Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

The sculpt is just....perfect...

Every time I look at the HT Indy sculpt, I quickly have to come to this thread and indulge in how amazing Supes' sculpt is :D:D

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

This thread is a breath of fresh air from the DX05 INDY thread.

This is full of win.:yess:

The INDY full of fail.:monkey2

Is that a summary of the Indy thread?

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

Honestly, I prefer the other batch of pictures to OMG's. No offense OMG. Something about the lighting in the others brings out the Reeve in the sculpt.

iunno.. to me this pic especially from OMG screams Christopher Reeve.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

So, get better at it. I said that the differences were evident; just far more subtle than they initially appeared to be. Subtle enough, in fact, that the two sculpts could be mistaken for the same one. I can see the differences in the right lighting, but not in all lighting.

I think people underestimated the original one, is all. It was much closer than it was given credit for.

Ummm...A big fat NO is all I can say in regards to the original one not being given enough credit. I did not see a single angle of the original prototype that even remotely looked like Reeve. If you did, more power to ya... And as for telling me to get better at my English writing, get off your high horse. I'll tell you to get better at knowing what Christopher Reeve looks like by going and watching the movies again.
It simply looks like a young Chris Reeve, while Arnie's 1/4 looks like a more mature Reeve.

As you can see the jawline and the cleft are perfectly well done.
There is a major difference between the original prototype and the new one. Below is a manipulation which as you can see now more closely resembles the final product more closely. The biggest difference is the size of the neck, however that would mean they would need to change the body type and they chose not to do that. I'm happy Hot Toys changed and fixed the sculpt as I would not have been happy with the first attempt.

I didn't say the original looked like Reeve. Just that the new one looks a lot like the original, especially as it appeared in the SDCC photos. The jawline has been changed, and so have the eyes, but the old one is still clearly visible in the new one. Personally, neither incarnation looks like Reeve, but they do evoke his visage very strongly, which is all they need to do. The pictures that have been posted now accomplish that far better than the earlier ones do, but the difference between them is negligible. The prototype was an excellent foundation.

And it was your reading that was the problem, not your writing. So no, I like my high horse just fine, thanks. I have long legs. Keeps the dust off my boots.

It's an entirely new sculpt, even the ears were changed. I don't see how you say the basic foundation remained as every aspect of the sculpt was made more proportional to how Chris looks. And if you look closely, it is a super close match compared to the young Reeve photo above. Tell me where the differences are that you notice? Remember that both of the pictures I posted are slightly different sizes.

Jawline and eyes changed which you acknowledge. The nose is clearly different along with every line of the hair. Yes the hairline is a bit off still, however it is still different than the prototype. The ears have been matched up with Reeve along with the eyes. Ultimately the neck and hairline are the only two things not exactly like a young Reeve.
And this one below is almost dead on with the lighting and angle.

Now look at a young Reeve

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

There's something about the eyes that's off. Set too deep in the sculpt, perhaps? I don't know. Whatever it is though, it's not important.

I see the comparison shot you added to your previous post. That makes the difference very clear, thank you. And it does look much more like Reeve. It's just that the changes are miniscule. Looking at them side by side, however, the effect is significant. You're right.

My issue is that OMG's pics look very different from the amateur pics that have been posted. They bring out the similarities to the prototype. I apologize if that was frustrating.

You're right though, the eyes can never be perfect as it is very hard without glass to get an exact eye replica that does justice. However these are blown up and much larger than the sculpts real size, so the eyes should look better in person. I love the paint job for the eye lashes and eye brows, as perfect as it can get. Maybe the depth of the eyes are different, for that I would need to see more angles. I'm glad though the changes were made, this could have easily been as bad as what we are seeing in the Indy thread..

Here is another good pic of Reeve that closely resembles the new sculpt. Granted Reeve dyed his hair jet black for the movies but still the face looking young vs his older Superman III and IV look are very different.

The Indy figure is rough. :lol

The changes are good, no doubt. Everything they did, they did right.

Also in all of WOW's pictures, the light is above Supers head so the shadow under the eyes is more pronounced. In the picture above and in most pictures of Reeve, he usually has his eyes opened up wider which raises his eybrows and makes him look different. This new sculpt is Supes being more serious so his eyes look smaller and forehead slightly bigger. It's all in the minute expressions he makes which make the biggest differences between shots.

Chris as a teen

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

That last one you posted looks very close to the sculpt. He's a little rounder in the face, but the essential features are there. Eyes and browline are dead on.

The teen picture almost looks like Christian Slater.

Yeah, I agree with you on that assessment. A sculpt can never be 100% perfect unless it is a casting. Yeah, the roundness in the face is slightly different, but close enough. I know that Chris Reeve ate protein shakes while weightlifting to get bigger for the role and between Supes 1, 2 and 3 he did change slightly. That might be what we are seeing from his younger pre-Superman pics. Overall, unless Arnie tells us exactly what pictures he used for inspiration on this sculpt, or if it was simply movie stills taken of Superman the Movie, or a combination. The combination of pictures may explain how we cannot nail a picture that looks exactly like his final product.

It's amazing how little we have to complain about now..I should go back to the Indy thread to get my bashing fix..lol..
It would be cool to create this scene with the HT Supes

Coming over here for a breather, the Indy thread is becoming overwhelming. I would love to see some pics of the crystal base, looks amazing from the quick glimpses in the video etc.

I agree, the Indy thread is like a wake with no booze.

Yeah, I had to take a break from the Indy thread too, since it's way out of control. The sculpt looks much better now and actually looks like Ford, but folks are still whining about a couple of bad pics.

I guess if you stare at it long enough and keep telling yourself it looks like Ford, you could open yourself up to self brainwash and be happy with it for awhile. Until reality sets in later down the road when somebody releases a sculpt that actually looks like Ford...

I'm hoping Enterbay does this.

This Superman here looks radically different under different lighting conditions. Some of the photo's look close to the proto, while others look like the 'tweak'.(maybe even a combo of both?) The difference is so jarring it makes me wonder if BOTH sculpts were released.

I don't feel like posting photo's to describe what i am talking about, too tired, but i think some of you know where i am coming from.

Ha haters are gonna hate. I'm hoping my Superman arrives shortly. I really can't wait. I love some of the comments on this thread, makes me laugh "I can't see Christopher Reeve in this sculpt" etc, haha what are people on about? I wonder if the people making these comments can't afford the figure so are just bitter. I love it and think the sculpt is spot on. Ah if only they'd do a Zod figure next.
