Between 2008 and 2011 there has been massive inflation + HT probably pays their sculptors and engineers a lot more now than they did then.

So Expecting Tumbler price of $400 is unrealistic. Which is why I was thinking $500-600. But $950 is crazy.

I agree Void, but this looks like a way simpler piece of work compared to the tumbler. The sheer number of components on that warranted the price IMO. Here I'm not seeing it.:dunno

LOL $950!? kidding me? i was pissed about the iron man gantry pricing but this takes the cake.
Well it stands to reason to me that if something as relatively simple and small as the gantry costs $350, Batmobile's gonna cost quite a bit more than that due to size and complexity. I would be surprised if it was any less than $700 MSRP.

i miss the days hot toys still competed with medicom and sideshow and were less ridiculous with pricing.

Well I don't miss the days when there wasn't a HT '89 Batmobile!

But no I know what you mean, although I'm sure the price won't be that extraordinary. I guess it's all relative though.

This is a fair point, IMO. Really, no one can compete with them at this point. So, they can set their price and jack it up at will. And others (read: Sideshow) seem to be following suit because collectors get accustomed to paying so much with HT. I know, I know, oil costs are up, Chinese labor is up, etc. etc. But there's something else behind a move from $70-80 figures at Sideshow to $160 figures in such a short period of time.

It's now, more than ever, where collectors really have to set limitations on the variety of figures that can be bought. At $140-160, I used to buy everything - IM, Batman, Blade, Terminator - basically everything I thought looked good.

Now, I've strictly gone to Batman, as I know that these prices are just going up and up and keeping up with EVERYTHING is next to impossible (not only price, but from a size standpoint too - where are all these figures going to go without making a room look overcrowded with random figures?)

There's something else behind it?? How about demand? How we all start foaming at the mouth for glimpse of the latest release. Or how aftermarket supports ~100% increase in sale. they charge this much because we pay it. The dealer charges the junkie as much as he can.

That pretty much sums it up.

The only solution is competition, which seems a long way off. Therefore, we are slaves to HT for the foreseeable future.

$350 for the gantry is crazy. Absolutely crazy. I can't believe people were going out of their minds over the price of The Enterbay GOD set, which included a figure, 2 headsculpts, a large wooden diorama, working metal studio lights, wooden chair and a load of extras. For 250-300$?

What are you getting in the gantry for $350?

I'm tellin ya, someone in HT has decided its time to reap whatever rewards they can by screwing their fanbase. Me included.

$950 and I think I'd be out... I wants it bad; but there has to be a reasonable limit and that is past it for me.

But I'll wait and see what the official word is; I have a feeling even HT might not know the price yet as this is still in development.

Yup, they have gotten greedy and now we will all pay for our undying support of their products. I'm lucky at the moment, I can afford this stuff, but like the next man I don't like getting screwed over, thats what this is starting to feel like.
:(:mad::(

At some point though they will out-price themselves. I think even $700 is pushing it and I probably wont get it without selling some of my stuff off at that price point. If it is almost a grand? I doubt any of us but the very well off will buy it. (to those very well off people, wouldn't you like a nice display case for your ginormous batmobile? see link in signature lol) Frankly, with the economy the way it is, I'm surprised they are releasing so much at once. If they staggered, they would sell more and its not like people wont wait. There is a limit, its just that fan boys are psychotic so we have a higher limit than most lol. Even with licensing fees spread out across the whole line, figures included, plastic is still relatively cheap, labor in china is still relatively cheap, R&D on what is a basic car is relatively cheap. Whats really scary, is say they produce about 2000 of these, they probably cost about $125 to make.

Scale does not equate to price.
Thats whats crazy here & with Avatar.
Making it bigger does not necessarily mean it should cost exponentially more.

Otherwise this would cost 4 grand.

That's made out of literally about $5 worth of plastic if that, which is injection molded and snap together and requires no paint. I could make that. I could not make the batmobile.
