Clonobi has replaced Luke Skywalker as the face of Star Wars.
I'm a convert.

I lost my "faith" in Luke in the sequel trilogy, and I had my fears for how they would handle Kenobi. We know how Kenobi's story ends, and I feared they'd just trample all over it with his own series. The show had its ups and downs, but it NAILED it so hard where it mattered and the Clone Wars and Rebels built that legacy up so much that I can't help but view Kenobi as THE definitive Jedi of the era now.

When I think of "Jedi Knight", I think of Obi-Wan. The perfect fusion of a romantic ideal of honor and chivalry, in space. A tragedy that was handled so much more gracefully than Luke's swerve because we spent the time with him to see his friendships build, falter, and his idealism fall apart but ultimately be renewed. Having such great actors and writing helped (Ewan really did take the role and run with it).

In a Star Wars era where we see our "heroes" failing and disappointing us (from Luke to Leia to even Boba Fett), Obi-Wan is almost the only OG character who is BETTER now than he was in the original trilogy.

Mandalorian and Grogu may be carrying the franchise on their backs, and Andor may be the smartest Star Wars show in recent memory, but Obi-Wan is the beating heart that old fans still can turn to and not be disappointed by.

Judging by Facebook today, this is a mega popular release. Way more buzz than mace, which is surprising, as we never got a mace. Post after post about kenobi. Everyone seems happy too! Except my bank account

Same, I don't think I've ever ordered so many figures in such a short window, 5 figures since Padme/Anakin went up. I was fortunate to have some coupons and RP's handy.

I'm actually somewhat thankful that Jesse and Mando Luke was pushed back, between the figures, and the holidays, I need a month of recouping funds.

Might go for Obi-Wan + Commander Cody display instead. Leaves room to have EP2 Anakin + Padme and then Kenobi Vader on his own. 🤔

That'd work great as well. I passed on Padawan Anakin & Fremen Padme because I couldn't fit them anywhere. But, if I do get this Obi, I'm putting him with whatever Clone I end up getting (Cody and/or Rex, I can't see myself buying anyone else unless they do someone from GenndyWars this year), and if the ROTS re-issue happens, that'll go with all the other ROTS figures.

Imagine showing a collector this Top 4 on the sideshow best sellers page even back in November. I can’t recall such an outward assault of figures that people have been asking for being announced essentially in sync. Even on the Marvel side, Mantis and the final suit Spidey are figures people have been asking for for a long time. Hot Toys are a very imperfect company, we all know their flaws, but this past month has been a complete joy. People are getting absolute personal grails. That’s what it’s all about. And hopefully they see this reaction and realise that people will come out in droves to support characters they love. The commenters asking for these figures are willing to step up to the plate on them.

What sequel trilogy?

You can easily just pair him with a bunch of Clones, as a General with his Army. I'm on a similar boat in the Anakin/Obi situation, but I figure that you don't need to put Vader with Old Ben either. There's a bunch of displays one can whip up. They do have solo adventures at the end of the day.

I did hype myself up for a DS Anakin re-release, but yeah, I'm not thinking it's likely.
ROTS 20th anniversary in 2025 perhaps?

Totally agree. The only thing missing for me now is a new Han. Ideally Bespin, but I’d take one in the ROTJ anniversary line.

Yep. This month has restored my faith in hot toys. Anakin, mace, padme, general kenobi, and even the super battle droid being the correct aotc version has been insane. If you would have told me in January that I’d be excited about a windfall of aotc figures, I’d have said you were nuts. But here we are, celebrating padme, mace, anakin, and general kenobi.

I do think hot Toys was smart In waitlisting C3po, r2 and the rest. It created a huge buzz. My shiny and pilot converted yesterday, so we’ll see if the waitlist remains.

Marketing ploy or not, it worked.

I think Anakin and Obi-Wan re-releases in 2025 are a given. They're the face of SW next to Vader for the younger generations, and in 2025 those kids will be in their 30s and have disposable income. And those figures will be, what, 8 years old by then? Surely they'll update them, with the rolling eyes and everything. Question is, will they also put out a cheap and fast Dark Side Anakin variant, or not? And I wonder how deep they'll go with the ROTS line. Chancellor Palpatine, maybe in a DX 2-Pack form with his Sidious form. Or they could release a TCW Sidious at some point, with his red-ish robes and black hood. But beyond that, in a ROTS line they could also re-issue Yoda and Dooku, put out a Grievous, maybe a new Padme, a new Cody; there's meat there. But 2025 will be a very packed year. First MCU FF flick which means they'll have to do the whole team, plus the villain if the rumours are true and it's Silver Surfer. And of course The (Dreamworks Clown) Kang Dynasty, which is an Avengers film. And that's without any surprises (the MCU slate doesn't have anything past KD in 2025, so I'm sure they'll have another film in November, maybe Doctor Strange 3). I'm curious to see how they'll handle it all.

Beautifully said! Kenobi is my ideal jedi, and Ewan was the perfect person to play him. He owns every scene he's in and you can tell the role means a lot to him. Just as I have Anakin, Rey, Luke, and Maul through each appearance, I'll also get each appearance of Kenobi. I'm hoping for TPM and AOTC sooner rather than later.

I'm impressed that Padme is selling the best. I can't believe it took so long for the character to get a Hot Toy.

Man I've wanted an Obi-Wan for awhile now...but this one just isn't doing it for me.
I'll take my chances and wait for the Jedi mullet version. I mean if we're getting an AotC Anakin, then an AotC Obi-Wan has to be in the works too, right? 😕
I really should've picked up the RotS version when it was still available.

We all have collection regrets and I sympathize.

Unfortunately with this and the OWK version already on the way, another Obi-Wan soon feels unlikely. They seem to have moved on to CW 20th and ROTJ 40th is this year as well. They’ll also be busy with The Mandalorian Season 3 and Ahsoka on top of that.

Might be more likely that you get another shot at a ROTS version if they do a 2.0 for ROTS 20th. They could include his TCW forearm armor to entice people who already have one. That and OWK Season 2 Obi-Wan feel more likely to take up future slots.

Might have to be AOTC 25th for an Episode II version at this point.
