Well they say this:

Right? Well the Mark IV sculpt is a newly sculpted head with authentic likeness of Robert Downey Jr. The helmet is newly developed since they aren't using MK III parts. It does have a removable mask. They are being completely honest from a certain point of view. They never said that the sculpt is directly created for the MK VI we are just assuming that. It looks good and in the end for me that is all that matters.

This point is valid :lecture

To me that was a different situation because they showed a whole new sculpt and touted it only to have it stopped because of likeness issues and then didn't even try to sculpt something new or fix it just threw the old head in.

You're right it's a slightly different situation this time because the Mark IV sculpt was not helmeted while the Mark II sculpt was when it was reused for the Mark VI. But I think it's an inconsequential difference. In all likelihood it's the same mould just pared down to fit the helmet. Granted, until I see a side-by-side comparison of the Mark IV and VI RDJ faces it's not 100% proven that they are the exact same sculpt (Some people say they notice differences).

Good thing there wasn't any leaked pics this time like with the BDMIII:

^ You guys remember that.

This figure does look fantastic. HT should be patting themselves on the back for creating something that is essentially only marginally different than the MK IV but looks good enough to want both.

People are not complaining just to complain. It's a perfectly valid critique if you take the past into consideration. There's a sense lingering that Hot Toys did want to include a brand new sculpt with the Mark VI. They had the same intention with the BD Mark III but pulled back when likeness negotiations fell through. They are doing the exact same thing as last time, only this time they have the luxury of fanboys not getting a leaked glimpse of the prototype in-helmet sculpt like we did when those scans of Milk Magazine leaked the open-mouthed Tony sculpt last year.

If they had intended to be truly honest about it, why didn't they release an official backstage photo of the MVI helmeted sculpt at all before it released?

That being said, I like the MIV sculpt enough that its reuse on the Mark VI isn't a deal breaker like it was with the MII sculpt on the BD MIII.

The voice of reason.

That's all I'm saying, gentlemen.

Well, then I'm glad HT wasn't "honest" this time around. We'll get the fig faster. Couldn't care any less about a new sculpt, especially with the last one being damn impressive.

It does look good. Different enough from the Mark IV both in the movie and figure that having both will kick ass. For me personally I'm stoked to have all the versions of the suit so far just to see the evolution of the suit.

True. But a large portion of the blame can be shifted on consumers expectations. Despite perhaps slightly shady dealings on HT part in not revealing the sculpt, they never solicited it would be a totally different sculpt from the mark iv. Vague marketing....

All this talk of the VI being so great has upset the poor IV:(

..let's not forget which figure came first:)
