Watched SW: Attack of the Clones a couple days ago, didnt really watch it just flipped over to it a few times, and what I thought was good CGI at the time looked absolutely horrible after watching Avatar. HORRIBLE! Yoda looked so caca. :(

And I dont think it will falter once it hits BD. I dont think the 3D was key to the movie looking great.

just came back from my 3rd time seeing the movie.

I cant get enogh of this movie.
Going next week with my wife to IMAX !

Wow, I was up until almost 3:30 last night reading through the first half of Cameron's original script treatment for Avatar from about 10 years ago (you can still find it online if you're resourceful enough). I hate the fluffy tailed lemur versions of the Na'vi (thank God he changed their design) but so far I prefer almost all the differences in the scriptment over the film.

Like when Jake (originally named Josh) first wheels down the ramp after arriving at Pandora and enormous sentry guns on the colony wall instantly go off and obliterate some giant beast from the forest that came too close to the structure. As he's about to go inside he hears the guns firing again and thinks "what the hell have I gotten myself into?". It really made their fortification seem to be in constant danger of being overrun.

I also like the extended scenes of him figuring out how to use his new Avatar vocal chords, hands, and legs. Its a much more emotional and gradual transition as opposed to the "This is great!" and leap off the table in the movie.

Jake also meets a doped up and blubbering scientist on base who used to be an Avatar controller until his Avatar was ripped apart and eaten alive by a beast called a slinth. The scientist felt himself "die" and went insane. That would have nicely established the danger of losing your Avatar in the wild. In the movie I wasn't really sure if its like the Matrix (you die if your Avatar dies) or if you just wake up. I realize that Cameron wanted to get the story moving and the scenes as he filmed them still work but I really hope he shot some of those scenes from the sciptment and is holding them for an extended edition later on.

I can't wait to finish it.

OK, after researching -- or trying -- to get a straight answer about about seeing this in RealD 3D or IMAX 3D experience, I can't seem to tell which is better. RealD is the newer technology, but IMAX is bigger. More headaches with IMAX apparently, but you get "that pop-out" effect while RealD is more about depth of field.

Is all that true? Has anyone here seen it in both formats, and if so can you recmmend the best experience?

Ok I finally saw it on an IMAX screen and .......I was disappointed.
After seeing it in crystal clear Real-D on an XD cinema display, I was expecting the imax experience to be even better. We did sit too close-it made it very hard to focus and really gave way to severe eyestain, but despite that I noticed a lot of ghosting and much of the film was not sharp-very fuzzy and out of focus or blurry unless it was where the camera wanted you to look.

I know it would have been better if we had sat further back but I was surprised that I enjoyed real-D 3d better! The image is so much clearer and you can really enjoy all the little things on the sides of the frame.

I also noticed a lot more dialogue and effects I missed the first time around.

So based on my experience-if you can find a RAVE theater or one showing it in Real-D on a big screen that would be the way to go. I also noticed the glasses at IMAX are different. Each lens has a different hue to it-not anaglyph but different than real-D. The 3d does pop out more rather than giving that depth that real-d does. I had a headache after seeing it that close and my eyes just didnt seem to want to adjust to the 3D.

So in this case-I preferred the digital experience over the film

BTW-it is now 85th all time but if it just makes a few mill more it jumps way up the list. It has only been out 10 days and already has worldwide $615,000,000

Its 47th all time worldwide, its 85th domestic- but if it makes 100 mill more it jumps to 32nd- and that may happen in just week 2. It is climbing fast and keep in mind it is slated to run for 3 months.

I have no idea when I'm going to be able to see this. I have to go out of town and the weather is so crappy. I was hoping to see it tomorrow after my doctor's appt. but it's been snowing all night and it still is. It's supposed to be bad all week. I was hoping I'd get to see it before I go back to work on Monday. :(

Military seeking new resources, invades foreign land; not that hard :p Storyline has been done to death.

There's a huge difference between hearing the story before, and being able to write it yourself... that was the original comment...

The one thing that bothers me is that this movie won't be as good on Blu-Ray without the 3D effects. I was truly impressed by the effective use of 3D.

I agree!
