ONLY the Marvel comics and the filecards are canon... and where they contradict each other the comics always overrule.

the cobra la figures were cool but they are not canon.

the cartoon was not canon

and this crappy movie is not canon either.

:rock :rock :rock

I use this from time to time too. Lotsa great info and pictures. Don't get much outta the priceguide though cause those things are all heresay anyhow.

It's a really cool book and evokes a great deal of nostalgia. Most of my Joes are boxed up and whatnot so it's like having the entire collection at my fingertips.

I will say this for Sunbow though, the opening to Joe movie is pretty sweet. Yeah, it's a bit kiddie but it really reminds me of Joes as a kid. Love the CG punching out the video camera!

Yup, the toon make GIJoe fun, which I think is lost when people get older. Kinda like how people rag on the Star Wars prequels. They need to watch it through the eyes of a 10 year old.

:banghead:banghead:banghead:mad: I disagree and file cards and cartoon are canon, COMICS ARE OUT as far as I'm concerned with GI JOE! :rock

I grew up on Marvel Comics.... yes!!!! the cartoon is the ruling of how things roll for me on GI JOE, everything else is false and oh yeah the file cards.

I haven't read any Joe comics since I was in the 4th or 5th grade (circa 1983). Did Marvel ever consolidate story lines into single volumes?

Don't discount the comics Skiman, there are a lot of cool stories to be found inside the pages of some of those books. The Snake Eyes origin alone is awesome.

sorry dude... Larry Hama created the characters, wrote the file cards, and wrote the comic books... Those are the ONLY real version of the story.

the stupid cartoons are not canonical.

I'm getting a copy of this book to review within the next week or so and will also be doing a Q&A for a collecting site.

I know it might be difficult without having seen or read the book, but if you guys have any questions for Pablo (the author) fire away and I'll see what I can do about squeezing them in.

I'd be curious to know what, if anything, he considers to be official Joe canon.

Me too! I assume that might become evident upon receiving the book. But if not I will definitely ask.

I got my copy from Del Rey this week. Gonna do a write up for CTR over the weekend, but here are some highlights for you guys:

1) It is 100% RAH focused

2) All of the content is based on the original file cards, the Hama Marvel comics, the toon, and some of the Devil's Due stuff (mostly art more than story canon when it comes to DDP).

3) The artwork throughout is a mixture of old-school file cards, Marvel comics art, and Devil's Due stuff. (The inclusion of DDP imagery will no doubt bug some people, but it's to be expected. Still, there is enough original card, Marvel, and toon stuff in here to easily counter-balance any DDP stuff). Oh... and there is not a single image of Cobra Commander in the ghey trenchcoat or in Crimson. :rock

4) There is absolutely NOTHING about the movie in here (thank God), and there is a small preview section at the end for the new IDW comics series. Nothing on RESOLUTE, either... which is odd because this is a Hasbro-licensed book. My guess is they nixed RESOLUTE content as it's not true RAH "canon".

5) Pablo is most definitely "one of us" and this is absolutely a must-own for longtime JOE RAH fans. :lecture
