That was my point; their website is a total joke. 79% approval rating for a disaster like that last Halloween movie is laughable.

Not jumping off as in "never see any movies on the big screen again" but rather being content enough with what already exists and the experiences I've already had to the point that I don't know how often I'll ever need to preorder tickets for opening weekend after AEG and SW9 ever again. I see myself as just catching whatever comes up on $5 Tuesday when crowds have died down, I won't be worried about avoiding spoilers for whatever, and so on. I kind of look forward to crossing that threshold, lol.

I've got epic old SW, epic new SW, timeless fantasy (LOTR) and sword & sorcery (CTB), a ton of classic action (Indy, Die Hard, etc.) gritty sci-fi (ALIENS, Terminator, RoboCop, BR2049), and now all these epic superhero flicks. Plus all the great horror, monster, and countless films of all the other genres. Not so much "needs" to be made/remade for me anymore. Yeah I'll be there for Robotech and Gundam if those ever happen, but not much else at this point.

Yup i’m putting my hands behind my head my feet on the table and no longer will worry about spoilers.

All I know is that when I look at my collection I just say wow.

The great film reviewer Joe Bob Briggs has made it his life's work to keep alive the tradition of seeing films as a communal experience. Primarily through drive in movies. But he seems to have recognized the cultural shift we've had, where mass audiences no longer have the interest or motivation in going to see films in this way. I think it's a reflection of a society that gets more and more isolated and disengaged from one another, something the great political scientist Robert Putnam has observed for many years, and political commentator David Brooks writes about all the time. But the speed of technological advancement plays a role. Why pay to go out when you can get the same experience at home?

I personally don't have much time to see movies at the theater anymore, unless it's bringing kids on the weekend, so this doesn't affect me much personally. But it's always a bit sad when something that mattered to you in an earlier time goes away.


. . .as for the outrage over this film specifically, I wish people in general would grow some thicker skin. But, it's where we are as a society. Everyone's offended by everything, whether it's your typical millennial or the president and everyone in-between, and it's just not possible to watch a film as disposable entertainment to distract us from the drudgery of everyday life for a couple of hours. Well, it is for me, but I have to block out all the noise to process it that way.

For my part, I regret participating in the discussion the other day. I always do - really should learn my lesson. Buffinator called it a no-win debate and I think that's actually the best case scenario with these things.

Will I be seeing this film at the cinema - no. Is that a protest from me? - Ehhh, probably wouldn't have been seeing it anyway to be honest. I actually haven't seen very many MCU films at the cinema compared to how many there are

Guardians of the Galaxy
Spiderman Homecoming
Thor Ragnorok
Avengers Infinity War....think that's it.
