If it last until the game comes out. :lecture

Very curious now to see how this fares tomorrow as I still believe it is a 'sleeper' hidden amongst the great movie related stuff coming from SS and WETA along with the anticipation of The Hobbit.

Thats true. With the game not coming out until November I doubt it does.

It very easily could be and as we march ever so closer to The Hobbit item sales should pick up.

I think one thing that bothers me a little bit is the TBD edition size. I know I can place an order and cancel with no penalty, but I just hope they keep to a small ES. I don't want to get into the whole collecting vs. investing argument, but I don't want there to be 750+ of this thing floating around.

just my .02

Good point, I never PO anything with an NRD til an edition size is determined.

There is no NRD for this. So lots of people who are on the fence will probably order now and decide later. There will be cancellations when they announce the ES, and cancellations when they start processing the orders and charging the cards. But I believe that those who receive this statue will be very, very happy with it.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of tbd on the ES. I don't expect the ES of this to be that large and wouldn't be shocked if it was announced tomorrow night. I do expect it to be around the 300-500 mark.

Ah, good to know, yeah then it probably will sell out and go back for second chance again when it ships.

I'm not big on TBD ES's [though they're still about a 1000X better than OE's] and I no longer order any NRD items until the ES is set, but seeing as there is no NRD with this one, I'll be ordering today. If the ES is too high I'll just cancel my order prior to shipping and pick it up cheaper elsewhere.

Not sure if this is a newb question, but why so much concern on ES's. I mean if I want something Im buying and dont care what the ES is. Maybe this is something I dont understand.

Because you get so many folks now who order for whatever reason (hoping to flip, caught up in the moment, etc.) that when shipping time comes the ES has been driven up higher than it should. That has hurt a lot of pieces and lines over the last several years and why SS has gone to the ES announced with an NRD (on most items). This way when you order you're willing to put in some cash to show your seriousness.

I think a lot of collectors buy these statues as 'investments' rather than simply because they enjoy them. I don't really get it either, but to each his own. :dunno

If I like an item, edition size makes no difference to me. It does make a difference when it comes down to where you decide to buy from though. When there's a huge edition size you can usually find a better deal with a little looking. Whatever the ES of the Snow Troll is, I'll still be going direct from SS so I can keep racking up the reward points to eventually apply to the RWOS.

You would be incorrect then. As I said above what happened was a mix of reasons (examples used in previous post) and the ES went up. When it came time to ship mass cancellations would be made because the ES was higher than it should be thus having even more folks giving the axe, because they knew they could get it cheaper on ebay or whatever. This happened enough with other lines that they got the boot, SS was left with lots of left over stock, or if you ever HAD to sell you couldn't give it away.

No, it comes down to buying smart or buying stupid. High ES's are a sure fire guarantee LOTR collectibles will not retain or hold their initial retail value. That being the case, why on earth would anyone want to pay full retail when they could get it cheaper simply by waiting?

Now, I'm not saying anyone who buys this directly from SS is 'buying stupid' as those individuals will at least have the security of knowing their statue is guaranteed. And there is also the very distinct possiblity that this statue never loses it's value in which case some of us may end up scrambling to get one before it's value rises.....but I have bought too many of the previous SSW line at prices upwards of 80% below retail, and SS LSB's and dio's at upwards of 50% off retail to be willing to buy any non-excl. LOTR products at retail when I perceive the ES to be too high.

I'm not going to lie to you.....I prefer lower ES's. The ES, regardless of how high, is not going to prevent me from buying an item I want, but it will dictate when and where I buy it. I have saved 1000's over the year's by being patient, and no matter how spectatcular this statue is, if the ES is too high I'll be picking it up elsewhere.....esp since there is no excl.

Ok, I get it. Thanks for the info all. Yeah depending on how much Im saving in most cases I just order from SS so I at least get the rewards points and the fact that you can flex. If it wasnt for flex I probably wouldnt have much.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that a big reason I order direct is Flex-Pay. It makes it a little easier to stay in the game.

Only for the flex pay option i would have had to pass on a lot of cool pieces :lecture

You sure?

Remember that Exclusive Snow Troll Statue will be available for Pre-Order through the Sideshow Newsletter on Thursday, August 4th, 2011

That is a good point. I never really considered the FlexPay option as I've never used it, but I can see where having that option would be handy. Though, since we know the average pre-order to delivery time on these statues is about 8 month's I don't see where that's any different from putting $40/month aside in a separate bank acct. for each statue ordered. :dunno
