such a shame this piece was ruined for me by some stupid "economic" decision to save $3-$4 by going to cheaper quality and wrong color leather on a $300 statue. I still can't get past it.

I'm not in the know with lord of the rings stuff..
whats the problem with the red... I don't get it..:lol ?

Well, though it is screen accurate, it doesn't look like the proto did (which was a deep deep red and weathered) and the pics were not updated on the website until after the first batches had been shipped and received!

:wave Hi Tay!! :)

The proto definately looks better than the actual, but after getting mine, I wasn't unhappy with it. The PF actually looks pretty good even with the red skirt because the rest of it is overwhelmingly good. Don't let pictures prevent you from getting a great PF. It is a nice piece.

Hey GG. I would have to respectfully disagree with that "screen accurate" statement though everything else you said was bang on. Having had the opportunity to see the LOTR movie exhibit several years ago I can tell you without the slightest doubt that "costume accurate" and "screen accurate" are not the same thing. I was shocked when looking at the actual costumes worn by Theoden, Eomer, etc... at how much more colourful they looked when compared to what we saw on the big screen.
I can't say the MO thing bothers me anymore, but I do wonder what SS was thinking 'cause the PF certainly doesn't match the rust-coloured fabric/cloth of the actual costuming :

It doesn't match the movie screencaps:

....and it doesn't even match their own prototype :

The only thing I can conclude is SS must have gotten a pretty sweet deal on someone's overstock of red pleather.....

Thanks for that Woodsy....I have no problem being proved wrong with such great pics and coherent argument! :)

I have to say considering the vast difference between screen and worn it must have been difficult for SS to get it right...though after seeing those pics I have to admit that SS did indeed make it too red, still one of my fave PF's though :rock

On a side note I am very very jealous that you managed to see the movie exibit...it must have been fantastic!

I have to agree with you there...sculpt-wise it is flawless. Though I am planning on having the pleather customized [weathered/dirtied] somewhat to make it less "Christmassy" and movie accurate. :D

Yeah, the movie exhibit was a real eye opener. Weta gets an awful lot of credit [and rightfully so] for their CGI in the movies, but the work that went into the costuming for the movies is just mind boggling. :google I can't even imagine how many thousands of "man hours" went into creating such fantastically detailed, realistic-looking clothing and armour. :drool

I do have some pic's somewhere, and I'll try and find them for you. In the meantime here is a link to some of the pic's from theonering.net website. By checking out the Scrapbook section you can find all sorts of pic's of costuming taken from various locations. :D
