Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

My wife decided to pick up tickets for a local midnight showing... so guess I'm seeing it sooner than I expected and I'll be dragging ass tomorrow at work :lol

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

i think you make good points, but I hardly think Good Vs Evil is "tired". I think the anti-hero is actually getting more tired as it tries to remind us of real life...which in the long run I think people will get bored of as we have enough confliction in our own lives. gve is classic and will always be so.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Yes, you should. :read

What he said. I picked up the first one from the library out of pure curiosity to see what the big deal was and this was just before release of the first movie. I got hooked. By the 3d book, I said the heck with it and went out and bought the series up to that point (book 4 or 5 I think); this series was a "keeper."

I pressed my hubby to read the first book, then my son as well. They were both: can't believe you're recommending a kids' book. They also got hooked. What enchanted me from the beginning was her play with language; I found myself chuckling a lot. Then each successive book became darker and more mature as the kids started growing up and their frames of reference and perspective broadened.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

I'm going to this on Saturday with the whole family, but since I'm off work tommorrow, I decided to grab tickets for the first showing tomorrow morning with my brother. So I too will be seeing this earlier than I originally thought!

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

3 more hours and I have to drive all the way out to Gateway.

Don't you love reserved seating? It totally beats the days of standing in line for a minimum of 2 hours to get a good seat. Now you just got to be quick to buy the tickets when they go on sale :rock

Have fun!

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Saw it...

Better than the last certainly. Pretty with some nice camera movement but uneven, oddly paced and edited. Scenes by themselves worked byt the narrative flow was all wonky. David Yates blows. He can't even begin to approach the elegance and grace Alfonso Cuaron achieved with PoA. It was nice to have Steve Kloves back writing though many of my favorite moment were left out.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Just got back from seeing it... overall a really good movie. I think they did a great job of transferring the story to film.

Only really big issue for me:

Yup. The ending was clumsy. No real problem with them nixing the battle (some kind of fight would've been nice) but the last bits were rushed and could have been much more powerful. The first 1/3 was even clunkier and messy, imo. Thank goodness for Jim Broadbent. Slughorn stole the whole film. Gambon's Dumbledore was better than GoF but still not fantastic. His big drinking scene was a waste and much more intense in the book. It felt like they were really pulling the punches for the kids.

So it's like OotP in which the scenes feel like footnotes and the big stuff just sort of walks by?

Maybe the next one will be better since they're doing it in two parts.

Maybe.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

I want to see the movie but in Greece is going to hit the theaters at 25th of August .I don`t know why they decided to delay it so much .:banghead

Not entirely, I think that this movie did a much better job of translating the book to film... but for some reason they chose to strip down some of the more key scenes from the book.

EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT TOO!!

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

My wife (who hasn't read the books) said she felt similarly, which I took to mean it wasn't just my foreknowledge that impacted how I viewed the movie.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

I'm heading to see this right now. The local paper gave it 3 1/2 out of 4 stars so it should be quite good. They aren't easily pleased. If they like something, then just about everyone likes it.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

While not related to THIS film, John Williams MAY return to do the score for Deathly Hallows :rock:rock:rock:rock

Thats awesome. I like the guy who is doing it now too though. :dunno

I liked. Per Dumbledore I think if D's death were any less subdued it would have been dangerously close to cheese. I thought they approached it very well. I also thought the pacing was much better than the last one and I never got the feeling like they were trying to cram too much in.

I would give it 3.5/4
