I personally consider Saw 1 more of a thriller myeslf but it really does boarder between horror and thriller so really both can be considered correct imo. Besides most people consider it horror anyways.

Just because you don't know who the killer is, it does not mean it's a thriller. Friday the 13th was a whodunit as well.

Saw - psychotic killer dumps victims into devices that will kill them unless they do horrific tasks to escape...gutting an alive human to get a key, for example. Sounds like horror to me.

EDIT - Manglord, it's called a discussion. Apparently you don't give a uckf so no need for you to comment any further. Off you go. :wave

In that case I guess Se7en can be considered horror as the killer forces his victims to either cut off a pound of their own flesh, disfigure their face or eat spaghetti sauce until their stomach bursts etc. Again Saw and Se7en have a very similar concept and story. Both are about a detective(s) searching for a serial killer who tortures their victims in sadistic ways etc but most consider Se7en a psychological thriller and Saw a horror.

You make a very good argument.

I would say the difference between Saw and Seven is that Seven is MORE than just a story about the murders. At its heart, it's a story about two cops at completely different ends of their career who grow to respect and genuinely care for each other. Their interaction is what drives the movie.

Saw is all about the elaborate murder set-pieces, the cutting through the ankle, the gutting of the live person, the traps set to prevent entry.

At its core, Seven is about Det. Mills and Det. Somerset. Saw is about Jigsaw.

You make a great argument aswell my friend.

Se7en definately has more heart I will agree. Also add to the the fact that in Saw the killer wears a costume adds more to the horror element but as you said Jigsaw's methods are very elaborate just like Jon Doe in Se7en and they're not just elaborate in the way they kill but in their minds as well. Both killers are very methodical and patiant in what they do (Jigsaw painstakingly creating his traps and props by hand then setting everything into motion and John Doe writing all his thoughts on hundreds of diaries for years etc).

Like I said both films are very simmilar in story and characters (both Mills and Det. Tapp become vigiantes in the end, both are hunting a very brilliant killer etc), the main difference as you pointed out is Se7en the plot revolves more around Mills and Somerset where Saw even though much fo the focus is on Dr. Gordon and Adam, in the end it is essentially about Jigsaw. One can easily make an argument that Saw is more a horror film just as much as it is a thriller. It definatley has the elements to be considered either.

So, by your logic, the following are not horror:

Halloween (just a man, not a creature)

Psycho
Friday the 13th (Pamela Voorhees was no creature)
The Shining
Session 9
Black Christmas
Audition
Inside
Scream Trilogy

Those are the ones I could think of off the top of my head. In all of them, the killer is a mortal man (or woman). Michael didn't get supernatural until the sequels.

Michael wasnt really a man. He WAS the boogyman. He lived through more then a human can take.

Slasher is its own Genre imo....kinda.

Also, the reason I dont count Saw as a horror, is that its not all about the gore....there is bearly any gore in the movie. Violence? Yes. But compared to the other sequels? No way. Saw is more story then torture porn.

Land Of The Dead

Worst movie ever IMO!..i would rather put my nuts in a vice and turn then watch that again.

Uwe Boll's 'Alone in the Dark' and 'House of the Dead' both take the crap cake of 'Worst Horror Movie Ever Made' for me. What's funny is I didn't even watch those. :lol Whatever Uwe Boll touches, it turns into $h!t. :sick

I agree with this, and I have to say that my
vote for the WORST horror film is, drum roll please,
RZ's Halloween II

RZ destroyed Michael as the boogyman and turned
him into a grunting A-Hole.

This flic sucked

Land Of The Dead

Worst movie ever IMO!..i would rather put my nuts in a vice and turn then watch that again.

I can stand land of the dead...However, I cannot stand Diary of the Dead. I will never ever in my life understand how that got such praise from so many horror fans.

They're both terrible. But Diary is worse, no doubt.

I'll never forget how excited I was before seeing Land, then afterwards, when I walked out of the theater I was just numb. I waited 20 years to see a total bore. Greg Nicotero is no Tom Savini, that's for sure.

I also thought both the Big Daddy character and Robert Joy's character were beyond stupid and TERRIBLY acted.

Rob Zombie's Halloween 2. This movie completely ruined the Halloween legacy. I know, the last 2 Halloween movies was great but H2 was beyond horrible. The movie lack direction, story, characterization.

Bloody Moon by Joe D'Amato A boredfest.

Savage Weekend this 70's crap was nowhere near savage and it featured the ugliest women ever on screen. In one scene you can clearly see the boom mike. LOL!!! The acting makes Rob Zombie's look like a genuise.

The Last House on the Left Remake I cant believe i actually like the movie when i first seen it in the theaters. I tried to watched it Sunday night. I just made it until the killers arrived at the parent's summer house. This movie is way to lame and tame to be called Last house on the left. I couldn't except a group of killers having a girl escape or tried to escape from them 3 times. It make no sense. These are supposedly career killers/crinimals and they cant even keep a stupid girl hostage. After the uncle was killed I turned it off. The movie was totally pointless.

The Omen remake. Nuff said.

Horror. One of the worst movies I've ever seen. It was just terrible.....there are no redeeming qualities anywhere in the movie.

Wendigo. The worst movie I've ever seen. This movie right here guaranteed that, if I ever meet Larry Fessenden, I am fighting him. I came out of this movie wanting to physically harm him. There's just no excuse for it.

Yeah, I haven't seen REC but have heard praise for it. It might be better honestly but I don't think I'll hate Quarantine after seeing REC.

I have seen both,REC is better but Quarantine is not bad. There is 1 HUGE difference though, the ending...and i like REC`s better.
