Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars (SPOILERS)
Amen to that.
Not everything has to be deep, dark, dirty and grity.

For us, no matter what, nothing will remotely come close to the OT. But, I'm glad they are giving my kids a part of star wars that they can grow up and remember. I say bring on more.
The story element she is supposed to serve (ie, giving Anakin a lesson in "letting go" under the guise of fulfilling the Jedi Master function of training the next generation) could have been handled within the context of the war...by becoming "attached" to the clone troopers under his command and having to "let go" of them either through death or reassignment....could have made for some effect and intense wartime story telling. Instead, we get a noisy, back-talking irritant that offers nothing more than a distraction for an audience demographic...and one that is not well-hidden or subtle.
I've posted my review at The Collective. Click on my banner.
Although Dark Knight dropped to second place with $16.8 million this weekend, it remained just ahead of George Lucas' latest Jedi adventure, the animated Star Wars: the Clone Wars (Warner Bros.), which opened in over 3,400 theaters (more than Tropic Thunder) but delivered a disappointing $15.5 million, an average of $4,500 per site. The poor showing might be blamed on the mostly negative reviews and feelings among the fanbase that it's essentially a television cartoon that didn't necessarily need to be seen in theaters.
Exactly! These are the SW items kids will remember and really enjoy more than what we've had to grow up with. There's nothing wrong with that well as long as your not an adult who's forgotten to have fun like a kid. Which I must say is a decent portion of SW fans.
It would have be cool to see that with the clones but honestly I think they did quite well with her role in this. I totally bought into it and again unlike you I hope they spend more time showing that. I think she's only a distraction for small portion of fans because I've seen a lot of people that liked her. Lets put it this way for me I liked her enough to get the GG Maquette.
JB thinking about something and how you're describing her is in some ways the stuff people gripe about Anakin. He's mouthy, arrogant, typical of young men in the age group that he's in. She's just the female version of him IMO. People need to realize that not every Jedi is gonna be like Yoda, Obi-Wan, etc. They are picking people from all over and they will be different Jedi or not.
Film finished third this weekend, behind Tropic Thunder and The Dark Knight.
Yep, I'm sure none of us know of that type of 10-12 "tweener" girl that back-talks and thinks she's older than she is
Just like I'm sure none of us men here have daughters that disarm us and completely know how to work us
I guess none of you saw the little Hannah Montana/Wal-Mart ad before the trailers.
Ashoka Tano, totally AWESOME JEDI PADAWAN, bring it on!!!!!
I think that's some of the easiest, marketing research ever done in a Lucasfilm production. Not a long stretch there!
Which means I'm going to snap my own neck when I hear the same people ^^^^^ why George won't do any more Star Wars movies!?!
People want George to make more Star Wars films? Who are these people so I may avoid them?

The same communistic thinking people who believe someone's possession should be seized from them and then redistributed for the good the commonwealth.
I was prepared for the Star Wars logo and fanfare and was a bit put off when it didn't appear. I always get a chill with the visual/aural combination and I missed it at the start of this film. I might have liked it a little more if it had been included. The re-imagining of the theme music made me see everything as a little "off" and not Star Wars about the entire film.
I have to say that I enjoyed it more than TPM - Ashoka wasn't nearly as annoying as young Ani. I was prepared for "Sky-guy" and I think she only said it twice. Anakin calling her "snips" was more annoying to me. But yes- she did smack of market research, but once you accept that she's there - she's an interesting character and well paired with Anakin. Obi and Yoda are trying to make Anakin less reckless by giving him a Padawan with a similar attitude - it really does fit.
I have to say that I really didn't like the character designs, particularly the beards on Dooku and Obi. It felt too stylized considering how realistic everything else was and seemed just like a cheap copout because they couldn't afford to be photorealistic. Also what's with Yoda having pointy little teeth? Made him look kind of like a rat.
The show was non-stop action, very much like the other CW cartoons. Aimed firmly at the attention deficit disordered younglings that are the sole audience for TV cartoons. But for an adult this non-stop action is a bit offputting - where's the story, the character development? This and the lack of the fanfare got me thinking during the film (since my mind wasn't fully occupied by what was on screen) and about what makes Star Wars great. Why does it have such an enduring appeal?
It's the drama - Luke goes through a life changing event a couple of times during ANH, again in ESB and finally resolves it by helping his father towards redemption in RotJ. But there's no real sense of drama or jeopardy in CW or in much of the PT (until RotS).
Overall I didn't hate Clone Wars, I'll watch the TV show -or perhaps wait for the DVD as I did with the other one. But I think it has gotten away from why we love SW. I dearly hope they kill Asoka, it makes sense for Anakin's character and the plot of RotS and I hope it's dramatic.
But I guess I'll hold out hope for the live action series that we'll get back to great characters and great dramatic stories. I believe that the hour television drama is our greatest form of narrative expression nowadays, Buffy and Battlestar have proven that, and hopefully Star Wars can live up to that standard and recapture some of it's greatness in that medium.
With respect Dave, I believe the gist of what your saying is, this isnt the OT
I want a 7-9 written and directed by Frank Darbont. Lucas can take a hike, or watch.
Spoiler:The clunker that Anakin flies in the movie is called The Twilight and I guess he uses it several more times (must get it somewhat fixed-- If you liked the Millenium Falcon vibe..engine not working etc... That'll continue, for at least a few episodes).
Kit Fisto fights Grievous.
Ahsoka fights Grievous (and seemingly loses but I don't see him being the cause of her demise).
Jar Jar will have an episode.
