The DS Gunner makes no sense. Everybody needs to buy one to make sure Hot Toys keeps going deep on Star Wars.

This is true, but I just can't. I'll buy one if I can get it for $160 on ebay.

The only sense the Gunner makes is the reuse from Jyn Erso disguise.

Same here. I haven't pulled the trigger on this one yet. But if Sideshow does a Labor Day Sale with a $30 coupon I might be inclined to do so.

For me, the problem with him is that the helmet is a bit too simplistic (versus say the TIE) but there's also no human face (versus say the DST) and the Gunner is never seen near any hero or villain. He's seen in front of a wall of buttons and firing a big cannon. Makes him a bit harder to display.

Every other trooper gets a bit more cool factor (even the seated ATAT driver... is driving a freakin ATAT) or more action - DSTs escort Leia, Bikers battle Han and Luke, Snowies kick *ss with Vader etc.

That's the thing that's holding me back - and the funky ANH Vader type gloves.

It is great owning that lineup of figures. These are the toys I dreamed of having as a kid.

I wonder how many years HT will be doing this. Eventually they will run out of Skywalker family variants. Will they eventually do jabba and his goons? Cantina scum? Keep re-making the hero characters? Only time will tell.

I don't know, I kinda dig the helmet. But you have a point about the gloves. The obscurity of these guys could be viewed as a negative I suppose, but with Tarkin on the way any DS crew members will make for a great display.

To me, having Tarkin now makes me want the DS Trooper even more... just to have him at that console behind Vader and Tarkin.

Completely agree. If it was $100 or $140, well then maybe. It doesn't help that I also collect marvel and some DC, so I can't afford characters that really didn't do anything in the films.

Sorry, but the TIE and AT-AT driver helmets are just stormtrooper derivatives, as is the Sandtrooper obviously. This one is simplistic but actually unique.

I get it if you don't have Stormtroopers. But if you do, the TIE and AT-AT Driver take a serious backseat to figures like the Snowtrooper and scout. Not elevating the DS Gunner to that level, mind you.

What I mean is that ATAT drivers are there alongside Veers (Vader's trusted dude,) they got Vader on the holo-skype, blasting snowspeeders and pot-shotting pathetic running-away rebels.... TIE pilots get a one-on-one scene with Vader, and interact directly with him in battle... with Luke.

The gunners do control the DS gun, but it's from the Saturday Night Live video-switching booth circa 1979.

What I mean is that ol' egghead just doesn't seem to be "in the action" or "mixing it up with the stars" as much as all the other Imperial troops.

That said... I did notice they did do the emblem on the front of the helmet (some protos didn't have it) and the guy in that vid review showed the helmet up close in macro and it looked preeeetty damn sweet.

The hands still look very HT ANH Vader, but I have some perfect hands for this guy. Hmmm...
