The problem with the tall waist is the ball joint in the lower torso is too tall. Instead of just being a ball it's a ball on top of a short peg. All you have to do to modify it is cut that ball and peg out and re glue just the ball to where the peg was.
That lowers the abdomen just enough for it to be accurate and correct..... it's actually a real simple process here's the results.

The MAFEX R2-D2's blues are too light and the C-3PO doesn't have a perfect likeness. They're good figures, but not great. If you take the time to weather the Bandai model kits, they'll look much better than the MAFEX figures when completed.
 
Vader still isn't perfect, things are better placed on the body, but, the helmet still looks a bit on the small side. Rey looks ok and there are some good accessories, I was a bit surprised by the lack of cloth goods on her. Will this now prompt Figuarts to do one I wonder.......
