To stand or not that is the question

Never. Why pay hundreds of dollars for an exacting replica only to ruin any illusion of reality by attaching a cheap plastic stand to it?

Well the hundreds of dollars part is a clue.....

I think it's clear that inferior, small-peen collectors use stands, while more discerning, well-hung collectors do not.

it's clear that well-hung people don't collect at all and live a full life, while small-peen collectors waste their life playing with dolls because they have no friends.
all photos of "my" collections are fakes, distributed by small-peen lonely enemies.

:lol :lol :lol

Of Course!

When that dolly falls to the floor, it's going to be painful. For you.

I actually buy the smaller stands, with Evil's stickers (shameless plug) , so I can fit more figure into a detolf shelf. The Ht stands are HUGE and limit posing groups of figure together.

I have Bane , Joker and Batman all on the same shelf with room for one more......

I do not trust a figure to stand on its own...

i guess i was the first and the last one to mention that stands allow using non-museum poses.

So those in favor of stands how do you feel about power poses (e.g. Ironman)

If you have a shelf unit that sits on the floor, on carpet, in a high traffic area, then stands help a lot. My detolfs move around a little due to people walking by them. On a rare occasion someone might bump into them. If it weren't for figures stands, my figures would probably fall over a lot. I like dynamic poses, not museum poses. So the easiest way to make the figures more stable is to add a stand. Even my Threezero Raphael seemed to want to fall over from time to time before I added a small stand under him. I'd rather use stands than have to repose my figures all of the time. I also use stands for my 1/4 scale figures that are on top of the detolfs. The 1/4 NECA figures seemed to fall over a lot before I added stands to them.

I'm a no stand guy...I can't stand stands! but just a personal preference.

I hate seeing something around the waste or worse right in the crotch! To me it is distracting. Now it is true, it does limit the figures being posed dynamically, but that's the trade off. If I cannot get it to stand on it's own, I just find another pose. Most of my figures are in museum pose anyway.

But on occasion I do hear a "thud" and one of the figures takes a nose dive off the shelf. Mostly SW figures, but my HT Thor also has weak knees. But most of the time I don't have a problem with them falling.

Stands all the way. I have an old house with bouncy wood floors, so a room shakes when someone walks through it. Not to mention I have 4 cats, one of which knocked off and broke the 1:6 ark of the covenant from a wall-mounted shelf! :cuss

With the small stand you can be pretty creative on non-museum poses...

i managed not to post viagra pills photo while the thread was merely about "my figure stands firmly by itself" or "every figure needs some help to stand straight".

but this is too much to avoid the association:

With the small stand you can be pretty creative

repped the post without hesitation.

Stands. I broke my DX10 PERS because it was standing on it's own. Never again.

I use stands on most of my figs. The only ones stand free are my 3Z GOT figs, 3Z Heisenberg, and my three BCS Dr. Who figures. I honestly use the standard to achieve most of my poses, especially fluid walking stances, so I usually can overlook them because they're hidden well that way. I have wanted to look into clear acrylic substitute posts, as that would be hard to see AND provide support.

Ahem...:wink

I find that nothing short of miraculous.

Good planning, actually. I bought some proper shop display units, they're fully enclosed and weigh about 60kg each. Nothing short of an earthquake is going to make anything move, and if an earthquake hits, I've got bigger things to worry about. Like structural damage to my house. :D

Have to agree with this.

You can buy a special type of gel that you attach to the soles of your figure and it stops them from falling. Causes no damage to the shelf or figure.
