Is Snake Oil type of promotion common here?

I mean not specifying any thread or anyone. But am wondering if it is a common practice to act as a genuine buyer to promote certain products here?

Coz usually the items arent cheap compared to stuffs in the market but they buy em like grocery shopping and always encourage others to purchase them.

i know some are just filthy rich or dont mind spending more on stuffs they like or really felt some items are well worth it but usually such posts are followed up by few users claiming the same positive views in short period of time.

just curious. not like i can afford those stuffs anyways .
