Wanted to share a couple of WIP photos.

Here is the before, store bought grey hulk figure. The whole reason for this repaint is the fact that I L-O-V-E the Hulk, but pretty much H-A-T-E all of the hulk figures. It seems like they always screw up the head/face. I like this grey Hulk figure the best, but wanted him to be green.

And the WIP photos. All I've done is painted a base cote of dark green (Tamiya J.N. Green to be exact). I painted around the hair, eyes and pants for now. Probably will leave the eyes as is, and paint the pants purple. Undecided whether I'll do anything with the hair.

So, next I should paint black in all of the low areas, and wipe with a wet paper towel to leave behind the black details? The green is already pretty dark, but I want to play with the black. I did practice with another junk figure.

Then dry brush with a lighter green?

I was watching "Making Monsters" the other night and he referred to this technique of painting on then wiping off as a "rub out." He uses dye but basically its the same practice.

Got it done last night, will spray it again today and then do the lighter green dry brushing. I ended up doing some dry brushing with the black, to get a dirtier, messier Hulk.

I also had a little bit of green paint come off in a couple of places (very minor). I let the green dry for several hours, and sprayed with the sealer. Maybe I was rubbing too hard with the damp towel? I tried going easier with it when I saw a little paint coming off. Seemed to help.

Also I have a bit of paint coming off on one of the shoulder joints from the ball in the shoulder rubbing against the side of the body when you rotate the arm. I sanded the crap out of the joints, trying to make sure that there was ample room between them, but still not enough, I guess.

Will post a couple of photos before continuing with the light green. I actually like the way he looks quite a bit right now, but the base green is just a bit too dark to leave as is.

For your dry brushing, just take the paint a step or two lighter then your base color. If you go too bright it will look out of place. The dry brush shouldn't be noticeable, it should give the high spots a slight pop.

you will always get a friction prob with ball joints/paint flaking, i know i do

Ok stage two, after adding the black. Had to do some touchups, thinking about going in to do a couple of more before I seal and then attempt the subtle, slightly lighter green:

Thank you! Not finished quite yet. I keep going back and finding areas that I'm not happy with, covering them with a little green and dry brushing a little black over them.

Is it typical to have paint rub off so easily? I'm just surprised that it's so easy to come off.

I'm just about ready to do the final, lighter green coat. Hopefully tonight. Will definitely post photos again when I'm finished.

Ok final paint I think, unless I decide to go purple on the pants. I hit it with more than just a teensy bit of dry brushing, because I felt that the dark green undercoat was just too dark. I did try to really hit the veins sticking up but pretty much drybrushed everything with a lighter green to some extent to lighten the overall figure (may be hard to tell here though). I also went back after the green and drybrushed some black on the fingernails and toenails.

Comments, suggestions? Overall I'm very happy with it for my first paint job. Thank you to everyone for the help!

And I figured I would end with this one:

Ok revisited my paint job. Added a layer of light green on top because even though I liked the look of the dark Hulk, it just didn't seem right. This definitely brought out the details in his veins, etc.
