Re: Did they mention a limited run or sky's the limit?

Sounds like Hasbro just let Sidesshow in on licensing rights. Hasbro had previously announced that they didn't want to continue the 12" line.

re

Here's a glimpse of the 12" Anakin (Mustafar, I presume)...the porn version. :lol

Sideshow 12" Anakin

But which characters will make up the line?

The promotional artwork suggests Anakin Skyalker is a sure bet, but we've also been told that Sideshow has plans for both the Classic and Prequel Trilogies. PLUS, the company has said they will run a poll on their site so that fans can vote which character from the Expanded Universe they'd like to see made.

fan choice figures...sweet.

Re: re

EU characters? SWEET!

Darth Revan!
Quinlan Vos!
Oh there are so many!

How about just every character that every wielded a Lightsaber! (Yes, even Hoth Han!) :drool

Re: re

It's not really TEAMING with Hasbro. It's not like we're going to see Sideshow figures at Walmart. It's the same Sideshow type figures and edition sizes, but it's 1/6 STAR WARS!

was it just me, or did sideshow's press release have a little too much hasbro butt kissing in it?:lol

is sideshow really "teaming" with hasbro, or did they really just pay them off to get 12 inch rights?

"teaming" would kinda indicate sideshow would make stuff and put it in a hasbro box.

as for edition sizes, i don't think 6000 vaders would work. they're gonna have to produce a lot more figures to meet demand.

i could understand limited runs of EU figures, and maybe those could be sideshow website exclusives, but hopefully sideshow won't make the mistake of making only 2000-5000 pieces of core characters.

Re: re

I'd imagine 10,000 units at most, even of Darth.

And that promotional image doesn't have anything to do with Anakin, it's just an Art Buck in a jedi robe. But I'm sure we'll 3 different Christianson Anakins as well as every other incarnation of Vader.

Re: re

it's just an Art Buck in a jedi robe

technically, that's a cloak like luke wore in ROTJ. jedi robes have sleeves, except for anakin's episode 2 robe, which just had slits for his arms.

anyway, i'm so happy sideshow is doing this line. their jedi clothes will be awesome. hopefully they can shrink their premium format ben, luke and han heads down to 1/6th.

i just hope they can release figures a little quicker than they have in the past.

Comic Con: Sideshow Collectibles Update
Posted by Dave on July 14, 2005:

Obtaining the license to produce a 1/6th scale Star Wars line was a tough task, but Sideshow’s determination won the day. After working on this for quite some time, they were finally able to prove to Lucasfilm that what they would produce would be in a league of its own and. Where Hasbro’s 12" license is to produce childrens’ toys in large quantities for mass distribution, the Sideshow license is for producing highly detailed limited edition collectible dolls specifically for the detail oriented adult collector. That said, you should expect the average Sideshow price for the exceptional quality we have grown to love from this company.

The line will utilize Sideshow’s amazingly articulate bodies and will sport dead on costumes and accessories. Needless to say, these ain gonna be like yer pappy’s Hasbro 12” dolls!

Sideshow will be paying close attention to what their audience wants them to produce, and will look into setting up online polls to determine what to make for us. The line will not be exclusive to film characters either, so fans of the Expanded Universe can start saving their nickels right now. Sideshow is currently planning on selling the EU figures exclusively on their website. The Rebelscum team has already nudged our friends at Sideshow to think about a Mara Jade figure, but time will tell whether they make it.

The best part about this announcement is that Sideshow is as excited as we are about these toys, so rest easy. We’re in for a treat!

In addition to the 12” line, Sideshow told us a bit more about the 1/4 scale line:

Following with their exclusives, the 1/4 scale General Grievous will sport a cape exclusively on the Sideshow.com version. That means you won’t find this one at the collector shops.

The Darth Vader shown at SDCC is a vast improvement over the one we saw at Toy Fair this year, now with a thicker body and better detailing. The figure features not only a light up saber, but also a light up chest box and belt! A nice touch since the actual costume in A New Hope had the lights, but it was decided not to use them for the filming. Before you say ‘but wait, I remember the costume having lights’, think back to the Original Trilogy, and you’ll see that the costume was only lit up in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of The Jedi.

Lastly, Sideshow’s 1/1 scale Darth Maul bust was sculpted based on the detailed Lucasfilm photos used for make up continuity during the filming of The Phantom Menace. No detail was overlooked, including the stud earring that Ray Park wore while performing Darth Maul… A detail that made the sculptor go back and double check the film to insure it wasn’t a blemish on the photos!

Re: 1:6 Star Wars

This license announcement is the first thing to whet my interest in Sideshow for some time. I've been consolidating my collection -- selling the things I have no room to display on eBay.

About a month ago I resolved to not get into the SW 1:4 line after all (I already have 5 premium format figs and a sixth, the Wolfman, on order), and cancelled my pre-orders. It wasn't the bucks; it was sudden realism about display space. With a 1:6 line coming, I'll get to reconsider.

Though there's one new photo of the 1:4 Obi-Wan that looks like Guinness, for the most part I find the likenesses of Ben and Han to be pretty unconvincing. I hope Oluf gets a shot at the 1:6 sculpts, or hulkfan.

At long last, my Medicom Vader is on its way. I'll try to post photos of the Medicom Luke and Vader with the Marmit Stormtrooper then.

Re: Did they mention a limited run or sky's the limit?

our goal is to enhance, expand, and update the amazing collection that Hasbro has offered

Does this mean that SideShow wont make any of the main characters?

Re: Did they mention a limited run or sky's the limit?

No it doesnt it just means the sky is the limit! And the figures will be limited like normal 1/6 releases from Sideshow. Also a little tid bit fans will be doing the choosing of EU characters and will be taken through the steps of the process of the character design. So we will see pictures of them being sculpted ect from the begining to the end.
Very cool idea.

Re: Did they mention a limited run or sky's the limit?

Wow, that is very cool! It makes sense with the EU characters, with the exception of Lucas film Licensing, Sideshow doesn't need to get approval from any actors.
I just hope we get to at least have Mara Jade, Asajj Ventress, Aalya Secura, Quinlan Vos, Prince Xizor, and Kir Kanos.
Also, didn't Leia become a Jedi at some point in the EU? I could've sworn I've seen her wield a Lightsaber.

Re: Did they mention a limited run or sky's the limit?

gob, Obi and Han are the best likenesses every seen for these characters. Check out the pics all over the web taken at SDCC.

Re: Did they mention a limited run or sky's the limit?

Well if it looks like Sideshow wont be getting the Indiana Jones licence for some time, they would want to have a high edition size for Han. Oh yeah. :hat It will save me having to buy one of the SW model kits just to get his head. Woo Hoo.
