I watched Robocop 3 last night. Cheesy as ___k and with a crap 'robo' villain but am I mad in thinking it may possibly be better than 2?

They made a Robocop 3??? :D

As much as I disliked 2, I thought it was miles better than 3. Only thing cool in 3 were the effects in the ED-209 scene. They really mastered the smoothness of his movements by then.

Could there have been a good Robocop sequel? They tried twice and in many people's opinion failed twice. Makes me wonder does Robocop just not lend itself very well to being a franchise for some reason.

That is a very interesting point!

I think there was a lot of strong elements and subtexts in Robocop 2 but it just gets lost in the OTT gore and muddled plot. I cannot help but think that if R2 was reedited, it would be a better movie. Then maybe we could have a better idea on weather a good sequel is possible.

Its just, at the end of the first film I think to myself 'yes, I'd like to see what follows on from this'....but 2 and 3 completely failed to continue what went before in a way that I could find acceptable. Just one minor example - the 'old man' at OCP, I think became completely misrepresented in Robocop 2. At the end of the first film he acknowledges Robocop on a human level ''nice shootin' son, whats your name?'' yet the second film portrays him as a complete irredeemable corporate b@st@rd. Was I wrong to get the impression from the first film that the old guy was softer than the likes of D!ck Jones? Not exactly a John Hammond from Jurassic Park but not the character he became in Robocop 2 either.

When I was younger I definitely preferred 3 over 2.
Both sequels suck balls though. Now there's only one Robocop for me!

Compared to 1, 2 is lame, but by itself it is very entertaining to me. I like the characters, I like blue Robo, and I love RoboCain. It was definitely written (by Frank Miller) to fit better in a comic book universe than on film though.

I can't even watch 3 anymore. But I like the jetpack. That's about it.

That sums it up for me exactly!

Spot on a-dev :lecture I think Robocop was a one off: unique and brave direction, superb design, great cast, score...everything was alligned perfectly. By no.2, they didn't know what demographic to pitch it to and they tried to copy Verhoven's style with piss poor results.
It had its moments though, particularly the final act.
The problem is it didn't build on the first film enough specifically Murphy's reclaimed humanity. Three was just pish but like Silent Surfer said, the flightpack was pretty cool.

The first few mins of Robocop 2 with the adverts and the punch through the door does give you the impression that is gonna be like the first movie and good.

As soon a Duffy shows up, its' all downhill from there i think!

I still really like the fight at the end though even if it is a bit OTT.

robocop 2 was able to ride a big bike. you have to suspend logic a bit y'know. lolz

I just like Robocop 1 and Prime directives I can careless about the other 2 movies.

This! :lecture

That's one of the reasons I don't like the sequels. Then there's Ropcop himself. Murphy pretty much lost all of his humanity after the first film for some odd reason. I mean, what happened to the character? At the end of the first one he realizes who he was, that was part of the story, he learns that he was Murphy and then calls himself as much. The sequels completely go against this idea though. I definitely don't consider them "canon" or continuations of where the first left off.

RoboCop 2 and 3 happened in an Alternate Universe where Murphy didn't go through the events of the first film. That's the only rational explanation i can think of

Robocop 2 goes into it briefly near the beginning with him 'stalking' his wife and the mean OCP guys telling him to back off and that hes just a machine...and then thats it. Theres nothing more for the rest of the film, he seems to just accept it. Right well so much for that!

Well anyway, I'll still buy Cain. I loik robots I do!

I liked both Robocop and Robocop 2, I have no problem with either. 3 is a whooooole nother' story however!
