Political post. Blah Blah Blah.

Not a Trump supporter but he never made fun of a handicapped reporter. That simply never happened. I know people desperately need to believe it in their hearts but it's just not true.

Drudging through 10 year old tweets and then outraging over what you find is a leftist tactic, not the right. If you think "Trump supporters" are behind Gunn's firing, then that simply means they've taken a page out of Saul Alinski's book and started using the left's tactic against them.

Isn't all of this downright exhausting???

This is not a liberal or conservative thing both should never accept the things he was discussing.

Yeah as a non-American I do not think this should even be viewed as a political thing.

It is sad that what he did a decade ago came back to bite him but that is the nature of the unforgetting internet. Those statements are tough to defend for Disney which makes a living making shows and movies for kids.

Lesson: Don't have diarrhea of the mouth on the internet. It's sad that I want to follow Mark Hamill, James Gunn, Scott Derrickson and many other creative celebrities on social networking sites just to see their thoughts on movies, behind the scenes stuff, etc.. Yet, I've had to unfollow every single one of them because it's all political commentary like they have some right to "educate" people and sound off on their political rivals. Just look at their Twitter feeds. My goodness.

No?

I’d say “I don’t give a flying **** about politics,” but I do. That being said, what bothers me the most is hypocrisy and I want to know where the **** this outrage is when Roy Moore molests a 14-year old? I see a lot of hooting and hollering because Disney fired Gunn, but I don’t see anyone bringing up Mike Cernovich’s (the dude who brought all this to light) tweets defending guys like that? Maybe people wouldn’t feel the need to politicize everything if we didn’t have two different sets of standards for those on the left and those who represent “the party of family values.”

Again, my problem with this is that it’s a politically fueled hit piece by a bunch of apologists who excuse the atrocious things Trump says about women and defend child molesters like Roy Moore. These guys want to lecture us about the ridiculous jokes a filmmaker made 10 years ago, then, they need to hold the people on both sides of the aisle to the same standards. Whatever you want to say about Gunn, he owned what he said and he took the hit and apologized.

Your acting like Gunn is a standup guy for apologizing. What else could he say but try to salvage what face he could. What’s worse..he may have done more than just joke about some of this stuff. They have a blog of him thanking a friend for sending him a child pornography video. The same friend who was brought up on charges for having these type of videos and materials. Regardless if your on the right or left you got to call balls and strikes. Regardless how it came to light this stuff is pretty bad. Not sure how you can even start to defend.

At any point in time, ask yourself, has our president done the same? Did he apologize for making fun of a reporter with cerebral palsy? Did he apologize for the “whole grab them by the *****” thing and how he admitted to using his power to leverage women into having sex with him? I won’t dispute whether or not what Gunn said was wrong or whether it warranted this response, but what I will continue to dispute is the unwavering hypocrisy of the right and how they continue to cheer and virtue signal at every pinko commie Hollywood liberal who falls to Me, Too, allthewhile, rubbing shoulders and hobknobing with child ****ers and sexual assaulters.

Neither were problems ultimately because whatever you want to think of them as people based on what they said, it has absolutely nothing to do with thier ability to do thier job. Hate Gunn, hate Trump. I dont care. But neither deserves to be fired solely on the basis of people not liking them. And are both entitled to some base level human decency.

So one justifies the other is what you are saying? Blame Disney for firing him.

It's funny watching liberals showing outrage against conservatives on this one. I'm conservative and while I think Gunn's 10 year old tweets do make him a total loser (or at least he was back then) I definitely don't think he should have been fired for something offensive he said or did that wasn't an actual crime. Nor do I think that Mel Gibson should have been blacklisted for a decade after his drunkenly belligerent rant but there you go.

Now do I feel "sorry" for Gunn that he got fired? Not particularly. If liberals want to live by the sword (firing/silencing anyone/anything they find offensive) then they should be prepared to die by the sword as well. I still think that from here on out people should focus on crimes committed in the here and now, not mere "offenses" committed in the past.

I agree. This is a page right out of the liberal handbook.

Um good luck with that lol

I mean what do you think being famous is all about if not massive social exposure!

If anything it’s in their contracts to be fully engaged in social media to promote their work!

Their agencies highly encourage that practice!

So how about this.

Instead of ignoring social media (which they can’t anyways) how about NOT being a filthy animal of a human being and NOT vomiting out your disgusting illegal child sex urges and fantasies to millions of people, that simple.

