Before they made the prequels, Anakin Skywalker was a good pilot, a stoic war hero and friend to obi wan that was lured to the dark side of the force. But now we know he?s a just whiny, annoying, romantic fool who is easily manipulated.

Yes, he was the "best star pilot in the galaxy, a cunning warrior and a good friend", but he was also a "young" Jedi and "pupil" of Obi-Wan's.

And yes he was whiny and annoying - like father, like son.

Watched it last night with my son, and watched about 3/4 of it in bits with my daughter tonight.
I'm not going to go to great lengths reviewing it, as I think you guys have pointed out the goods and bads pretty eloquently... :lol

But here's a few thoughts.

- This is 100%, undiluted Snyder. The is the Snyder-est of Snyder's movies, so if you don't like his style, there is absolutely no point in wasting 4 hours of your life watching it.

- I like BvS (UE) better because of the themes and ideas it tackles. I really love how it looks at how our modern society would react to gods walking among us; how it looks at power, politics, religion... ZSJL happens almost in a bubble, it's really all about these "new gods", about their lives, their traumas. Where BvS went to great pains to dissect the effect of heroes on the common man, ZSJL is only interested in the heroes.

- I've read that people say ZSJL is like a movie made by a 14 year old comic book fan. They say it as a bad thing, but it's actually a compliment. Snyder loves these heroes and is in true awe of them, to him they are the New Gods, and every time he puts them on screen, he wants us to see them like he does. It really clicked for me when Aquaman shows up to rescue that guy from his sinking ship in the storm: that is not just a hero, that is a GOD, that is how Snyder is showing Aquaman. He wants us to feel the same awe he does.

- I didn't feel this was at all dark, dour or gritty. It was very optimistic, and I was surprised that Flash was that funny. The jokes worked very well.

- It is very violent, and the violence has consequences. I like that, it just makes sense to me that if a superhero throws you against a wall your skull will probably crack, and if a sword cuts off one of your limbs, blood will splatter.

- Surprisingly, I think there's a couple of things Whedon actually did do slightly better. The tension within the League (from what I can remember, only saw the movie once) felt more important, the conflict between WW and Batman felt important and it's completely absent here. The other thing I liked in the Whedon cut was the aftermath of Batman's confrontation with Superman, it was cool to see how much damage Bruce Wayne has to endure, while the others can just brush it off.

- Snyder's choice of music is a perfect analogy to what his DC universe is to the MCU. The MCU is pop, Snyder is alternative indie-rock. There's room for both IMHO, and I hope we get some more indie-rock from Snyder. I really want to see Cavill fulfil his promise as Superman, and I want to see more of this Justice League. Having said that, I think Snyder should produce the next movies, and let others play around a bit in this universe he created. Wonder Woman and Aquaman were good examples of what other directors can bring to the table working in Snyder's universe.

Had to split this over two nights, but I came away surprised by how much more screentime Cyborg and Flash had.

Cyborg was a central character to the plot in this version, if I didn't know any better I'd say it was impossible to cut him out of the movie. That's probably why the Whedon version was so bad. Fisher was right to be upset, just with how much his character was sidelined in Whedon's version.

Oddly enough, it felt like Aquaman was the side character in Snyder's version. I'd imagine the execs told Whedon to make sure that character was treated as an equal because he had his own solo flick coming up and they didn't want him portrayed as a sidekick.

But damn, there was way too much packed into one movie, and it still wasn't very good. I will never understand Snyder's insistence on making everything so drab and desaturated.

With both versions being out there, I think the one good thing about Whedon's version is that it more or less eliminated Darkseid. In Snyder's version, Darkseid is a "Chekov's gun" that is never fired, so it was right to remove that character.

So I get that Thanos created as a rip-off of Darkseid but it also seems like Corvus Glaive and Cull Obsidian are lifted from DeSaad and Steppenwolf respectively, does Proxima Midnight have a counterpart in Darkseid's gang?

Loved it. This is my favorite of Snyder’s DC movies.

Give us the Knightmare sequel and 3.

That latter one is how Snyder explains it, but I feel it goes deeper than that, whether it's Bruce finally redeeming himself by "saving Martha" or seeing his dying father in Clark (or both). I'd love to hear once and for all the writers' true intent - whether it's profound or otherwise.

It had to be Martha, for the above reasons. You can rationalise it by Clark trying to protect her identity till the last gasp, even if that is a bit of a stretch.

I can accept it if Supes is knowingly and deliberately saying ''Martha'' instead of ''my mother'' so as to register with Batman in the way that it does. But is he? I've seen the film a few times now and just never got that impression. Was there a scene earlier in the movie where Clark looks into Bruce Wayne's parents and notices the mother's name? I could understand then how Clark would file that piece of information in his back pocket. Otherwise there just seems to be no reason for him to refer to his own mother by her name in that moment unless he knows it will have particular significance to Batman.

And I'm not saying we then need to have Batman say - ''oh, hey, my mom's name is Martha too!''. Some earlier set-up would have been helpful though.

At least scene specific to an actual cool scene :lecture

But a Batman in his costume is still required as well :lecture

HT Superman has huge thighs lol

Huge thighs, excessively bulbous shoulders, zero traps in conjunction with barrel neck making it look too long. A company priding itself on realism should be paying more attention to these things.

Yeah HT is equally bad as they are good

He should had said:

You’re letting them kill my mother her name is Martha....save Martha!!!

Done zero controversy.

One of the ideas they had Martha Wayne was going to be the same person as Martha Kent...

I KNOW!!!!

Yup yup that’s all included in me putting CW on my list.

I have further thoughts on my JL viewing now that I started the 2nd viewing

This movie is really growing on me more and more and I am ready to say that Darkseid as presented in just his few minutes feels way more menacing than Thanos ever did.

Darkseid is not about balancing anything he just wants to skull **** you period!

Also there really wasn’t any eye rolling moments like there was unfortunately in EG (cough arm brace Hulk) the 4 hours was a very easy watch which is quite an accomplishment.

It feels really really REALLY weird and wacky that Whedon JL is still out there and actually owning the damn movie doesn’t it lol

Now I need a 1/6 Darkseid to go next to my Thanos. :slap

My poor wife....as in literally poor if I keep on this trajectory lol

I watched the first two hours last night and the second half just now, and I absolutely loved it.

The extended time allowed much more room to tell the story. They actually felt like a real team which is not something the original release was ever able to achieve, at least for me. There are so many moments that stand out and the cinematography was simply awesome.

Or that.

So like Endgame Thanos. He was all about the universal balance in IW - which is what we liked, he felt nuanced. In Endgame he was pissed off though and said screw it, I'm gonna wipe you all out now.

Thanos I still love both IW and EG versions he was a balance himself.

But I think Darkseid stepping on SW severed head and squishing it down is now my favorite single villain moment in all of superhero movie history!

Middle management is a thankless job.

Has anyone explained why Darkseid doesn't remember the name/location of the only planet that ever beat him that had those smelly motherboxes & also his coveted evil math?
It feels like the biggest plothole I can remember. Like if halfway through a Batman movie Alfred fell down a well and was like I found the Batcave Master Bruce!

4 hours and they didn’t even explain what the ALE was and how it worked lol

Oh snap!

Snyder latest interview he just blasted WB saying they had demands on his new cut due to franchising which he felt betrayed his promise to the fans to deliver his full vision.

I’m actually happy that WB told him no GL corp at the end because I think MM works so much better

But they told him not to touch upon the Darkseid ideology but he says he ignored their demand on that one but I think that is where the lack of explanation on the ALE is coming from so I don’t think he fully ignored that demand.
