The PS3 is actually one of the best BD players on the market just in terms of playback quality. Can't go wrong. Weak gaming console though.

Not to gear off topic too much but the guy at my local Game Stop said that the PS3 may drop about $100 by the end of the year or early 09. Don't know if thats true or not but it kinda makes sense since Xbox dropped their prices about $75 lately.

As for purchasing a PS3 solely for BR's, thats the main reason I want one but with the supposed BR player comming out for 360 I may just wait and pick up an Xbox instaed since it has more games I want at the moment.

No one else has mentioned it, but if you will never play games I'd say 'no'. The PS3 uses bluetooth so if you buy the extra remote (that's right - it doesn't come with the machine, although you can use a game controller as a remote if you're really into masochism.)

But it's bluetooth also, so if you have a universal remote - you can't program the PS3 into it. And when you play a game the remote will stop working because now the controller is paired overriding the pairing of the remote. It's a huge pain.

My gaming doesn't go beyond my DS, so any suggestions on a blu-ray player? Do they make one that still plays DVDs too?

Not sure what is wrong with yours but my PS3 remote works flawlessly regardless if I played a video game before I watch a movie. Ive only had to pair it to the PS3 once, and that was when I first opened it for use.

Yeah, I was wondering about that, too. I've never had any problems with my remote, before or after playing any game.

And, FWIW, there is an add-on device you can buy for the PS3 that allows it to work with any universal remote. I don't own one, but all the reviews I've read have been very good.

There may be something wrong with my PS3 then. Whenever I change controllers from the guitar to the controller to the remote - it always gives me problems.

Also is the machine supposed to turn off? Cause mine doesn't unless you flip the switch in the back. The front power button does nothing.

Not sure what's going on but that does sound weird dave. I don't think any PS3 controllers are supposed to over-ride each other.

As for the power off, yep you have to manually flip that switch in the back to turn it completely off. Im not sure how "off" the PS3 is when just the red light is left on.

Turning off the PS3 has always been my biggest complaint. I like the simple press of a button to turn off my 360--no holding buttons down for a few seconds, no confirming, etc.

GET IT!!!!!

If you are into video games like me you won't regret it. I have a 360, a PS3 and a Wii. The Wii mostly my kids play and besides the achievements there is nothing I miss from the 360.

Plus you have to play Resistance 2.

But to answer your question, the Blu-Ray capability is more than sufficient to keep you happy.