Millions of talent from all walks of life like actors, directors, writers, producers, cinematographers, stunt people, effects, musicians, athletes, models, journalists, corporate staff ALL are engaged in a successful professional lifestyle on their social media platform without the need to call it quits. I feel like this grossly mischaracterizes the context of what he said. The things he posted were utterly perverse, grotesque, reprehensible, and, more often than not, completely unfunny, but consider the source. James Gunn is the dude who made Tromeo and Juliet, he came up under Lloyd Kaufman and that whole crew and, to be completely honest, those guys have a completely ****ed sense of humor. I guess that’s what I’m most curious about: where do we draw the line and under what circumstances is conducting yourself in this manner accepted vs condemned? I watched The Toxic Avenger because I saw guys in here consistently rave about it and I was unsettled by a particular scene in which a disabled kid’s head explodes under a yuppie’s car tire. It’s played to ridiculous effect and the end result is, by and large, judges to be darkly comedic.

The point I’m trying to make is that somebody had to think of that. Somebody had to think that was funny and say “we should do that,” and they did and Troma’s synonymous with boundary pushing fare like that, so, it comes as a bit of a surprise to me to see a filmmaker who’s lauded for his ability to transfer depraved **** from his mind to the screen is then disavowed when said depraved, twisted **** rears it’s head on social media. I’m not looking for an argument on this one, I mostly just actually want to hear your thoughts on it.

Again, I understand Disney’s logic. They’re a business. They’re protecting their interests. I’m not even arguing that what Gunn said was disgusting. What I have a problem with is that we live in a culture where we’re not treating these offenses equivocally. We can’t just sit back and signal our moral outrage at Gunn for his ugly tweets while simultaneously excusing the myriad of ugly tweets that have been uttered by our President.

I didnt find his tweets funny, but who hasnt said something inappropriate? Its from almost a decade ago. I dont know, it just seems like sabotage against someone successful. Its our loss as mcu fans, gotg 1 and 2 have been the best back to back films in mcu.

But at the same time dont act like he is getting a free pass either. The entire media and Hollywood are against him to such an extreme and vitriolic degree that the poor man cant even drink a diet coke without half the country rounding up a violent mob and calling for his head on a spike, and the death of everyone that supports him. It makes me mad just thinking about it.

I can't stand the far left or the far right.... what happen to all the sensible people in the world, you know moderates.... seems like the world is going crazy...

I feel for the guy. People change and mature, especially over a decade. Mega corporations are too quick to throw people to the kerb nowadays. And if those tweets have always been out there, why punish him now?

If Cavill is next to go I'm going thermonuclear.

I like to think the "sensible center" is still the majority, but being boring they don't get any attention.

These tweets seem totally indefensible on the surface... but this guy got his start working in troma movies. In fact, when Disney first hired him, I was very surprised and admired the fact that they were willing to take a risk with somebody who had been involved with a company that was so ridiculously over-the-top in terms of being lewd and offensive. It was the equivalent of hiring John Waters to direct one of their movies. I'm a bit baffled as to why they would now decide that the kind of provocative, over-the-top, insane humor of the troma world that helped to get him the job in the first place his a justifiable reason to fire the guy. But then I realize that the only difference is that we live in a Time right now where someone's tweets are enough to ruin a career. And just one tweet can do it as happened with Roseanne. Six seven years ago this would not have been the case. And clearly wasn't since, again, Disney hired the guy knowing good and well who he was and what he had done. I knew it, so if they didn't then they were totally derelict in their duties. Even super was a pretty over-the-top and edgy movie. Though nothing compared to some of the troma stuff of course.

That's not Trump mocking a reporter's disability, that's simply CNN and the rest of the liberal media fabricating context that wasn't there. Trump does those same hand motions anytime he mocks someone (including Republican opponents like Ted Cruz):

Is it juvenile? Yes. Is it unfortunate that that one reporter turned out to have a real disability? Also yes. But it's also the 10 millionth time the media twisted the truth against Trump in order to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

He is absolutely getting a free pass. For all the vitriol, he has an army of blindly loyal acolytes who refuse to even acknowledge the man’s faults and who will defend him to the last breath when he says or does reprehensible things. I don’t necessarily agree that people saying untoward things should be a fireable offense, but, if that’s the world we’re living in, we might as well hold everyone to the same set of standards, should we not?
