I know it's crying over spilt milk, but I still say today, like I did before Thor was released... I think Chris Hemsworth is too "small" to be Thor. :(

Compared to Hemsworth, Thor needs to have a longer trunk, thicker thighs, and a little bit taller overall. But oh well.

you are joking right?? the man is a BEAST

I wouldn't say that. Just the fact that they hired Mark Ruffalo for the part means that the creators at least care about Banner and wanted a good actor to portray him. If they just needed a vessel to keep the Hulk persona in the movie, they could've hired any actor and I'm sure there are ones out there who are cheaper than Ruffalo.
I think the guy is a great actor (go watch Zodiac for instance, those who disagree) and I'm really looking forward to see how he'll play Banner.

It's weird but just that one scene in the first trailer, where Tony comments on his admiration for the transforming in a giant green rage monster, and he just plainly says: 'Thanks' got me to be very interested to see how he will play this part.

I figure that it's a catch-22. Banner's character has alot going against him. It's a requirement that the Hulk be more interesting. I mean we could read about a Hulk who never changes back into Banner, but never the other way around. He just doesn't do much aside from run away from a scene or seek a cure for his condition or wallow in self-loathing and fear. He works against his awesome Hulk-self and in that respect makes him unlikeable. He's his own worst enemy.

The drifting-tortured-soul thing can work as we saw with the powered-down Ferrigno Hulk because it avoided the epic scenarios that a comic book Hulk (take your pick) invites on a routine basis. The significance of his private struggle is completely eclipsed. When does he find the time to mourn the loss of a normal family life or a successful career after he's likely to have adversely affected countless lives during a fight with the Abomination or Absorbing Man? By keeping the fallout confined to a handful of people, his conflict becomes more recognizable. By making Banner likeable though, we begin to see it his way and wish that Hulk would go away for the most part. This is not permissible for a movie Hulk.

So to sum up:

Better Banner Story=Weaker Hulk Story
Better Hulk Story= Weaker Banner Story

Ruffalo is all but doomed to be a tool for the Avengers, but he might provide some decent one-liners. He also might be relegated to a "skeptic" role on the team to help balance out Cap's optimism. If he's good, you won't hate him but you won't love him either. It's just the limit to that side of his character for me.

Hemsworth was a pretty good fit for the build needed. I think you are expecting TOO MUCH of a comic book look for your Thor. As that would be great, it doesn't translate into the real world of the movies they are making. Not many good to great actors are built that way.

You misunderstood what I was saying, but that's OK.

I'm glad you get my point and true, perhaps Hemsworth is the largest they could find with enough acting skills to play the part. That's too bad.

I was hoping for the God of Thunder from Asgard.
What we got is Captain Kirk's dad from Assguard.

A bit taller than Hemsworth? He's like 6'4" isn't he? That's a pretty respectable height. He and Tom Hiddleston both tower over most of the rest of the cast in a lot of those set pics.

Yeah sure there's guys that are taller than that, but there's not a lot of them in general population let alone muscular, actors, white and blonde, the right age, and "good" at acting. Brian Steel is about the only actor I can think of who's really tall (6'7") and he pretty much only does suit work.

:lol It hasn't but its a very good guess might also explain why

Spoiler Spoiler:

Holy crap, I never thought of that :slap

Crap, this mean then:

Spoiler Spoiler:

:gah:

Heh, you know, if that's the case, i Might JUST get the new Thor figure to go with my original Thor.

I dont need a screaming head as none of the other Marvel characters have that sort of thing so it would look out of place on only one character IMO...and it just ups the price even more.

I would have have an enviro base instead honestly

yeah the avengers hulk is definitely more monster than bana's and norton's. that said, i'm hoping hot toys includes at least 2 head sculpts. one with a pissed off face and one screaming.

I'll be shocked if Hulk only has one head. Why? besides an extra head or two, and a few hands, what other accessories can he POSSIBLY come with?

