look like a bootleg unless you know what you're looking for) it could be that they put as much effort in with the weapons as the rest of the figure.

Nothing has been confirmed yet in terms of these being bootlegs or just bad production runs. Hope it's the latter.

The seller on ebay was: snapdragontoys Absolutely fantastic seller, asked for EMS shipping and got it no problem was here lightning quick and was packaged nicely. Whether she knows she's selling bootlegs (if true) or not who knows. I won't mention anhything until it is confirmed.

I am absolutely loving the figure though I must say, it really puts you in mind of the artwork for the games. I just think in future I will be patient and wait for reputable sellers to get them in lol.

Could there be multiple factories making (genuine I mean) these? & it's a matter of one factory having better QC than the another? I don't know if I imagined this, but wasn't there Japanese & American versions of the same Final Fantasy figures before? That could be another theory? :dunno

Sorry guys..

Sometimes ignorance is happiness. but If I were you , I would try not to think about this any more (Bootleg or not :/)

Good point, I had thought the same thing

You have a point, bro Valvoliner, but it's not like choosing between a 'Mint in Sealed (never opened)' Hot Toys boxed set over a 'Mint but Opened' one..

These Play Arts Kai figures are half the price of an average Hot Toys boxed set, and if you get a bootleg, it kills its value for money. Knowing you got a bootleg will naturally make you think what you could've spent with that money instead. :dunno

It's always good to share these types of info (description of bootleg & sellers who are potentially selling them whether unaware or intentional), as nobody wants to get duped both intentionally or accidentally. :wave

I`ve got a bootleg Cyborg Ninja from eBay, seller "correlations"....

Tried a claim but eBay insists that I send this bootleg back to the scammer (it would cost me USD$49.17), I asked if I tape the destruction of the product on video would do, but eBay never replied. A shame that eBay protects sellers who sells illegal stuff, never again I get something like this again on eBay....

Wow that looks awesome. Wonder if the tentacle part comes off like the game?

I can't wait for Liquid, Ocelot, MGS2 Snake and Raiden.

Ohh man the thought of having all these characters as figures is awesome I hope they get to do a good few characters from each game.

OK...thanks for the info guys....i think my bootleg ninja will do till i get the original...aesthetically they are the same i just while posing that it feels wrong and cheap especialy in the foot articulation it barely move and when it does in a second gets back to its original position it fells more like a soft vinyl than hard plastic like my snake.....
post some photos below....the only defect i found in my snake is that the golden rings on his left arm shoulder are barely paint but nithing to serious.....

I also got a bootleg Ninja from eBay, seller correlations
I paid USD$95 shipping included to Brazil.

I sent a message to the seller but he claims it to be legit...

I them opened a dispute and after a claim, eBay decided in my favor but the condition was for me to ship the Ninja back to the seller, which would cost me another USD$50....

I asked eBay that if I make a video destroying the Ninja would serve, they never replied

So I guess I got fooled by this one...

Here is a picture I took

Lol! Meant that as a pun (liberty) because we have been waiting for decent large-scale MGS figures for so long, it's like Play Arts Kai is liberating us

Possible Bootleg comparisons

Reposting the bootleg comparison photos:
*credits to Sorubeido and frascomortz of PTK forum

- Take a look at the difference on the stickers. On the left is the box of Solid Snake (matte finish) and on the right is the box of Grayfox, where you could see that the sticker has a glossy finish:

- Another box comparison. The Gray Fox box on the right is slightly lighter in color shade.

-Look at the Serial Numbers of these Square Enix Play Arts Kai boxes, photos were taken in the same lighting condition:

It could also be the case, that Play Arts is out-sourcing their figures to other factories in Asia, and that each factory has different quality standards in manufacturing (some better than others). After all, these figures are mass-produced by the thousands.

Not saying that what anyone has posted so far is wrong, but I think that Square/Play Arts should give an official statement on what really constitutes a bootleg.

Yeah i'd like some clarification before I take action on ebay etc!

There are numerous signs my Snake is a bootleg but when I look at the actual fig it's just like "it can't be a bootleg" If it is its a scary good one.

Is it strange for a bootleg figure to come out so close to, or even at, release date? That's some pretty fast work for a bootleg figure.
