she was hidden on Jakku after the massacre at the Jedi Temple. But wouldn't it make just as much sense to assume she could have been hidden since Jedi are not supposed to be in love or have children. Yes, Anakin does it anyway and Luke has no council to answer to but it would still make sense that he'd want his padawans to focus on training and not falling in love and he'd be setting a bad example to have his own child running around the Temple.

Nah. I don't think Luke would bother with any of that old school Jedi Council BS. Aside from never really being exposed to it (other than Yoda telling him to let his friends die), it was love and attachment that destroyed the Emperor. Forbidding, concealing and denying it led to Anakin's downfall. I think it makes much more sense that

What good are jedi anyway, honestly. Seems like there's always gotta be someone who turns to the darkside and ****s everything up. I'm thinking everyone would be better off if no one at all was trained in the force. Dooku turned on Yoda, Anakin turned on Obi-wan and now Ren turned on Luke. Just forget the whole Jedi enterprise, it's not worth it. Let armies and fleets protect peace and justice in the galaxy.

Actually.... it is very very rare Jedi turn on there masters. Before Order 66 there were 10,000 Jedi. Counting Dooku and Anakin and then a few oddballs from the EU, the turn rate was like .0010%

I think the ban on merchandise of them may have been lifted. Old Han Solo Funko has been revealed. So I think pretty soon. I don't think we will see any figures of Snoke though because

we don't know his height. Is he really that tall in the projection? Or he is average size? 8 feet tall? I don't think Disney would want a figure to ruin the eventual reveal.

Honestly, I'm just tired of the Empire being in control, seemingly, all the time. I'd really like to see a scenario where the first order start retreating back to their "Eagle's Nest," and the Jedi and the Resistance have them on the run. It'd be awesome to see the good guys take the offensive, for once.

What does everyone think of the Rey and Finn relationship? Future couple like Han/Leia? Just friends? Brother/sister like bond?

I thought they were hinting at a future relationship, but for some reason the ending made me think they'll end up being friends.

I would really like to see Han at least teased if not fully revealed before New Years. I thought we'd have him well up for PO by now, same for Poe. Really can't wait to see JC Hong's paintwork on Oscar Isaac's sculpt.

could Rey beat Kylo? The force was dormant after Luke's disappearance and the slaughtering of his order. A ripple in the force occurred on Jakku. Granting Rey newfound knowledge and abilities.

After decompressing for a day a few more random musings:

Spoiler:

1. As an old school Robotech fan I loved the similarity between Poe Dameron and Max Sterling, the Starkiller weapon with the Grand Cannon, and Supreme Leader Snoke with Dolza. Fighters skimming over water was also a cool vintage "Robotech-ism."

2. An aspect of the 32 year gap between ROTJ and TFA that I really like is that with so much time between trilogies we basically get this huge new untold backstory of everything that happened after ROTJ. So it's like ANH all over again with these familiar characters that we still get to re-experience with "new" histories. As opposed to seeing a story about what they did a few weeks or months after ROTJ where their backstory would be old hat.

3. Of all SW sequels only ESB and TFA dared to introduce pretty much all new aliens from beginning to end. ROTJ and the PT recycled many aliens from previous films. But that wasn't how ESB did it, and it was a kick to get all new denizens of the various new worlds again.

4. I *loved* Nien Numb as an X-Wing pilot, he was so cool!

5. I really liked how, like ANH, the Resistance really felt bigger than the heroes. Like Poe and the gang were really firing on all cylinders and moved on their own independent of what the "invincible" main heroes did (and obviously the heroes were anything but invincible in TFA.)

6. Once again I just can't believe that TFA needs nothing but the unaltered OT as setup. I even went out of my way to marathon the PT + OT, trying to get myself to like the PT more (even though I'm probably already more forgiving of it than most) prior to TFA and all I'll ever need going forward is just Harmy and TFA. Fantastic!

7. Rey climbing down that wall of the manufactured chasm in the Starkiller base and hiding in that chamber as real on-set Stormtroopers patrolled above was SO gloriously "Star Wars" with its vertigo inducing scale.

8. Thank GOD they finally retired the Wilhelm scream (though it'd hardly be a deal breaker if it was there and I simply missed it.)

9. So many happy surprises in how well the character dynamics played. Poe and Finn's back and forths with each other were real highlights, as was Han and "Big Deal" (lol) as well. I'd even say that Finn was the biggest surprise in how much I liked his character.

10. Kylo Ren is just an awesome character. Flawed in a way that makes him both interesting and incredibly unpredictable. He seemed to have this rage throughout the film but always stopped short of killing his own men (unlike Vader,) instead taking out his aggression on Resistance sympathizers or whatever inanimate objects were within reach. After taking that final step (in killing Han) which apparently was a real threshold for him as he seemed to indicate now I wonder if after killing his dad he's just going to be comfortable with murdering people left and right.

10. Derivative of a Death Star it might have been but that Starkiller base was just freaky to me. Blowing up six planets at once from several solar systems away? Yikes. And as confident as Poe's squadron was in taking it out I still found myself a bit nervous as they were dive bombing the planet.

11. I just found Han, Leia, and Luke's portrayals to be so tastefully done. I was really worried that we might see another KOTCS with them just feeling wrong and me being embarrassed for them, especially Leia. Thank God she wasn't another "old Marion."

12. I'm so excited for parts 2 and 3 but can't help but assume that ANH, ESB, ROTJ, and TFA will always be a cut above because they feature the core trio of Han, Luke, and Leia. Not that Rey, Finn and Poe aren't totally capable in picking up the torch but the original three heroes will always be the purest form of SW to me (though I'm open to having that change.)

An aspect of the 32 year gap between ROTJ and TFA that I really like is that with so much time between trilogies we basically get this huge new untold backstory of everything that happened after ROTJ.

That's actually one of my main annoyances. Up till now all pivotal events in the saga have been covered in the "episodes". The only way they can show Ren's downfall and Luke's exile now is via flashbacks.

They aren't in control though. The New Republic won and they have been hiding for many years only to reappear. They never battled against the republic, only minor skirmishes against the Resistance. Although they destroyed the Republic, they are still in the middle rim trying to grasp control of the major planets at the core and inner rim. The Resistance and what is left of the Republic stand in the First Orders way of achieving complete galactic conquest. I think Episode 8 and 9 will be total war.

Yup, I really don't like the idea of Jedi, "light side" and "dark side" anymore. The force just seems like a farce, like cartoon superhero stuff with distinct "power levels" and such.


Characters like Han, Lando, Chewbacca, Boba Fett, Jango Fett, Poe Dameron, etc. have the right idea. Luke would have been better off just walking away from the whole Jedi thing after the defeat of the Emperor and Vader.
