Please, you obviously knew what you were doing. You've had your Halloween sig/avi forever and then you suddenly decide to put a massive spoiler image in your sig? Millions of people haven't seen the movie and there's an open spoiler thread separate from this one. Damage done. Thanks.

And yeah I know it's partially my fault for coming in here but considering there is a spoiler-specific thread and most people here seem considerate about tags it's pretty clear it wasn't an innocent misunderstanding. I guess after 6 years I finally figured out why people use the ignore function.

Yeah, I discovered that a while back as well. Sorry about pic, yeah I knew it was controversial, but I also thought anyone with a passing interest and seen it by now, since it's EVERYWHERE and half the world has seen it.
But My bad. Sorry..Personally I avoided all Prometheus forums and boards for the last 3 weeks because EVERYTHING was out there even before the UK/Europe release.

My question still stands though, why is it different for US rather than UK/Europe viewers?

Not a typo, a speculation. And definitely not my world view.

In my opinion just one somewhat fitting theory when we account the whole creation aspect of the story.

Main problem with engineers hating mankind because of David is we have no evidence they ever knew about androids such as him before David speaks to the jockey that rips his head off. So it doesn't really explain why they targeted earth for termination some 2000 years ago, remember the holograms. We already have cloned sheep and other animals, selectively bred species and so on, why would they be pissed because mechanical being that can't even reproduce?
Could be the engineer was pissed of anyways and David being foolish to speak their language was the last straw. I think the writers just wanted a headless android to riff with Alien.

Yes, exactly, they were going to destroy the earth approximately 2000 years ago according to Shaws data. That completely eliminates any potbelly interesting story lines about man getting too advanced for its own good.
And also why bother with the star map if the were gonna wipe us out thousands of years before we had the tech to travel there. I tell ya, this script is a complete mess. Written on a cigarette packet whilst they were drinking tequila.

It's too velociraptory.

The pic of his back and the back of his head is perfect. It looks so alien. So Giger, so sick and twisted and creepy...

Then in the other two, it looks like a dinosaur.

I think the biggest issue I'm going to have with the movie is the lack of Giger. When you compare this dinoalien to the original..well..you can't compare them. There really isn't anything memorable or original about this one. He doesn't seem to have the mechanical aspect of biomechanical. Which is somthing I would like to see...

But hey, he is technically a chestburster. And chestbursters don't have as much of a mechanical look as the full grown Alien, so...

I haven't seen the movie yet though, so maybe this is all wrong.

I missed the part where they planed to destroy earth 2000 years ago? If anything the accident that killed the Engineers seemed more recent than that? I need to watch it again, probably Saturday.

I didn't mean to say that you meant that, sorry if it came out the wrong way. I was thinking about the reasons why the engineers might hate earthlings and your post just provoked that line of thinking.

Shaw carbon dated the headless jockey to have died about 2000 years ago. And weren't the big pile of dead engineers at that branch of the caves also, the entrance to the ship being in the exact opposite direction? I could be wrong about that though, but it could imply that the last living jockey had something to do with others trying to escape.

The holo we see at the navigation room must be from before that event. But not really after it since surely there would be more engineers sleeping then, if they for some reason would not have left for earth right away.

No, it looks pretty brilliant in the movie. It's little perfect white human teeth are really horrible (in a good way). I just wish it had some context. It's just stuck in there for no good reason.
But you are right about the lack of Giger, sorely missed. The more mechanical design they went for wasn't half as interesting.

David used some machinery to start them.
First on the cave wall (touch based carving-like markings), later in the navigation room (squishy buttons). Carvings on the wall had some greenish goo on them by the way, no idea what that was - it was never explained.

Probably yes, no other explanation comes to mind.

The projection technology was interesting, when jockeys ran trough David some kind of particles were trailing them and seemed to get "stuck" on him for a moment. Was it just cave dust or something half physical material used for projection is a mystery to me.
What really was odd is that in the navigation room these same kind of holograms were actually using physical devices in real time and activating systems. This is how David learns to use their technology.
If I'm not mistaken one of the holograms actually turns a chair when sitting on it to reach navigational controls. Hmm. I never actually thought much about this, thank you for pointing this out to me. It's interesting.

When David is dying his hair whilst watching Lawrence of Arabia. It's wet/white at the sides and then it's dry and then it's wet again. Bizarre error.

No problem it's all speculation on my part anyway. I don't think we will truly know why the Engineers wanted to destroy Earth 2000 years ago? It could be Shaw finds out she was wrong about them in the sequel. It seems to me that this unanswered question of their motives has been placed there on purpose anyway, it's a good way of making people want to see a sequel to get answers.
