It is true... Sideshow just officially announced it:

July 18, 2011 Sideshow Collectibles and Hot Toys are proud to announce a unique collaboration, a union of talent and artistic vision aimed at bringing the very best products to life in 1:6 Scale. Sideshow Collectibles and Hot Toys have worked together successfully for many years, supporting one another with shared licensing opportunities, global distribution support, customer service, and of course, creative collaborations. To further the unique relationship the two companies have, the two have come together in a way that best utilizes the strengths of each, redefining the boundaries and potential of their joint efforts.

“This is an exciting evolution of the natural relationship between Sideshow and Hot Toys, and an exciting development for collectors,” explains Greg Anzalone, CEO & President of Sideshow Collectibles. “For the first time ever, our two companies will be working simultaneously on complementary products for key properties, including Star Wars, Indiana Jones, DC, Marvel, and others. It’s a refreshing way for us to look at the collectibles business, bridging the creative powers of artists around the globe, so that
we can bring to life many exciting new products.”

“This is a very exciting collaboration between our long-term partner, Sideshow, and us. As a Star Wars super-fan, it is my dream to produce the 1:6th scale collectible figures of the Star Wars saga. We would like to express our gratitude to the Sideshow team, especially Greg, Tom and Brant to give us this valuable opportunity to bring the Star Wars property to the 1/6th scale world. We hope that this collaboration will bring about a new landscape in the collectible industry for truly unveiling our realistic likeness and detailed craftsmanship, and we are looking forward to bringing about more exciting products through this collaboration to our collectors in the near future,” said Howard Chan, Founder CEO of Hot Toys Limited.

When HT announced the Indiana Jones license they issued the following message including a SW teaser:

Yeah but there had been such a lull that it had completely dropped from my radar. But DX Luke confirmed! Couldn't be more stoked to see what they came up with.

Wow, what the-?

I dunno what to think. Why Besipin Luke for HT first DX? Why something with such crazy license fees like Star Wars? I'm excited, but oh man this is going to be crazy expensive. :(

So they dont have the license , they are being allowed by SS to make figures SS allows them to.

So whos ready for SW 1/6 figures to hit new high in price.

I am going to guess $350

I have to admit I really doubted this would happen! But wow!

The downside will be that the prices will shoot up. Geez! If I wasn't picky before about what I buy, I'll barely ever get any figures now! AND they'll always be sold out! Say goodbye to when you could find a good bargain on the SW figures a few months after release!

The press release says SW is just the first step in a new collaborative strategy spanning their film and comic licenses...

Just me musing, but I wonder if HT will in the next few years take on the brunt of 1:6 poseable design and production so SS can focus on PFs, statues and other replicas... just a thought.

The prices will shoot up, but at least the quality will finally justify the price. :lol

I'm with you. While I completely understand that current high-end 1:6 prices are pinching a lot of people, I'm always more concerned with quality and attention to detail on the items themselves than price.

Come on Mods, lock this one up since we have an actual announcement thread now!!

I'm pretty sure this has been SS's plan for a while now.
