It was the sandbox - all sorts of non-toy related subjects come up there, that's the point of it. It's generally asked not to bring up religion, but if it's going to come up that's where it would go. Even still, they don't approve of it so I was bending the rules there admittedly.

As far as thinking myself a victim for being called on it? I didn't :dunno

You sure were eager to inject yourself into it without being named directly.

Into what? The sandbox thread? You did name me directly.

-edit - no, I get it, you're talking about here - since religion had not previously been brought up by anyone in this thread prior to your post it was quite obvious you were referring to me and that incident in the sandbox. What's your point?

“These blithering women who thought they could do a man's work. Why the hell couldn't they stay at home and mind their pots and pans and stick to their frocks and gossip and leave men's work to the men.”
― Ian Fleming, Casino Royale

As long as they don't officially name a woman as the new James Bond, then the series is still safe. If that ever happens there won't be anything they could do to recover.
Anyone who thinks that James Bond could ever be portrayed as a female does not understand the character. It would practically be taking a huge dump on Ian Fleming's grave and the film industry as a whole. If you kill James Bond, your career dies with him. Nobody is going to forget the writer or director that puts an end to one of the longest running film series in history (if not the longest).

The only fan theory that made this worthwhile is that 007 was a code and that james bond codename went with it. I can see why the bond 25 production is all over the place though and why all these issues keep delaying it

This is my point exactly. This stupid move does nothing for the positive shift in thinking that is happening in Hollywood finally in regards to diversity and inclusivity in terms of ethnicity, sex and body variety.

All it does is cause inane backlash. It seems cheap and unfortunate that the broccoli family would resort to a tactic like this after firmly and respectfully stating time again in respect to the source material Bond is to only be portrayed as a white male.

I will follow up and specify my thoughts are purely coming from the perspective that this woman will indeed take over the mantle. That’s is just blasphemous.

If she’s a plot device in this particular film before the franchise be rebooted with a Richard madden type than I’m all for it. I think it’s cool and not because it’s a black Woman as 007 but that someone else, black, white, man woman etc is 007 and not Bond and that makes for an interesting premise! and if she’s good casting for that particular role than that’s great, but it shouldn’t be simply because she is black and female either. This is what we call positive discrimination.

Even like that, it’s wrong. The franchise isn’t called 007. It’s called JAMES BOND!

I could not agree more. My point in saying is that there should absolutely never be any scenario where this woman carries on as 007 unless there is yet another movie where Craig plays Bond and is not 007 for some reason.

I don't see any scenario where this cast continues without Craig though. Absolutely no way. Dench's M and Desmond Q get the only pass at this. Craig's continuity is too tight.

I will in no shape or form EVER continue a franchise where James Bond is not 007. It has nothing to do with a black female lead actress - I have no interest in a franchise with Bond removed from it thank you very much.

This is nothing but a publicity stunt to generate interest in the new film- it has had a lot of bad press lately if you haven't noticed

You have zero credibility after misreading those sandbox posts. You're misreading a lot of what's being said in this thread too.

Misreading is fine, so long as you back it up with an argument. But no, you're happy to throw the isms around as though the accusation alone obviates you from having to engage in any way that's constructive or meaningful. 8 posts in this thread and just about every one of them provocative and hostile.

What's happening to my wonderful escapist male fantasy figure? Why does any woman even want to be a part of this male escapist fare? They never did when I was growing up. I'd watch Bond, they'd watch Steel Magnolias or something. Life was balanced. I'm not demanding a male version of Steel Magnolias, am I?

Anyway, jokes aside, I really don't see this "00" reassignment as much more than, as has been said, a publicity stunt for a franchise that is once again in a downward trend.

Loosing his number and having to earn it back is actually a novel way to frame a story.

They could just copy James and make her a female misogynistic who uses men and women to get the job done.

They should have her slap women around everywhere she goes maybe even slap some men lol

Speak for yourself. I want a version of the Notebook where I can imagine the hottest chick on the planet building me a ****ing house.

If we don't get an asian man playing Wonder Woman teased by the end of this year i'm filing a law suit.

Well now that we are making all of our characters black or people of color can we please direct this energy to religious movies. I’m sure a Black Jesus movie would be amazing. Prince of Egypt had black characters and to this day I believe it’s the best biblical movie of all time.

Or we can just ..... idk turn it up a notch and have future movies be cgi people.

I think from now on all "movie people" should be blue. Takes the race problem right out. We can all admire blue.

Male/female is still going to be a problem.

And babies... I mean, everyone hates babies, why are they even allowed in movies? They ruin everything, are demanding, selfish, and can't act worth squat.

I’m all for this as I’m hoping this is finally the push we need to get a man to play Wonder Woman.

I get where you’re coming from believe me but I think what they’re trying to point out is that males have been at the forefront of cinema for so many decades that your Leia, Marion Ravenwood, Sarah Connor, Ripley, Furiosa and the Bride stick out like sore thumbs instead of them just being one of the many strong female leads just like Indy is just one of the many thousands of male leads.

I think having a male WW would just be spiteful is what i’m saying.

Look at the end of the day Hollywood doesn’t do these things unless they think there will be a return on their investment so they’re obviously sitting on collected data that is saying give a black female the 007 title at this moment in time but if they get Ghostbusters levels of money loss you can quickly say goodbye to a black female 007.
