Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

From the latest Q&A, sounds like the LSBs and dios also now fall into the category of "on hold", as Sideshow states they are focusing their energies on PF and statues.

We have no new Lord of the Rings Dioramas or Legendary Scale Busts up for pre-order at the moment. I am wondering if the Lord of the Rings Diorama and Legendary Scale Bust lines are going to see further releases, or are they on hold/on pause/being reconsidered/being retooled/finished/in recess/suspended/on hiatus/taking a breather or any other variation of the above? Thanks!

A little of all of the above is true. Our current focus is on the Premium Format and Statue lines, and we’re going to be blurring the line a bit between the Statue and Diorama series.

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

Just read that as well. The line about "blurring the line a bit between the Statue and Diorama series" is interesting...perhaps multiple statues (*cough* HOBBITS *cough*) in a single "comiquette"?

Could be interesting, can't wait to see what they do!!

No, wait. It's not Weta. I must hate it..... grrr......

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

I used the spooktacular opportunity to ask about possible upcoming Premium Formats to finish the fellowship. I am hoping that I'll get at least one response about Boromir, Sam, Merry and Pippin, or Gimli!

I wonder if the merge of the Diorama and Maquette lines might also be a way to introduce some of the larger scale creatures, as well as having two or more smaller characters on a single base.

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

SS-We will be officially revealing the Morgul Lord PF very soon, and we hope to unveil the next LOTR PF a little after SDCC. If all goes according to plan, there will be a ‘big’ pre-order opportunity in early to mid 2011, for a product scheduled to ship late in the year. It may seem a ways off, but we’re digging into some serious and ambitious undertakings…

Suddenly doesnt feel so far away now :)

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

...later this year...seems far away to me considering the year is just starting.

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

Well, the announcement and pre-order for the "ambitious" LOTR PF was supposed to be at the end of 2010/early 2011 to ship at the end of 2011. I am okay with a long lead time on a larger scale LOTR PF, especially if it is the much-rumored and heavily hinted at Ringwraith on Steed!

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

Yeah, I'd wager quite a lot on it being a RWOS PF. Talk about making an impact.

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

RWOS PF can't come soon enough! :rock
I think the end of the year will do me fine...gives me a chance to get the funds together.

It will be quite an expensive piece, I should think.

I'm so glad they are doing one though, could be fantastic.

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

So the big LOTR Premium Format reveal that was supposed to preview/debut towards the end of 2010 came and went. The last of the 12 days of Sideshow is Star Wars (yet again) and no Premium Format news. Looking back at the Q&A it looks like I (and maybe some others) may have been too eager, and news will be coming early to mid 2011. I hope we see something during the time around Toy Fair, but some little bits of information on new products with some regularity in the newsletters would keep me happy!

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

Yeah, but during that 12 days we got basically shown/announced 3 more maquettes.

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

we did get to see the three maquettes, but they have also already been somewhat "confirmed" with production design sketches or pictures of the piece in production. There was a lot of chatter here (and on the Sideshow Site in the comments) about a second LOTR day that would feature the Ringwraith PF, that is really all I am commenting on for that!

It has been nice to see what has been shown during the 12 days of Sideshow, but nothing was really truly "news." I think we all had Legolas, Gimli, Arwen and the not shown Boromir on our radar previous to this event.

I know this marketing push is more for the casual customer, rather than the message board folks, I just hope that Sideshow is on a little more regular basis for LOTR news. It felt like last year they really limited themselves to releases around high profile events like SDCC, ToyFair or Spooktacular, and it would be great if they doled out information/sneak peeks/Ask Sideshow Answers on a more regular basis.

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

Yeah, we saw sketches but seeing hard evidence is always great. Sure seeing a RWOS PF would be awesome but I expect that news like that won't stay hidden forever. I hope we see more news about products besides those events as well.

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

Given the slow trickle that is LOTR, I wonder how long it will be before Legolas and Arwen go up for order - and more importantly how much of a gap there will be in between them. Arwen is a potential purchase for me (Legolas and Gimli won't be), and it makes me speculate the timeframe for these and the PFs; which are my main LOTR collecting focus.

Oh well, a slow trickle is a trickle indeed. :lol

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

The actual pieces in production did look amazing, and confirmation that ANY LOTR is moving forward is good news for me!! I really like the Arwen, as the outfit chosen is my favorite and I am glad that she also carries Hadhafang!

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

Legolas I believe is supposed to be this month. If I remember correctly or I thought I read that anyways.

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

Arwen could be a purchase. Not totally sure honestly but I'm leaning that way. I do love the look of these maquettes. For me personally they just have a really good look to them.

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

Sorry guys, but I'm afraid I'm the guy responsible for the high hopes. SS did tell me to watch for a LOTR "feature" during the 12 Days of Christmas and I somehow got it in my head we would be seeing a video. :cuckoo:
It looks like the sneak peek glimpses of Arwen, Legolas and Gimli were that "feature". I agree, nothing we saw was new, but I do think there is a huge difference between seeing a conceptual drawing and a completed statue. And obviously that fantastic looking group shot has done a great job in revitalizing interest in a line that many thought was dead.

On a sidenote, I received a package from SS the other day, attached with a note in which they thanked me for candidly expressing my opinions and for sticking with the LOTR licence, during the good times and the bad. There are certainly times when I am extremely frustrated with SS, but I do love their products, and I can think of no other company [ collectible or otherwise] that gives back more to it's loyal fanbase. Thank you SS! :bow

You are correct Josh, according to Dusty, Legolas is supposed to be a Jan. pre-order.
