Ok so I have a couple WWII service pistols. I'm pretty sure they are up there in value and highly collectible. But unfortunately I don't know much about handguns from that period. I can tell you that they belonged to my Dad who inherited them from my Grandfather that served in the Navy in WWII. The one I am certain is a Remington Rand. It is in really good shape in my opinion. The other one says 1911 US Army. I believe they both are variations of the same weapon. However, I keep finding prices that are all over the place and don't understand the different variations and what they mean. I also have some of the holsters that say "US" on them. Any help in schooling me on these is appreciated. Also I would appreciate any help or advice in how to store them. Right now I have them at my wife's stepdads in gun cases.

I never plan on selling them. I also inherited a M1-Garand that looks like it was never fired.

If the 1911's are original and not messed with post war, they're worth about 1000 to 1400, as far as I've seen at the local WWII conventions that had them for sale. I suspect that the bottom one is a bit less because of the slightly worn grip. I've personally seen the holsters go for 400, and the Garand I can't help you with.

For storage, I'd say keep them moist-free, but not air-free.

I've heard it varies by region too. I tried looking them up and found sold pieces for anywhere from $900 to $2800. :dunno

The Remington is in much better shape than the Colt manufatured one. Any ideas on the difference?

Al I know is that the Remingtons were more highly produced than Colt. I believe 900.000 by Remington and only 400.000 by Colt.

Very cool. I always wanted an original 1911 Colt (classic pistol) and a M-1 Garand.

Anyway don't sell them keep them in the family. Don't be like all those people on Pawn Stars, they get something that is passed down in their family and they sell it for 40% of what it's worth then piss the money away at the casinos.:lol

Never...the first gun I ever fired was the Colt pictured. I was very young. These stay with my family. :lecture

You also might want to post these in the gun collecting thread in the GI Joe/Military section. There may be some collectors there that don't frequent this section that might have some more info.

Oh...and very, very cool.
