Chris Howes' Sculptural Creations

That's not really true. In several cases, the items were already done and just needed to be cast. And in other cases, there were in-progress pictures available. I definitely will be more cautious in the future, but I've commissioned dozens of artists for things and have never had a problem up until now.

Quite frankly when all that started to happen it mystified the hell out of me. I just didn’t understand it.

The main reason was that he was offering them at a reduced price if you "preordered." It didn't seem that unreasonable at the time (obviously if you commission a custom sculpt from someone, you don't generally get to see what it looks like ahead of time). It's the same idea as the people who got together to commission an Ada sculpt.

This whole incident reminds me of a phrased mentioned in the Batman movie:

"In deseparation they turned to a man they fully didn't understand.''

I believe that ppl were attractive to Howe's boostin' of being a professional sculptor hence they thought that he would be do things in a timely manner. I mean, if you are lookin for someone to sculpt you whatever, would you go to someone who claims to be a professional sculptor for over a decade or would you go to somebody who has 2 years experience and never had any of his products sold in stores.

I don't know if this was intentional but it appears that Howes either was to arrogrant to see that taking too many projects is bad or intentional knew and would somehow find a way out when things get bad, which it seems it has

Don't know about you guys, but I find the "I am not commin to the boards because ppl are complainin" weak. That is like 2nd graders telling their friends they were going to let them their gameboy but said they were being too whatever even though they really didn't want his/her friends borrow it.

If complaints are what Howes not postin on the baords, then wouldn't be smartto get thigns over with and do what people want him to accomplish?

I believe his pitch was way 2 good 2 be true; Whenever l read this topic, I remember that one simpsons epi where some outsider sells Springfield a shoddy monorail.

Spenser really deserves the apprecition of the whole community, the only saving grace of this debacle is that people will at least still be able to get some of the heads there was obvious interest in.

chris howes is a criminal! he's not an artist with too much backed up work. simply put this man is a criminal and should be put to justice.

I'm sure I'll get eaten alive for this, but , here goes...

For awhile, I was trying to give Chris the benefit of the doubt. After all, I've had orders from other customizers who took a long time (much longer than Chris) and only gave sparing updates on the projects. At this point, I believe Chris needs to return money to those who want it or start shipping more product. As intense at has gotten, I do think it was a big mistake for Chris to avoid the forum altogether. I think that what has happened with is unfortunate for everyone and I REALLY think it has damaged this community in some ways.

I remember before I joined the forum that the Freaksboard had a reputation for getting a little intense at times. As some of you know (Gatackfc) I like to debate every now and again. However, my primary experience with this community has been extremely positive and I REALLY enjoy coming and chatting with you guys... even when we don't agree (Gatackfc).

Unfortunately, this whole "Chris Howes situation" has really been an intensely negative force on the board. I think people have every right to be upset and be able to air their grievances. However, everyday now, when I come to visit the customs section, the first four or five threads are Chris Howes threads essentially making the same complaints over and over again. Several people have been mauled in these threads just because they had a different opinion of how to handle the situation. It's fine if you have a legitimate complaint, it just sucks that there are several threads basically just devoted to grievances. Guys who are tring to do business responsibly (Les, Josh, Small Studios etc.) are constantly getting bumped by the latest "down with Howes" comments.

I'd like to suggest we merge everything under two separate threads, one for actual updates (receipt of items, e-mail updates from Chris) and one where people can continue to air their grievances as much as they want. This way, if you want to get an update, you can do so without wading through all the rants. If you want to rant, you can go to the grievance section and have at it

I think it would make everything simpler for everybody and help get the customs section back to what it's all about.

Now here's the part where I might get roasted, but this is the reason I was compelled to post the above suggestions.

Captdan, I noticed this morning, that in your entire history on this forum, you've only posted comments in the Chris Howes threads specifically related to pursuing legal action or other recourse in resolving your outstanding order. In 82 posts you've never made comments in any of the other, really cool, sections of the board. In fact, according to you, you didn't even order any of the various heads commissioned by people that are at the heart of this discussion. I assume you ordered the Star Trek statues on another forum.

Of course you have every right to post whatever you want. I just think it's strange that you really don't seem interested in anything this board has to offer, except in relation to Chris Howes and your items, bumping multiple threads to achieve this in the process.

I did not even know this forum existed until I googled Chris Howes and saw that I was not the only person that was getting ripped off by him.

The reason I am being persistent in this matter is because I do not want to see this guy get away with ripping so many people off. I have already seen people post "Oh well, guess my money is gone, lesson learned" and they think there is nothing they can do about it when in fact there is something they can do about it.....

I apologize if I have offended anyone but Howes and was just trying to make sure that people do not let this situation quietly die and to let them know there are things they can do.....

I agree with what Ultramanimator is saying, there needs to be some type of merged thread of some sort. I think we need some type of sticky or something with a resource guide for alternate solutions to the missing Howes sculpts (for instance, Spenser stepped up to deliver Ghostbusters heads & 16k has stepped up to deliver Dexter heads)

It would be good for some of the people still looking for these sculpts to be able to find them without waiting for something they may never get.

It proves my point that a lot of forum members here were sold in Howes pitch of being a professional sculptor which is why there were a landslide of commissions for Howes's stuff at the time.

I don't mean any offense to Spencer for the sentence I wrote above in labelling Howes as a "professional". I jsut meant that Spencer doesn't brag all the time in his comments that he does professional stuff in the industry as oppose to Howes. I am sure Spencer probably have done some professional work for his clients but he doesn't brag about [which I think is great that he doesn't brag] which is why some ppl may have preferred a sculpt from Howes rather Spencer for the GB heads.

I agree with Ironman. The only sculpt I thought Howes did a great job on was the Joker, but I have heard it lookin different in person. However, I like Spencer's TOS customs.

I think Spencer is more of a professional than the other guy, but as said earilar, people appeared to be tempted by Howes' comments of being a professional

That's exactly why I bought into the House commission- He did a good job of talking himself up, and I personally figured someone who has done so much professional work could probably be trusted to handle it in a very professional manner. Obviously I was wrong. I really feel for you, "the vampire with soul", I was right before pre-paying for an Earl and Randy, too. The only thing that stopped me was seeing his House sculpt, and not liking it.

Spencer's gonna get an order from me eventually, when I can free up some extra money. He does great work, and he shows the goods before you have to spend money. Your Earl sculpt is tops, Spencer.

I continue to wish you all the best of luck in this, it is a severely absurd situation.

Didn't I read that his dad invented the Easy-Bake Oven? Way to go dirtying the family name, Chris. The bad thing for him is that it's going to get so that if you google his name, you're going to find a lot complaints, the same as if you google Andgor.
I'm starting to think that maybe Chris was less than honest about his reason for coming to the world of 1:6. I now think he saw an opportunity, and business was drying up in the "real world", so he made a good pitch, we fell for it, and when the work overwhelmed him he just gave up. I'm betting he can't give refunds because he long ago blew all the money.
I do agree with Capt. Dan that if you ever hope to get anything, you are going to have to put a legal fire under him. It's going to have to involve the law and investigation. Any of you guys with more than $100 tied up in this really need to do so, that's a lot of money to just lose into thin air.

I don't see the point of making a new thread for updates since for the vast majority our status is and has been "Paid and waiting" and I don't see it changing anytime soon. I ordered unpainted and undrilled and according to Collector49, he was told they (Unpainted) went out a month ago or more.
