I've finally seen this and loved it. Watched the original afterwards. Didn't like it as much as Maverick but I liked it too.

Was going to call this the best movie of 2022, but after looking back through the past few years... gonna say since 2016.

There's been a couple of other good films here and there, but nothing I've walked out of feeling so damn satisfied and upbeat.

Yeah I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I wasn't sure what to expect, as I hadn't seen the first one, but it really landed well for me. Great film.
Watched the first one the following weekend and thought it aged really well.

For me it's in the top 2, but I think Avengers Infinity War is the best. It was a culmination of ten years of MCU films that amazingly tied it all together so well. It's only daylight between the two and then a gap after Maverick.

Agree with you here. I loved Maverick and have seen it half a dozen times but as you said, it's a hair behind Infinity War. I think of it as the MCU's Empire Strikes Back...

I think Maverick might be my favorite film since LOTR. Which is insane because I loved The Batman, IW, EG, RO and now AWOW so freaking much.

2022 has been an absolutely insane year for movies!

Yeah pretty much agree, Maverick is the best thing since IW/Endgame for me but IW is probably my fav of the past 6-ish years.

Maverick, Everything Everywhere, The Batman, X, Prey, BP2, Northman are the top for me this year.

Saw this last night, and yeah it was as expected, cheesy, predictable, but a whole lotta fun. Cruise may be madder than a box of frogs, but is one of the best actors out there. The scene with Val choked me up!
The direction was top notch as well and the Ariel scenes, whoa Momma!

There are a lot of relatively recent films I loved -- Rogue One, IW and Endgame, The Batman -- but Maverick is a welcome throwback to a movie going experience I haven't had in a long time.

No Postmodern irony, no knowing winks, just sincerity and popcorn.

I thought Endgame was really good. It wasn't as good as Infinity War, but it was close, and it was a fantastic way to end the Infinity Saga - I really don't understand the hate. Highlander 2 is a much worse film than Endgame, and heck, Highlander one is worse than Endgame.

IMDb has both movies at 8.4/10 from over a million ratings each, however IW is ranked #63 and EG is ranked #78 of best movies of all time.
FYI TGM is also 8.4/10, but ranked #87 all-time - personally I like TGM slightly more than EG, but the general audience at this stage does not.

IW is the better made film but EG is designed to be fun and it is. You can’t compare those films to the Highlander films I don’t think! I love the first HL even though it’s ridiculous and tbh I haven’t seen the second one, my mates told me not to!!

The second film is horrible, so don't watch it! I didn't know any better when I watched it back in the day as there was no IMDb or even internet to warn me. Just pretend the first one exists in isolation like I do with the Star Wars OT and the first three Indiana Jones movies.

Crystal Skull is in a category all its own. I don’t know of another film that just seems to have completely been erased from existence. Listening to podcasts or reading articles they talk about the three Indiana Jones films and when I took my kids to see the films at the cinema last year they didn’t even include Crystal Skull!

I’m baffled by the love of this film. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good but really just a carbon copy of the first movie. Another The Force Awakens if you will. Albeit a much better movie than that one.

I said in another post I like all the Mission Impossible movies (minus MI2) more than this one as far as Tom Cruise movies go. Slap Edge of Tomorrow in there also.

I’m not knocking the film. It’s a really well done Hollywood blockbuster but it just followed the beats of the first film a little too closely for me to ever be considered great.

Having said that I have only seen it once so I may have had my expectations a tad too high. Would not be the first time that happened and I 2nd viewing may be what I need.

Ya see, you don’t deserve Endgame. If that film was Hulk porn like it is for Cap… No way would a film like TG:M even get a sniff of being my fav film sine LOTR
