Obama to Plumber: My Plan Will 'Spread the Wealth Around'
Barack Obama told a tax-burdened plumber over the weekend that his economic philosophy is to "spread the wealth around" -- a comment that may only draw fire from riled-up John McCain supporters who have taken to calling Obama a "socialist" at the Republican's rallies.

Obama made the remark, caught on camera, after fielding some tough questions from the plumber Sunday in Ohio, where the Democratic candidate canvassed neighborhoods and encouraged residents to vote early.

"Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn't it?" the plumber asked, complaining that he was being taxed "more and more for fulfilling the American dream."

"It's not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they've got a chance for success too," Obama responded. "My attitude is that if the economy's good for folks from the bottom up, it's gonna be good for everybody ... I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."

Obama frequently rails against what he calls a Republican concept that tax breaks for the wealthy will somehow "trickle down" to middle-class Americans.

Man I really can't wait till this election is over...so we can stop with the "my candidate is better than yours" junk and deal with who we're left with and get to work fixing this mess, beit with McCain or Obama.

November 4 can't come soon enough!

Awesome post.

McCain has played word games with a lot of stuff as well. So both are doing it but in the long run I think the "actual" end of Obama's stuff will be better for the Middle/lower class.

Are you willing to admit that McCain has done this as well Spartan or do you believe he's telling the whole truth? :lol

I believe the Wall St. Journal is better qualified to judge Obamas tax plan than you are. Sorry, its true Josh.:monkey3

Only the Lower class. The Middle class is going to take it in the shorts.

I totally disagree.

Man I really can't wait till this election is over...so we can stop with the "my candidate is better than yours" junk and deal with who we're left with and get to work fixing this mess, beit with McCain or Obama.

I know. I'm so sick of everything its not even funny. There's no point talking about it anymore.

Same here bro. I'm so sick of the antagonistic posts, the poo flinging and the claims against each candidate.

Why don't we all just chill out, stop blasting each other and the candidates... and just cast our freakin votes? I mean, hoodonit will still vote McCain. Barbelith will still vote Obama... NOTHING anybody posts here on this board will change minds to vote the other way.

People have their opinions, people have their personal hypothesis for what tax policy will help the American people. Nothing will change that.

So let's just stop bickering, stop attacking everyone who is our polar political opposite... and just vote and be done with it.

This is what I was talking about. You simply can't give an opinion on anything without some smug ass retort from the other side.

I'm sure they know all the numbers better but I was simply saying despite the word games the "actual" end will help folks better.

Are you gonna answer my question Rex? Probably not.

Based on...?

The numbers I've looked at from non biased sites. Some of what he's saying isn't what I like but the majority of what he says I think will help those in the MC.

Same here bro. I'm so sick of the antagonistic posts, the poo flinging and the claims against each candidate.

I know. I've really gotta bite my keyboard at anymore and its little thing like Spartan's BS post above. I'm really having to walk away so I don't type something that will get deleted.

Cmon the wall street journal, who do u think that paper is written for. The only person i know who reads that is my stuck up cousin.

The chance was there with Romney and the Republican party boo'ed him out, so what does that tell you.

That the Base of the Republican party are people who identify themselves as Evangelicals and are (by and large) biased against anyone who is not One Of Them. When given a choice between McCain, who they dismissed in 2000, and Romney, who is by their views not a real Christian, they went with McCain -- yet they didn't really embrace him until he chose One Of Them to be his V.P. It is because of the Republican Base that McCain couldn't choose Lieberman or Romney, both of them being infinitely more qualified to be on the ticket than Palin.

The foundation for the Republican Base was laid by Reagan but was cemented during Newt Gingrich's "Contract with America" campain thing in the 90s. It is what made Bush competetive enough in 2000 and it's what put him just over the top in 2004.

:clap :clap :clap

Excellent post. The only thing scarier than a democrat run Congress [with a whopping 9% approval rating] lead by whack-jobs Pelosi, Reid, and Frank is a democrat run Congress and a socialist president at the helm. If Chairman Mao-bama wins this election it's going to make the Carter years seem like a stroll in the park.

No matter who is in office, things will stay the same or get worse, i'm afraid. Doubt either of the two will make a difference. Time to start buying guns!!;):D canned foods are good as well!:D

I agree!

I'm just gonna suck up all the collectibles that everyone is cancelling now. :D
