Re: Well they finally got me

sucks dude. i've been in your shoes. for me it wasnt as much the stuff taken as it was the invading my ____ing castle.............low life bastards.

at the end of the day the family is ok & insurance covers a lot of loss so :hi5:

more people should invest in home security systems. usually reduces your insurance and qualifies for some kind of write off

Re: Well they finally got me

sucks man, hope it all works out for ya.
first thing i'd be buying is new toothpaste and tooth brushes.:monkey3

Re: Well they finally got me

I plan on getting a security system soon. Not that we have a lot of break ins, but I think things like this are just going to get worse.

Sorry about you losing your things. The family is safe and that's what really matters.

Was anything of your's numbered? I'd be watching eBay to see if they are stupid and sell something that you know is your's.

Re: Well they finally got me

Dude this sucks so much. Glad you and the family are ok though. So I've considered getting insurance to cover the collectibles and stuff, but what exactly do they cover when it comes time to make a claim? Do they cover what you paid, or do they pay what it's worth??
For instance, say you had a Doom PF Excl. stolen. No way you will find one for a reasonable price. Would you get stuck paying for the difference?

i'd like to know that too. and i'm guessing regular home owners insurance won't cover the collectibles right? don't u need a specific type on ins for them?

anyway so sorry to hear that TC

When I got my statues individually insured they are insured for original retail price. I would have to get them appraised if I wanted a market value coverage.

Re: Well they finally got me

Here is an example of an issue that can happen when posting our collections on here. Showing everything we have clears up what they might target. In this case they mainly took common things that have value (TV, camera). Out of a 100 people there is always one bad jealous apple. Chances are the people that did this you already know.

Re: Well they finally got me

ive never been sure at how or what insurance covers. I know our house with pocessions are insured, but how does it work? I have kept all my paypal and Sideshow, and all other collectible receipts saved on my aol account since i started collecting, as well as updated pics of my collection for insurance purposes, but how exactly does it work if your house burns down or is robbed, etc?

Re: Well they finally got me

Bummer man, so sorry to hear it.

An alarm system couldn't be a better purchase, it only costs about $40-75 a month and while not flawless it will at least alert authorities and neighbors to something being up.

I have an alarm, video surveillance, two dogs (boxer and American bulldog) ... oh and firearms; bring it!

Not sure with homeowners but I rent and made sure my individual statues were covered. I have each listed on my policy. It is nice cause accidental damage is also covered.

Re: Well they finally got me

I was burlagrized last night. It was probably a matter of time since Im always getting high end stuff delivered to my house. Out of all the high end stuff I have, guess what collectibles these idiots took?

My Sideshow Silver Surfer statue
My Takara Prime, Thundercracker and Starscream (left Megs and Grimlock lol)
Out of 60 or so 25th Anni Joes, they took a handful of Joes (incl 2 Snake Eyes) and left all the Cobra figs untouched.
They had my Sideshow 1:1 Spiderman bust out on the floor and had the glass door open to my ROTS 1:1 Vader bust.
They took a custom McFarlane Jason Taylor figure that I had made like 4 years ago and McFarlane Dan Marino figure. Left the rest of McFarlane's untouched.

We're not sure if my wife pulled up and scared them away or they just run out of room and time.

Besides the collectibles, the scumbags took all my finacee's jewelry incl family heirlooms. Flat Panel 46" TV, Sony Vaio Computer, Digital Camera, all my son's family DVDs and all of my Blu Rays except Gladiator. Left the rest of my 400+ DVD's untouched.

They apparently packed some of this stuff in 2 of my suitcases (had a 3rd empty one pulled out) and took off.

It was really odd, they obviously had no idea about value and took their "favorites." Their jaw probably dropped when they opened the door to my room. Honestly, it couldve (and shouldve) been much worse.

All I gotta say is THANK THE MAKER MY FAMILY IS SAFE. (And for insurance...) :rotfl

Let this be a lesson to the naive like I was, get insurance (which I have) and get a burglar alarm (which I will have installed tomorrow).

Just found that part hilarious about Gladiator, sorry. Good thing you got insurance and that your family is safe!

Re: Well they finally got me

man that really sucks, but glad to hear you and your family are safe. and yeah, a dog is a good choice besides getting an alarm installed.

Re: Well they finally got me

Your wife must be devastated about loosing the family heirlooms.

Sorry to hear. Though, I am glad to hear that most of your amazing collection is still intact.

Just a word of caution, how can you set up an alarm system with a new dog walking around the house?

Re: Well they finally got me

Some of those items are numbered right? At least the Silver Surfer right? I'd watch craiglist, ebay, classifieds, etc and see if your number happens to come up. Or if you see any Silver Surfers on ebay in your area that don't have the number shown/listed, it would be worth asking the #. If you can track them down through one of the numbered collectibles, you may be able to get them and hopefully some of your stuff back!

Re: Well they finally got me

Dang. That sucks. Glad it wasn't too bad, though, and that your family is alright.

Wow. That is pricey! For us, the alarm was around $250 for the year. Then, the insurance company reimbursed us $65 for having it, so it's actually less than $200. I just tested it for the first time today, and folks will definitely know if someone breaks in after about 40 seconds. Should be a pretty good deterrent I hope.

Re: Well they finally got me

Check your craiglist area immediately for possible sales.

That is how my boss caught the guys that broke into our facility.

Re: Well they finally got me

I'm keeping track of my edition numbers now in case they show up in ebay when i get burglarized.

My alarm has two different modes - stay: which senses any windows or doors opening and glass shattering; and away: it has all the same features as stay but includes a motion detector as well.
