Reason they're promoting it that way is that's all it's got. It doesn't even have "highest grossing horror movie of all time." They had to combine the first and all 6 of it's irrelevant sequels to amount for anything. I think in years to come, Saw along with Hostle will be regarded as the films that jumpstarted the mainstream torture porn frenzy. Other than that, nada.
Well said there namster.

BTW...
according to Box Office Mojo...
as franchises, here's the list:

1- Friday the 13th $380.6

2- Nightmare on Elm Street $370.5

3- Saw $370.2

4- Halloween $308.5

5- Scream $293.6

6- The Exorcist $291.9

7- Final Destination $220.9

And this isn't even considering adjustment for inflation...

Seeing that actually makes me even more annoyed that they canceled the Friday the 13th sequel.

That's the irony of it. While the first was a remake, the second was set to be completely original and based in the snow.

Yeah i know, that would have looked awesome, seeing crystal lake covered in snow. Oh well, perhaps they'll go back to it at some point. I cant see the franchise suddenly stopping after all these years. The world just wouldnt be the same without continuous Friday 13th films every few years. :lol

Given the company that did the first is a professional remake company, they probably panicked and were like :panic: "OH NOES, IT'S ORIGINAL, WTF DO WE DO?!?!" :panic:

I dont get how the most successful is strictly determined by how much money a film grossed?? I think a successful film can be one that does well in the box or maybe not.. but the popularity that it builds over time reflects how many times it has and continues to be viewed.

As Kuzeh pointed out, when looking at the Horror franchises, it didn't gross the most according to Box Office Mojo. Which makes me think the article is just a BS opinion piece from a torture porn fanatic. The type of blind fanboy who, rather than research his article, probably just had trouser creampies after buying a soiled pair of Tobin's chonies on ebay and sucked the stains out of them.

Yea I got that and Friday the 13th is one of my faves but theres still some horror flicks that arent on that list that I still perfer to watch. Like Dawn of the dead and Night of the living dead as examples.

I agree. I think that they're superior movies (certainly in story and message), but while the audience is loyal, it's still a niche genre. Though hopefully with Zombieland breaking box office records for zombie flicks (Worldwide: $102,297,496), it'll bring more interest to Romero's series - that is assuming he doesn't kill his own fan base/franchise with self-made knockoffs like Survival.

Zombieland was great!! Bill Murray was hilarious :lol Only thing is when they introduce that kind of comedic element in a scary movie its stops being a horror flick ...for me at least. Between that and all the "rule # __" moments I was laughing more than I should have.:lol

Someone needs to make the first resident evil in the mansion a movie.
An actual horror though with atmosphere. Not an action film.

See, as much as I would've liked that, I think I would've been bored by the time they get back to the mansion and have to go through the whole thing again, with the movie turning from horror to SciFi with the introduction of the hunters, giant moth, etc...