I was in the same mind set as you a few days ago, norton is surely the best banner yet, but i'll give Ruffalo a chance and who knows, may be he'll get his own hulk series after this

According to Lauren Shuler Donner, the wheels are already in motion for another Hulk film post Avengers with Ruffalo. Like it or not he is signed up for The Hulk and I doubt he'd go the Norton route and piss off Marvel Studios anytime soon.

Bixby was the best Banner because he had a more straight forward good guy approach. He was really mild mannered and the contrast when he became Hulk was awesome.

That's an amazingly awkward comparison since Bixby never ever had to play the actual Hulk. Then again neither did Norton or Bana. If I remember correctly they stuck motion sensors on Ruffalo and had him say and repeat the minimal lines as well as emote so they could lay the CGI over him, which is why the Hulk really looks like Ruffalo this time around instead of a passing resemblance in the last two, that's why he is credited with both Banner and The Hulk even though ol' Lou Ferrigno is the one providing the actual voice of the Hulk again.

What would Lauren Shuler Donner have to do with a new Hulk film? As far as i'm aware she's only got any say on the Fox properties, mainly X-men, she hasn't had anything to do with Marvel Studios has she?

She does and she doesn't. The talks about non Fox Marvel properties all the time mainly because her and Feige are buddies, he used to be her assistant. Who knows maybe they are bringing her in to produce the next or maybe she is just speaking from what she's heard. Let me see if I can try and ferret out the article...

I didn't think she had done, i always understood she was a prominent force behind the x properties, now you mention them being friends it makes a bit more sense because i think they did an interview together regard First Class last year.

I can't find it, it was right after Ruffalo was cast and the speculation that he'd do his own Hulk film because he was signed for a few. I found Feige saying they'll be one but no timeline established for it.

Bixby doesn't have to play the Hulk directly in order to play Banner well, which I think he did better than his successors. He did great on those little transition scenes though (cue green contacts!). The Hulk and Banner are two completely different characters though they share the same body.

The point was that the contrast between the two (Banner/Hulk) was more complete. Norton always appears to have an undercurrent of rage, but it makes his identity as Banner less of a contrast. Not only that, both Norton and Bana never came off as heroes. One was a fugitive and the other was a victim. Bixby was the real hero of that show with the Hulk being a necessary evil in his tragic story. The more civilized and urbane the ego, the more it framed the savage id.

Bixby treated Banner's anger like a disease, or an allergic reaction. His whole approach was closer to that of a doctor rather than a fugitive. It was cool watching him make moves to blend in or help people out when he could. When the Hulk finally came around, it was to overcome the immediate obstacle in David's mundane world. There were no other superheroes to speak of beyond the goofier TV movies.

Now the CGI Hulk is always going to be a team effort but if Ruffalo has more of a role there, then he could very well be the best Hulk yet. The Hulk bits I've seen from the trailer are absolutely selling me on this film. I just don't expect Banner to be anything more than a placeholder for the Hulk. Kudos to Ruffalo if he does a respectable job, but there is a reason why the TV show worked so well for Bixby and Ferrigno.

I think Mark Ruffalo is the perfect actor to play Bruce Banner. In every film he's been in Ruffalo has come off as a calm, mild-mannered character.

I love that Lou Ferrigno is doing the voice of the Hulk. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he do the voice for Hulk in the first 2 movies? I loved the growls that Ted Cassidy provided for Hulk in the first couple of seasons of the show. It's too bad he passed away.

Yes, the Hulk looks a lot like Ruffalo and does resemble some of the more monstrous versions of Hulk. I'm interested if they are going to go with the current version of Hulk were he is not a mindless monster but more of an intelligent loner who only seeks to be left alone. If so it would be the first time ever that we had a live-action intelligent Hulk.

:goodpost:

in the latest trailer we see him jump up and rescue iron man, i saw this as odd and instantly thought "maybe hulk is less dumb in this film" would be interesting to see
