This has nothing to do with the crappy remake right?

Remake, reimagining, whatever the hell it was.... hopefully not. I prefer the real thing as opposed to torture porn.

See, when this stuff happens to characters I don't care a whit about, it becomes torture porn. This just totally missed the, well.. the magic of the first one. Oh well, lightning in a bottle is hard to recreate.

A cool Bruce Campbell PF would be righteous, though.

I enjoyed the new film, and I'm waiting on them to do Evil Dead 2/Army of Darkness 2 and then the film where Mia and Ash meet.

Yup! I haven't even seen the new one. Skipped it after seeing the trailers

I have said it again in here but the new one is fantastic. It isn't better or worse than the original or Evil Dead 2 but it is pretty awesome. There isn't a movie in this franchise that disappoints.

I HAVE seen it; I was really looking forward to it, because of the trailers. It wasn't awful, nor was it great - it was just a lot of gratuitous gore happening to cinematic people that I did not "know" and hence didn't care about.

Here's the thing: I am not really sure you CAN have Evil Dead without Bruce Campbell. That would be like remaking the original Star Wars and leaving out Darth Vader. There we would be, wondering "what is the point of all this?!" and that is very much how I felt about the ED remake.

Was Van Halen any good once David Lee Roth left? Rhetorical question only.

So hopefully they will be sticking with the original films for this product line.

I liked the reboot film of Evil Dead as well. It played a good homage to the original 2 films from time to time, had a good enough twist and was oddly beautiful in some shots that should not have been beautiful at all. It stands a part from the original films of the franchise and is an interesting new chapter for the Evil Dead series IMO. I still love all the original films but I'm not opposed to continuing on within a universe to see where others will take it.

The first Evil Dead film was quite gory, bloody and at times disturbing but folks seem to forget those aspects to the film. Maybe because Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness overshadowed the first film?

Well said!! Agreed, I really like the new one mostly because it was good and didn't take anything from the originals.

I would die for a serious take on AOD! :rock

The best thing about AoD was being hilariously corny and mixing horror and medieval. Great film all around d.

1. First ED movie was indeed quite disturbing in spots. That's one reason I liked it.

2. I get where you [and others] are coming from: for instance, I am a huge OS Star Trek fan who will quite happily watch the reboot films. The OS was something completely different, but the new films are fun. They are not cast against type, and they're just silly over-the-top, which in a way I find quite enjoyable. The main thing that gets my OCD going is Spock and Uhura have a thing going now....? That's really jarring and not true to the source material in a huge way, but I just shove that aside and enjoy stuff like Khan crashing a starship into Starfleet HQ. A true Whiskey Tango Foxtrot moment if there ever was one.

But yeah. Continuation can be good, unless you are talking about that $#@&ing Burton Dark Shadows film.... but that is a rant for another time.

I'd like to see that, too. I just dunno if we can do that without BRUCE, because he MADE that film what it is, and I am not remembering one single person from the remake who could step up and wave that boomstick like it deserves to be waved.
