I found it to be pandering. So did my wife. I saw her roll her eyes when that scene came up.

I had two people in my theater clap . I was thinking that that was the dumbest scene in the movie. All the hero girls who don’t know each other suddenly band together out of nowhere.
Imagine if they did that with all the black people on the battle field lol

Is it a message of segregation? You know, if you not black, don't hang with us... if you're not Asian, stay in your lane. Yep... real unity.

I think that the fact that they are still bringing this up shows that they knew it was pandering, and are trying to justify it. IMO that was one of the worst scenes in the entire MCU. :lol

It takes you out of the movie which is clearly self serving. Keep that for your Marvels movie. There better be a dude helping out the 3 fem heroes in that movie. A straight white dude, too.

I've said it before too, but the scene particularly did not work for me because Captain Marvel was the center of it all. She did not need the help of everyone else there. If for example they switched the gauntlet bearers to Gamora and Nebula, my tone would change.

Those two going against Thanos would have a thematic purpose and would definitely need the others' help. Nebula getting help from others would be character growth for her as well because she had always been going off alone.

I’ve seen girls on tumblr say this scene was stupid and forceful . So yea it’s that bad when tumbkr hates it lol

To be honest, any scene with Captain Marvel was bad. :chase :mwaha

Like you all I rolled my eyes at this scene in the movie because it felt poorly executed, likewise my wife called it out afterwards saying it felt like unnatural pandering.

When discussing it with my family sometime later I was surprised to find out that it was my younger sister's favourite moment in the movie. She said it was nice to finally have a scene where the girls got to shine together as a team but in the process helping the boys. I don't look at the avengers as a boy team but for her that's what they were even though she likes the movies. She grew up with three older brothers and always tried to keep up with us rather than doing her own 'girly' thing, so black widow being the only girl on the avengers was probably quite close to home for her. She also played netball at a very competitive level and if it was a boys sport she would have been able to turn professional and earn a living from it but being a girls sport it naturally receives little to no attention or funding. So from her perspective I can see why it would mean something, the girls can be just as useful as the boys. Switching the focus to them, if only for a moment, in the final battle of the mainstream juggernaut that was the Infinity Saga was perhaps even more significant given that the main climatic narrative thread culminates in the three male leads, Thor, Cap and Tony going toe to toe with Thanos whilst black widow (the original female avenger) was long dead and forgotten by the movie at this point.

Sure it made me roll my eyes but it didn't bother me and if it gave her something and other girls like her then they were right to put it in the series.

I rolled my eyes but maybe us blokes are so used to being pandered to that we don't even recognize it as such. I mean that cool moment with Cap, Iron Man and Thor - our 3 manly big guns - walking up to face Thanos.....

Now even in light of the above what still bothers me about the girl-power scene was the coincidence it required that on this immense battlefield every single female Avenger happened to be in close enough proximity - and be otherwise unoccupied - to all converge at that particular time.

So that Trinh Tran lady basically admitted "I wanted it in for the sake of having it in, so we forced it in, but we didn't want it to look like we just crammed it in there (even though that's what we did), so we shot all this extra stuff to try and justify it"...I'd say 'mission failed'.

It was great to see as it's something cool for girls like mine to get excited about, just like I got excited about the big three and Thanos fighting, but they failed miserably at making it seem natural.
