that's too bad. Just out of curiosity, what types of movies are in your top rated list?
Not sure if you're talking over all or horror. Horror wise I liked The Grudge, the original The Exorcist, the original Dawn Of The Dead and the remake, The Shining. Alien and Aliens, 30 Days Of Night, The Ring was ok. A lot of movies referenced in The Cabin In The Woods I liked. It just didn't work for me mish mashing them all together. Seriously people all around me were talking about how bad it was. I read some reviews online which were talking about how "original" it was. Seriously?

If you like horror flicks, and don't like this movie, then I don't know. I mean...I really don't. Unless you went in wanting to hate it or something.

Seeing that Evil Dead 2 cabin made me smile. I knew I was in for something special.
Isn't the word horror supposed to denote scary? If your idea of a successful horror movie is to take known creatures and story lines, put them in a blender, blend them, drink it, and then vomit it out, then I don't know. I mean...I really don't. And as far as your last sentence, the last time I checked my bank account it didn't show that I was filthy rich. So no, I did not pay for 3 admissions to a movie because we were bored and wanted to see a movie that we wanted to hate.:cuckoo:

It's original because they took the generic idea of 5 people going to a cabin on vacation, and turned it on its head. But the film isn't for everybody. Joss Whedon is not for everyone. Not sure if you ever watched Buffy, Angel, Firefly, or Dollhouse. Those are all Whedon's creations. I saw a lot of Angel, especially the idea of Wolfram and Hart in this movie. I'm just glad I enjoyed it, because I haven't enjoyed a new movie in a long time. Doesn't matter to me that other people didn't like it. I like to make decisions on my own.

I've never seen Firefly ( not even the movie but I'll pick it up now ) , Buffy , Angel or Dollhouse but I loved this.

Spoiler Spoiler:

:lol

These five characters remind me of a favorite cartoon.
If the jock is Fred, the slut is Daphne, the scholar is Velma, and Shaggy is the stoner, does that make Scooby the virgin?

Except that she wasn't a slut and he wasn't a jock. That was the point. They were actually very intelligent people. But whatever they were pumping into the air (and putting in the weed) was hindering their intelligence. Or, to their surprise, making Marty more aware.

I loved that.

I know that with joss whedon you either love his work or hate it, I never watched buffy or any shows he created. I did think this was an enjoyable experience at the movies

Shame they waited to bring it out after Tucker and Dale vs Evil, because that did the same thing and was a better movie. Actually the Horror April Fools Day that came out in 1986 did the same thing.

Saying that the movie still felt fresh and I thought it was great 2 thirds in, I think the originality came from the control room scenes, until everything went bonkers (Why have that button, and why have no fail safe?) although it did bring to mind Stay Tuned with John Ritter, but it was far enough removed from that to be just a slight resemblance

Yea it's definately a weird movie. Can see why people wouldn't like it but the craziness made it fun as hell for me.

Same here. Horror movies arent scary any more. No point in even trying. Just make it fun.

Too true. There were certain parts I found creepy though. One scene in particular that was reminiscent of evil dead 2. I think Raimi would enjoy this movie.

I would say this one goes beyond trying to be fun. It's one of the most sharply pointed movies I've seen in a long time. And considering who it's pointed at, even better.

Indeed. I've had some great cinema experiences but this was the best in recent memory. Late night showing with a theatre full of horror buffs. No one claps, laughs out loud or shouts at the screen in the UK but this got all of those. Great time. Can't wait to see it again on Blu.

I want to see it a few more times in the theater. And it will be bought on Blu for sure. I want to be able to pause and study....THAT scene.

:lecture:lecture:lecture

And that's what's great about it. You can enjoy it because it's funny or because of the parts when the ____ hits the fan and not even register the amicable middle finger you're getting. Though the pimp-smack at the end is harder to ignore.
