Yeah. Btw someone post something in there.:D :lol
It might seem like one of those pointless spamy threads, but I think it's a great idea.. Months in the future, it has several hundred pages. Each page containing tons of various Predator-related information.. :drool

Maybe it'd have been a better idea to call this thread a Catalogue of Predator Jungle Hunter models/toys. The use of the word 'compare' immediately invites the usual wars right from the start; although I'd wager they're inevitable anyway.

Clearly that's not the intent though, with the first post exploiting all the flaws of the other pieces while polesquatting NECA's and McFarlane's superiority. Tossing in a pic of a dio to defend a failed attempt, 6 pages afterward, doesn't change that fact. With you and Blade spotting it early on, that reaffirms it! :lol

:dunno From the first post:

Some problems of Neca:

Fine. I see. Everybody gets several "error" pics and NECA gets a single one addressing a measly 2 of the issues. I added McFarlane's name in the last post too. :lol :monkey1

I'm with Nam, here. Yeah, you specified some small errors, but you definitely tore HT's attempt a new one. Deserved or not, the final in-hand product pics you chose of the masked head are clearly shot from a bad angle and perhaps even skewd, almost like the helmet wasn't attached properly. I've actually owned the HT P1 and can safely say that while the mask was inaccurate, it was nothing close to what is shown in those pictures.

Aside from that, the stock HT bio helmet can be modified:

You might be thinking "Well, if it needs modification, then it doesn't count." If that's the case, remember that the NECA mask also needs some modding to fix the visor gap. It's not as big an issue, but there's a definite bias to this thread, perhaps too subtle for some to see. I read the first post and, after seeing the comparison pics (plus the endless praise of NECA and bashing of HT on the 1/4 thread that you've done -- and you have, whether it was on the head sculpt, the helmet, or the body), I doubt you've ever owned an HT Predator before.
Not asking you to open your heart to a new company or anything, but be more fair in your judgement. I personally prefer the NECA in terms of sculpt myself, so what I'm writing right now is purely a response to the thread itself.
By the way, the 1/4 P1 pics you uploaded are the prototypes shown at Toy Fair this year, not the final products (the plastic is fully-painted on them).

The long and short of it, as I see it, is this: NECA version does appear more accurate to the film. However. . .there are definite trade-offs in quality. What EvilFace says is true--HT is very valuable, because it is a quality piece, despite its flaws, and folks are willing to pay for quality, and are willing to accept design inaccuracies toward that end. It is also very awesome looking, and the differences aren't big enough to bother me, but your mileage may vary there. I've got a bunch of Hot Toys figures, but the P1 is still one of my favorites.

I can't accept cheaper quality stuff anymore, so I'm not interested in the NECA figures, and some others feel the same.

If you feel the likeness of NECA makes it more desirable than the Cinemaquette or Hot Toys figure, then power to you.

In terms of accuracy, Neca is better. But in terms of paint job, quality, accessories, etc, the others (McFarlane excluded) are heads and shoulders above Neca.

Neca feels like a cheap kiddy toy, but good for those who can't afford the high end Predators.

Never has subjectivity been more in evidence than this HT vs NECA P1 debate. I've seen exactly the same criticism levelled at both from the two sides. 'Looks like a kiddy toy'

This. :lecture:lecture:lecture

Person 1 sees this comment and they respond by posting amazing pictures of the "kiddy toy." Person 2 disregards it and continues referring to it this way. Person 1 gets angry at Person 2. Person 2 gets angry at Person 1. It's inevitable (no matter if the argument starts with actual reason or pure trolling).

Some people are talking based on what they truly see, some people are talking based on prejudice, but either way, this is why comparisons can't be made. Heh, even if there was such a thing as legitimate evidence (which isn't possible when you're comparing apples to oranges), one side would still ignore the other and something would eventually be stirred up.

That's the problem. Both are fruit and both have their advantages and disadvantages, but outside of being fruit, they're not comparable. Here it's the same. Every single piece in the OP's post perfectly suits it's given market and is a great representation of value and quality for $$$ spent (low-end Preds included). However, when you compare them against one another, especially with a bias, you're basically walking around in your undies and making yourself look like a fool. The fact that high-end and low-end collectors are in agreement here says all that needs to be said. :huh

Both ____ing suck.
All Predator figures are trash and need to be burned.

Except this one of course..

Afterall, he is the ULTIMATE PREDATOR!!!! :horror

Believe it or not, I friggin' loved that thing. When you compare it to the Medicom Predator figures, that sculpt is actually crazy good. If only he had the same kind of articulation as some of the other 12"-scale figures at the time...

It'd be nice to see what a good repaint could do for him. I know Les turned his into a P2 Elder, but someone should go for the P1 scheme.

There's also the repaint they did for the AVP box set (I think it doesn't come with the disc, though) which might be a better foundation since the base color is lighter.

I dunno, when Kenner took themselves seriously, their stuff wasn't half-bad at the time. I might even buy the box set version to do some practice on.

:goodpost:There's just something about the high end Hot Toys figures. They ooze quality.:clap

Although the NECA 1/4 is very well done and is a step in the right direction for NECA.:clap

Man, I remember finding that thing at TRU in like '95, and thinking how awesome it was. I was in the Army at the time, and had him and a bunch of Spawn figures all decked out in my room. Came a barracks inspection and I had all these Sgts and Officers that were supposed to be inspecting rooms checking out my collection and being awed by it :D

Awwwwwww the memories :lol
