I probably said this already, but the comedic aspects in this one felt a little out of character but I did enjoy the hell out of the Fiat chase scene.

Good, interested in your review, although I believe it will fall along the lines of everyones.
I absolutely loved it and thought it was fantastic in every way.

Seriously. It totally blew DOD away and is probably my favorite M:I movie. It felt much more like the original than the latter two entries and I cannot wait for the next one now. It would have been a damn shame to have missed this on the big screen, glad I saw it!

Yikes. Finally going to see MI-DR late this week (after way too many teen obligations....) and had no idea this was a bit of a DoD level BO disappointment and has been outgrossed by SoT? (Domestically only of course)

60yo Tom can at least relish the fact that he's still allowed to get the girl whereas 80 yo HF can only escort and banter platonically with the girl, unless its a chaste moment with Helen Mirren or Karen Allen.

Thank you for being the only other sensible person in this thread. I loved it as well :)

Just rewatched the original movie for the first time in ages, and there are so many things I had completely forgotten about. Like the fact Jean Reno and Emilio Estevez were in it, or the ridiculous makeup disguises they put Cruise in that shouldn't have fooled anybody. Or the fact he just looks super obnoxious in every scene. Lol

I did really like how often they played the TV theme though. It's such a kickass theme that it's a shame we only hear it now during the opening and closing credits.

2nd film I agree but I wasn't aware of myself thinking he was obnoxious when I watched the first movie a few weeks back :lol

The music, cinematography and editing were just fantastic. Cool characters on both sides, high stakes, lots of fun action and even humor. The audience was really into it, just a thoroughly entertaining film.

Yes, I was surprised at how comedic the car chase was, but I was laughing along with everyone else. I wasn't even aware that the blond chick was Mantis from GOTG until after the movie, damn she was awesome.

The knife fight was cool though I couldn't help but chuckle at Ethan trying to reach her as basically a highlight reel of every run Tom's ever done over his entire career, lol.

Tom's running was particularly on overdrive in this movie.

I liked the movie better as it was happening then when I thought about it later. I mean, most set pieces just happened but with little action -- the airport kept building but then just ended with that crazy shot of Tom running on the roof... the club, nothing really happened (and Pom just left her sword/cane behind which I thought was weird)... and the train sequence did everything you could do on a train, but nothing really stood out as a 'topper'.

Then there was the stunt that we've all seen for over a year in ads. The Big Stunt. And it takes Tom 10 minutes of screen time to get to the bit we all know is coming. That all could have been cut down A LOT. And of course, the Big Stunt culminates in one of the franchises most cheesy, ridiculous "rescues" of all time. Yes, you're right, this movie is really funny at times.

I thought the big stunt would be lackluster after watching endless promos on it but in the context of the film, even though we all knew it was coming 10 minutes before it happened like you said, I still thought it all worked. The editing, tension, and yes even humor ("There's ledges sticking out all over the place, I can't just jump off this!" etc.) made it much more exciting than I thought I'd been lead to believe.

Actually I even thought that knowing the stunt was coming well in advance made a lot of the build up even funnier (like the little clip of him casually hopping onto the roof of the slow moving train during the initial discussion of their "plan," lol.)

Well the fun in the airport sequence was all in the interplay between Cruise and Atwell, and in trying to outwit the US agents chasing them. Don't think we needed any more than that. And the whole thing with the train cars crashing down one by one felt pretty clever and new.

I still think the AI villain comes across a bit silly (and is not really worth spending a whole second part on), but that's my only major issue with with the movie.
