Nemo, what would happen if you walked into your local department store, went up to the counter and before you could say anything, the person said "Don't ask me any stupid questions, I'm busy and don't have the time"

I don't think there is a sensitivity issue here at all. The person has not provided a whole lot of details to make someone feel comfortable buying from them, despite his attempts with abundant use of exclamation marks and lowercase letters. He has 0 feedback and is selling a lot of stuff that he would certainly expect to get a lot of money for.

Ebay is a very casual place to sell things, but there is a matter of courtesy that people on the internet seem to forget. Ask any professional seller on ebay and they would point out countless things that this person is doing wrong as a seller.

I don't know if it is a legit auction or not, don't really care, that's not my issue. If he can't be bothered to forego all the "stupid" questions by providing a meaningful auction, he doesn't deserve anyone's business.

I'm shortly going to stop defending this auction because it takes time to do so, and I'm not affiliated so this is mostly a waste of my time but just for the record that I'm not off my rocker, I will respond now with how I percieved this-

<blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>Ask any professional seller on ebay and they would point out countless things that this person is doing wrong as a seller.<hr></blockquote>

The nature of this guy's sales appear to me to be a one-time thing. It looks a bit curious, but my initial thought is that this guy either has decided on the spur of the moment he doesn't want his starwars and lord of the rings collections anymore. I had another idea just at the moment, but it's disconnected for the most part from this- maybe these were ripped off someone else and the guy is pawning them on ebay.
That could make sense but that's not the issue.

When I read the lot auction listing through the first time I think I probably caught the stupid questions remark but I didn't think of it the way obviously most everyone else posting in this thread had- my perception was not like some store clerk telling me "dont' bother asking me stupid questions" which REALLY would infuriate me (and now I see most of your points of view) but the way I read it was "please dont' ask questions that are a waste of both our time".

I don't usually think of stupid questions to ask, but I bet there are a thousand out there like "are you near los angeles?" or "what kind of truck do I need to pick those up?" or "can I get them all gift wrapped?"
Yes stupid questions exist. I don't think the point of refering to "stupid" questions as any question, but anyone who doesn't read the whole listing, which is actually conveniently short, unlike some listings for sideshow merchandice that go on and on and on.

So I guess what this boils down to is a person who was a little unprepared for his first attempt at selling, and using what I would consider "non-user-friendly" language. That's it... I've gotten used to seeing the "unoffensive" angle in communications.. I guess so that I can avoid getting offended.

Rant away fellows and fellinas.

if the guy replies, I'll post my message and his response in this thread.

i don't see the issue with this auction at all...

he clearly states his demands, and that's it... he doesn't want you asking dumb ass questions... he obviously laid out his demands...

how can a pickup be a scam...? just go with some "protection"...

you guys are such tools at times... especially JS... why you have to be a smart ass and email him about shipping, when you damn well know you have no interest in his goods...

grow up... :thwak

Been a while there Diesel, but you can f___ o___ there fella.

Fly Over?
Fry Orangutans?
Flip Oranges?
Flatulate Offusely?

:dunno

This auction has ALL the earmarks of being a scam, so if you feel
so confident in it, just bid away and go pick up your merchandise.
I'd love to hear the outcome.

And Dax - if you win, be careful my friend. If you go there,
I'd have several friends accompany you, and take whatever
measures are necessary for protection. Play it safe on this.

Looking at this auction late last night the first thing I thought was why did someone steal Smaugs pic of Orthanc. The pic may not be but it sure looks like the one he had when he sold his Orthanc. However, since its a pick up auction I would say its got a decent chance of being legit. I wouldn't pay till I came to get and checked each item and like JS said I would actually bring a couple people along just to cover me ass.

This auction may or may not be a scam, but a way to be 100% safe about it would be to:

1. Bring several people with you for security (say they're helping you load the boxes).

2. Suggest that you make the exchange in a safe place that is out in public.

3. Bring a cashier's check and avoid cash.

Well it looks like Dax picked these up. If it all works out it's a good deal as well, at least $1500 under current market value.

BTW I know we have mentioned this before, but love when we get into a discussion about something or someone they miraculously get sent a link to the conversation. What good is trying to make people aware of a POSSIBLE auction to be wary of of some little mole runs off and warns the POSSIBLE scammer that there is this place of people that look out for this type of stuff. Don't give any BS about having the right to defend themselvs either. This isn't a court of law, the're not going to get the death penalty, we're just a group of collectors trying to look out for eachother.

I'm not sure if someone did inform the seller of this forum (and it looks like his coming here and posting has convinced another one of our members of a reason to bid), however I am pretty much certain that.. people who collect and sell these items would know of this forum and would at least be in lurk mode to begin with.
