Just saw an awesome idea in the comments section on Sideshow's site...

Fixed your post. :D This idea is reinforced by the MANY online retailers who take Hot Toys, Dragon, DiD, Sideshow, etc., figures, break them up and sell off the bits for double and sometimes triple the costs of the individual figures. Some of the guns go for $20 alone while the complete TrueTypes only just typically fetch $15-$30. :lol So yeah, I would not be surprised if a package like that ran as high as $80.

As a matter of fact, the Play House PMC kits are going for $70 (and there's no licensing fees to hike up the price there).

Haha too many things going on at once, forgot to finish. But yeah, $30 is a dream. Would love it, cause I am a miser with my money!

There's always the Hasbro Cobra Trooper for $15. :p You can get 6 for the price of one of Sideshow's Cobra Troopers and have enough cash left for dinner. :lol

the catch is that none of the gear or clothing sideshow makes is usually or the anywhere the quality of the hottoys gear that sells loose...

a better comparison would be something like the Barrack Sgt U.S. Army Combat Uniform (Series 1) set...

https://www.gijoeelite.com/f_itemPart.asp?strPart=GIBS-013

or the British Desert DPM Uniform Set

https://www.gijoeelite.com/f_itemPart.asp?strPart=GIBS-014

both of those are around $25 each...

or the Toy soldier WWII 101st Abn. M42 Uniform Set at $21.99
https://www.gijoeelite.com/f_itemPart.asp?strPart=GITS-550506

or something like Triad's clothing sets that generally sell for a around $20-40

https://www.triadestore.com/triad-style-male-clothing-c-408_418.html?page=1&sort=3a

most of the stuff i mentioned is at least equal and usually superior to the quality of the clothing and gear in an average sideshow set...

so i see no reason why a cobra trooper set should cost over $50

:lol The web gear, rifle, pistol and mags, etc., alone would sell for more than $50. Then throw in the BDUs, belt, helmet and balaclava and you can easily add another $20 onto it. And don't forget about the licensing fees. :huh

licensing fees per item sold tend to be far less than people here seem to think...

and as for the other stuff...

things like helmets and rifles cost FAR less to produce than cloth goods do...

several of the sets i listed already include things like hats (which tend to cost more to produce than helmets) and Balaclavas and belts...

if you want examples that include more stuff at an under $30 price tag then look at these ones by Cotswold... their quality control tends to be far better than sideshow's as well (especially for cloth goods) and these include weapons, boots , web gear, etc...

Here are some more appropriate comparison links, note the prices ;):

Remember that the loose Cobra pack would come with the following:

SSC10672.jpg

https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=SSC10672&mode=retail&picture=aux1

# Helmet
# Balaclava
# Shirt with COBRA insignias
# Pants
# Boots
# Detailed belt
# Smersh rig with buttpack
# AK 74 mag pouches (x4)
# Canteens (x2)
# Canteen pouches (x2)
# AK 74 with folding stock
# AK 74 magazines (x8)
# AK 74 bayonet
# AK 74 bayonet sheath
# Gun sight
# Grenade launcher
# Grendades (x3)
# Kneepads
# Handgun
# Handgun magazines (x2)
# Handgun Leg holster
# 12-inch display base with G.I. Joe logo

That's a long grocery list. I can easily see how, with everything above, the kit could easily run upward and around $70-$80. Toy around and find comparable items (no budget shopping), and fill your cart. Don't forget things like extra mags, grenades, etc. At the end check your shopping cart and see how much you're up to. I bet it's more than $70.

EDIT: Shoot, after looking at that list, it's like we're getting the pro, a great headsculpt and 2 extra sets of hands for a measly $20! :lol

fair enough but the $30 suggestions we were discussing were more like these:

I'd love a simple uniform set for both Cobra Troops and Joe Green Shirts!
For the Cobra Trooper all we need is: BDU shirt and pants, pair of boots, helmet, mask, Y harness, and Cobra M3A1 Grease Gun (although I wouldn't mind a different more modern weapon).
And for the Green Shirt, we need: BDU shirt and pants, boots, helmet, an H harness and that Laser Rifle all the Joes carried in the cartoon.
It'd be a money maker if they can deliver these for $30.

I was just basing that number off of the fact that usual uniform sets can run $20 just for BDU's. Add knee pads and helmets and balaclavas and it seemed that $30 would be more likely...

and

Maybe we could get the BDU and some basic gear for $30.

maybe you are having a different discussion than we are...

all those who mentioned the $30 price point have been talking about a basic uniform set for which a $30 is a perfectly reasonable price..

Not everyone.

Several companies (like veryhot, saturday toys, ACE) sell full uniform sets with weapons, helmets, boots and all that for around $60 - $70.

And in your own reply to Prog, you included the weapons and pretty much everything else but the figure and box...

So SSC is charging $60 just for the figure and a box?

yep.......

Seemed like a dual discussion to me. But for just the uniform alone, $30 isn't a bad guess. With the kneepads, helmet etc, at today's prices, and the little licensing issue, I'd say $40. But you'd spend too much trying to kit him out right, so seems like a waste anyway. If given the option, I'd drop the extra $40-$50 for the complete kit at $70-$80. They're regular troops anyway so it makes sense that they'd be issued the same gear. The extra $19 for the complete figure can be spent on just about any nude figure available from the 1:6 shops.

I guess our main disagreement is over how much gear a carded set should include...

personally i think it really only would need the uniform , y harness, belt boots, Helmet, rifle, Balaclava and maybe a couple of pouches and knee pads...

$30 seems more than enough for that...

With Hasbro quality maybe.... :rotfl

actually... from hasbro it would be $10 and still have better made cloth goods than half the "high end" companies out there

Funny that. ATM, I'm picking up the new Hasbro 12" Joes and converting their cheap-assed BDUs (fake pockets, untied threads, horrible color matching/patterns and poor tailoring) and horribly sculpted plastic gear with the likes of Dragon, BBi, HotToys, Sideshow, etc. I can tell you, both the "high end" BDUs and gear are VAST improvements over Hasbro's with the exception of the Panama combat boots. Those are a fairly nice sculpt. Overall though, for $15, you get more than your money's worth.
