can soeone please explain what good it would do to require a post to include a starting price that will likely be waaaaaay over the current going rate as opposed to just posting 'pm me with offers'?
Because that's what almost everyone including the owner of the board want.

can soeone please explain what good it would do to require a post to include a starting price that will likely be waaaaaay over the current going rate as opposed to just posting 'pm me with offers'? in the end, both establish a starting price and negotiations go from there. one way allows sellers to jack up asking prices, while the other lets buyers low-ball... in the end you either have a deal or you don't.

no matter how you slice it, a seller's thread it going to get dumped on by the same individuals who feel the need to do so no matter if they're interested or not. either they're greedy for asking a crazy high amount, or they're trying to exploit money out of fellow board members.

why can't it be as simple as not making offers if you don't want to go back and forth on prices?

Dude, why dont you bring you bizness ''with offers'' to ebay... ??? Give us a good reason....its obvious people dont want this here.Stop beating a dead dog..you are now hurting you future seller credential here....let it go....Tylerd understood..what is so hard for you....if you want maximum profit bring your stuff to ebay.

Well sure, if you (general you, not jbinny specific) try to be a ****** and put up a stupid price thats gonna be problematic. And if someone puts up a silly price just to skirt the (potential) rules then, to me, that indicates someone I wouldn't want to deal with.

Voila !!!!

But I dont think he understand that...:duh .....thats why I told him he's hurting his future seller cred here......people will indentifie him with those offer thread but I guess , he doesnt care...:duh

voted no.

sellers should list their selling price then add OBO option. i wish this votation include the "i might sell this blah-blah" and " feeler" threads as well.

I would assume the vote includes the "feeler" threads. There's a vast number resources that will allow you to determine your collectible's worth.

I voted list the price, like many have said this is not Ebay. Also I agree pre-order sales should not be allowed as well. How hard is it to list a price!

LIST A PRICE!!!

when it comes down to it, it's just like selling cars...

when a dealer lists the sticker or asking price, it's not too terribly often that someone just strolls right in and pays that amount, especially on something new or high end. people visit dealerships all day, every day and every time a car is sold, there's negotiating involved and both sides give until they've reached their max/min. amount, or they come to an agreement on the price.

likewise, used vehicles rarely have prices slapped on the windshield for the sole purpose of getting serious customers to come in during business hours and inquire about a price. they don't have prices listed because they want to weed out the people who aren't serious about buying and just want to look or go for a joyride.

when a price isn't listed, it helps a seller to find out who's serious about buying and who's not. nine out of ten times, you can tell whether or not a buyer is really interested or not just by what their initial offer is whether the price is listed or not, so...

WHY SHOULDN'T IT BE UP TO THE SELLER WHETHER OR NOT A PRICE IS LISTED?

so what if there are potential buyers who pass on listings because of no prices being listed, it's the seller who is missing out on a potential sale

So to help your cause, you are trying to equate selling here to being a "used car salesman" :lol :lol

i'll let my feedback and dealing history with other members determine my credibility on here. nearly everything i've ever sold on here has been right at what i paid plus paypal fees and shipping and quite a few times i've taken a loss.

look at the price that i offered you on the spidey ex... 450 plus shipping, just enough to cover exactly what i paid. not only did i tell you exactly what i paid and give you an auction link, but i also explained that the reason i was turning around and selling it was because i bought it to swap out cameras because mine had a broken strap.

now isn't it a bit weird that you're trying to rip on me for being greedy and exploit people, when you even said that it sounded like a good deal, but you were currently bidding on the only auction on ebay and if you couldn't get it for cheap enough, you'd definitely buy mine.

kinda strange that now you're trying to make me look bad after, and only after the ebay auction went too high and i told you that i wouldn't accept payments on it.

who's the real a$$hole shai?

..using that analogy if you dont list the price you would be the one going for the joyride by making people guess and bid against each other, and thats not what this forum is all about.

no, i explained exactly how i handle my listings... first come, first serve. if someone doesn't respond to my counter-offer within a few hours, i move on to the next one.

because majority of the freaks AND the OWNER of the freaks board don't like it.

i can't really argue with what the owner ultimately decides, i'm just trying to get an answer other than 'because'.

Here's a copy of the post Mesascott wrote earlier and you said you had grasped it.

It's just the little stuff that has been building up. A few that come to mind: commissions to bid on auctions that are exclusive, selling of preorders for way above retail, selling of gimmicky SS faux bronze pieces (which I'm guilty of).

I think there's a right way to go about it, and a way that can be misinterpretted as greed, or just be greedy period. I know I've scored deals on Ebay, or pieces have appreciated greatly and I get excited about them, but none of my "tangible" friends that I see on a day to day basis are into this, so I can only share that excitement here, with others that can relate to my joy and being excited about it. Basically, I want to brag that I only paid $200 for some Marvel piece and it's now going over $600, for example. Or, when we find a guy that is selling all his Marvel pieces, including a matched spidey set, for much less than what they are worth and we're lucky enough to find those deals, you want to tell someone.

I think the less frowned upon manner is to just start a discussion thread and come right out and ask, "How much is this worth" or "what is the going rate of product X" in the respective category, not the commerce section, and if you're discussion turns into a deal, handle it in PM's offline. Once posted in commerce, you're only displaying that you have something that you will only sell for the right price, which can be interpretted as being greedy, but anyone of us would sell any of our most treasured pieces if the price was right, let's not kid ourselves.

reading this really puts things in perspective...

this thread got out of hand once insults and cheap shots started getting thrown in, but it probably should've never made it to that point. i played a role in it and i can admit that, but i think anyone would get a bit fired up once their character is brought into question.

that being said...

offers = ok

auctions = not so much

Anyway, this poll is to determine the best way forward, so that the forum members can have their opinion and so Dave and the Mod's can make informed decisions on if anything will change.

Lets just leave this thread for people to voice their thoughts on the poll and leave the personal questioning of any sellers tactics out of things shall we.
Thanks

are you dense? wtf do you expect when shai's stupid a-- comes back and starts on my character and credibility again?

Just for the record, about the spider-man thing..I wanna say jbinny made me a great offer, with a very abordable price....I admit it was even generous of himself...what he dont gets however, is that I hate his ''make offer threads'' he seems to think I have a personnal vendetta against him, wich is false...again ,WHEN HE GAVE ME A PRICE FOR HIS SPIDEY PF, I TOUGHT IT WAS A GREAT PRICE......

The make offers, feelers threads and pre-orders selling threads have to stop.Sideshow even personnally take -off auctions like that on ebay..how do you think they 'll react if they knew some people on the freak board do the same thing here in the commerce section ???? Dave will look bad and this whole community too.

I will fight this disease till the end.

My vote goes for Dave to BAN all auction style listings AND Best Offer listings.

If you want to sell here, list a price and stop wasting people's time just so you can hopefully rip off an uninformed buyer.

No more pre-sales Tylerd.

since you've singled me out first, this board is about the 10th out of 10 viable places i advertise or sell anything. if i never sell anything here again, it's no sweat off my ass.

unlike others here that can be underhanded yet think they have the right to impose their individual wills on others. as far as i'm concerned, when someone gets the warehouse arrival e-mail from ss, that's as good as having the item in hand. and if i feel the urge to post it for sale here, it will go up until someone that actually has some authority removes it. piss off ed. :D
