Well I finally got mine in and I gotta say... I’m pretty disappointed in Sideshow. Right after opening, the spit curl falls right off the head. No problem-a little glue and that was fixed. Next I try to set him up just to enjoy the figure as is for awhile but nope, the ankles are so tight on mine that the right one not only split the shin when trying to turn the foot, but also cracked the interior post that connects inside the leg. I had to immediately undo the suit to completely remove the ankle joint. Oh but before then, when removing the other boot, that joint snapped right off too at a different location. These are easy fixes with some glue but this is the reason why I just do-not-like Sideshow bodies! :gah:

Now, I’m not sure what to do as these new boot sleeves are larger so they don’t fit snuggly around standard body calfs. I have the original figure boots but they don’t have the nice leather texture the new ones do. Ugh. I had some high hopes for this as I was on a good track with SS figures recently having received Daredevil, Batman, Joker, Darth Maul and Darth Vader all within the last couple of months. Granted I did some mods to them but nothing on the original figures broke right out of the gate! I will say, I love the headsculpt which is also a shame since it won’t fit on a larger body. This definitely puts me off buying their Wonder Woman, Flash and Cyclops. Think I’m going to stop with Harley unless they make a Superman villain. This is really upsetting.

If you bought from Sideshow they will almost definitely replace the body.

I didn’t. I bought from an online store in Canada lol it was only $160+shipping there vs the $240+shipping and tax from SS. Regardless, I can fix the body, that’s easy to do. I’m just mad that it happened and I couldn’t even enjoy the figure right when I got it. Instead I have to immediately take it into surgery which taints the entire (usually thrilling/exciting) first unboxing experience.

At this moment, I’m trying to decide if I want to proceed with fixing the SS body while replacing the arms and chest like I did with my Batman, or figure out how to make the new boots fit snuggly on the new body but not be able to use the new head.

Gipetto that is a very sad story. The fact that you were ready to fix all of these issues from the jump pretty much tells you all that you need to know. I see promise with this figure but not the body. I like the head, I like the suit and I like the accessories but the body needed to be unique; special for Superman and he is not.
I bought parts for the Wonder Woman and for the Superman figures and made my own using Hot Toys and Phicen parts that were not by Sideshow and I am very happy with what I made. Sideshow makes great kitbash fodder but none of the Sideshow figures that I have bought in the past 7 years have stayed as is; I always modify them. I am sure that Sideshow will help you with replacements but from one collector to another my heart goes out to you. A manly tear trickled down my face reading your story.

Ah, thats unfortunate. As s fellow Canadian, where'd you get the figure for that price?

I appreciate it Piccolo :1-1:

Yea, even though I had a plan to potentially mod or switchout the body, I really wanted to just enjoy it for what it was at first especially since I had been waiting so long for it.

What body did you go for on yours that you put together? Any pics? I'm thinking the M33 if I choose to use the original head. I have a modified Man of Steel body if I choose to use my repainted original heads. I could potentially repaint the new head to match the skin tone of my others, but I'm not quite sure how that will turn out as it could look a little pin headed. But I really do like the new head sculpt. It's a younger looking Superman to me with some great details, in the hair especially.

With that said, even though I didn't order direct from Sideshow, I decided to drop them an email with my story and pics to see if they might be able to help out with a replacement. I figured it didn't hurt to ask. It would be nice to get a new one and not worry about the glue not holding the ankles in place.

Got it from CMDStore (https://cmdstore.com/). I happened to be googling to see if any store outside of SS had it since there was no exclusive this go around and I found it. I was shocked, did some research and they seemed legit, so I placed an order. They took it off their site about a month after I placed my order. Not sure if they realized the mistake in price or they just sold through their allotment and I was lucky to get one in. While, the wait time was longer, shipping was fast. Only paid $20 for shipping and it came a day early. Mind you, I'm in Texas which is waaaaay at the bottom of the country so pretty impressed with them. So, $180 total isn't bad for this figure and it could be a lot worse. If I've got to chuck in a few more bucks to get it to work right, I'll at least break even with the original price.

Ouch Sideshow is really lacking in quality. I preorder 3 and canclled 2. I like the body of v1 but this one i only like the accessories.

Hi,

How is the skin tone compared to the custom head? Are there any gaps on the sides of the head?

Thanks

Here's what he looks like with just a headswap I got on ebay. I dig it.

hi! I did the same thing, and I am pretty happy.

Skin color matches.
Head and neck also fit quite well.
Overall I am satisfied.

The pity is that the arms are not very posable... at least I could manage this hands on the back pose.

What is the best way to unfreeze an immoveable elbow? I've put a fair amount of force but not enough to break it. Which is best, heat or hot water or something else.

Nice.. Does the head fit perfectly on the sideshow neck peg or did u have to do a mod of some sort?

no mods! if you push the head on the peg till the end, the head sits a bit too low, so I just pulled it out a bit, but it is still holding ok in the peg, with no mods.

Start with a hair dryer and if that doesn't work move on to boiling water.

Well I did both of these and as I was applying a little pressure, I thought it broke. Now the forearm just dangles inside the tight costume. I hope the forearm just came out of the socket of the elbow. I can feel the end of the arm and it has a short peg and it feels like it's a little rounded on the end. Does anyone have a pic of the body or one like it so I can be sure?

What is the best body to replace the Sideshow body with to give Superman a little more muscle mass? I'm not looking to do the Phichen body - not really interested in those.

I haven?t found one that would be muscular enough but still fit the new head. I?m using a modified man of steel body, but the neck on that body is too big for this version?s head; so, I?m using the V1 Superman heads instead. Maybe the newer Thor bodies, but those necks could end up being too large as well. I sold the Thor body I had before this figure came in, so I couldn?t give it a try. Phicen really needs to come out with something that?s in between the M33 and M34/35. The only other potential option I can think of is the Worldbox AT27. It could look a little pinheaded though as that body is pretty tall and you?ll have to paint the neck area most likely to match the skin tone of the sideshow head. All options will require some sort of modification to the ankles however as Sideshow uses larger ball sockets on their ankle joint system for some reason
