That would be just fine by me. All of those were great movies. Just because movie A is better than movie B, doesn't make movie B garbage.

Yes but that actually doesn't have anything to do with what I was saying. I was specifically addressing claims that this might be the best year ever for genre films. It really could be considering the line-up. But when I look at each film individually it seems that there's a pretty good chance that there's going to still be a better movie showcasing the same characters from a previous year.

Which would just make this year unique in the shear volume of A-list icons making an appearance but not in the amount of genre classics it generated like we saw in 1982 or '84.

Captain America: The First Avenger, Spider-Man 2002, The Dark Knight, Alien, and The Lord of the Rings weren't released in 1982 or 1984...

You be shocked at how many women I know who are ballsier than the guys I know. A badass chick "creates" them when she needs them

I thought Cap was the best Marvel Studios movie so far, Thor was fun but nothing really to write home about, I like the period piece which is also why I loved X-Men: First Class.

But I prefer Xmen: First Class to Cap. Both are excellent IMO, but I just preferred the younger versions of the icons we've known from the Xmen movies. Thor was really good too, but I can't say I enjoy repeated viewings like I did Cap and/or Xmen.

Then I if you're going for that I think you're already going to have disagreements right off of the bat.

I don't think so (unless you mean me disagreeing with you about there being disagreements. )

Let's take 2008 for example. People were touting that as a possible best summer ever with new Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Batman, Iron Man, Hulk, etc., movies coming out and I think we can mostly agree that there were really only two "geek" films that endured, Iron Man and The Dark Knight.

I wonder if we'll look back at 2012 as another 2008 with The Hobbit and TDKR being the only standouts or if it really will be a year of historic awesomeness.

Well then take my list and replace Cap with Iron Man and/or Thor. Avengers might be hard pressed to top those two movies which was my main point, that we may have already seen "better" movies with the characters appearing in Whedon's flick.

I get your point but I would say that The Incredible Hulk while not performing amazingly was beloved more than Ang Lee's version by concensus.

You listed those in one post and mentioned those years in others... Apart from RotLA, ToD, and I think BTTF, I dunno what popular movies you're referring too.... But I was born in the latter half of that decade, I dunno years to '80s movies.

I remember 2005 as my year of movies. It's all about the excitement and anticipation. It's not the lasting result. This year has anlot of hyped and exciting sequels. Bourne and Bond are absent from your list that I think should be added

1982 and 1984 were just huge years for genre films without every single one of them being a reboot or part of a series.

All of the above are either standalone classics (bona fide or cult) or the with the exception of TOD the best of their respective series. 2012 will be hard pressed to achieve the same but it will be insanely cool if it can come close.

I liked iron man 2 a lot as well...just not as much as number 1
